About the property

Cottage in Llanfrothen, Nr. Porthmadog, Snowdonia National Park, Wales - Peaceful Location Just 15 Minutes Drive To The Beach And With Walks Directly From The Cottage

Sitting within Snowdonia National Park with Snowdon visible from the cottage, 2 Tanlan was constructed in the late 1800s out of local stone as a Welsh quarry workers cottage, with thick stone walls, beamed ceilings and log burner in the lounge, the cottage has a warm cosy feeling. The cottage is located just outside the small hamlet of Llanfrothen, approximately 4 miles from Porthmadog, 4 miles from Beddgelert, in the Snowdonia National Park and 6.5 miles from Harlech. Tanlan provides an excellent base for exploring both the mountain and coastal attractions of North Wales, and is an ideal base for walking, cycling, golf, rock-climbing and mountain biking as well as exploring the many beautiful beaches. There are many forest walks to explore within a couple of miles of the cottage.

About Claire Degg

We purchased the cottage in December 2012. We have been enjoying our holidays in the area for many years and more recently have enjoyed holidays with our two small children, who love the beaches. We were keen to find a cottage which suited our needs as a family and Tanlan does that for us, and hope that it works for you to. We enjoy walking as well as exploring the beaches, forests and steam trains. We have two young children and having stayed in several holiday cottages over the past few years which were ill equipped for babies and young children, we felt it important to ensure that our holiday cottage was suitable for little people.

Claire Degg purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Claire Degg chose Llanfrothen

We chose the area because of the beautiful scenery of hills and mountains as well as the spectacular coastline. As the cottage sits within the Snowdonia national park, it is ideally located for walking as well as the beaches.

The beaches in the area take some beating, particularly Llandanwg, Harlech beach, Black Rock Sands and whistling sands on the Llyn Peninsula.

The area is quiet but not remote, and is easily accessible to the beaches, forest walks, steam railway and local villages and towns of Porthmadog, Harlech and Beddgelert.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is conveniently located in Snowdonia, with Snowdon visible from the front of the cottage. There is a lovely pub just 700 yards away which serves great food

We have ensured that the cottage is suitable for babies and young children. We have provided stair gates, travel cot, high chair, plastic plates and bowls. In addition, we have provided a selection of children's books, toys and DVDs.

We enjoy sitting on the bench outside the front of the cottage, looking at the ever changing landscape of the hills.

"Have had one of the most relaxing holidays in a long time - the signal strength on our phones being poor in places has been a great benefit as we've completely switched off from work which rarely happens. Have had some lovely runs around the area as I like a little running sometimes and where better to do it. Portmeirion is a 'must see', the local pub up the road serves fab food and drinks and round Beddgelert breath taking! Will defo visit again. The house is delightful and the facilities are great - we have a young child and found everything we need. Will be recommending. Thank you so much". Emma, Mathieu and Jack.

"A great place to be, thanks for the leaflets with the walks, it was great to find our way up in the mountains and on coastal paths. Some visits to the Brondanw Arms made life a perfect experience. In short, we had a great time in a fine house." Hans Van Drogen Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

"This lovely comfortable warm, clean cottage was the ideal base for our week of climbing and cycling (bike shed much appreciated). So lucky with the weather and what wow views enjoyed from the top of Snowdon." Jackie and Rhys. Cardigan. West Wales.

"We have really enjoyed our stay in this cosy, comfy and clean cottage. The Deggs have thought of everything you could need. We recommend Festiniog highland railway, slate mike at Llechwood (where you can also ride a zip wire if you dare), Swallow Falls and Caenarfon Castle." Caroline , Simon and James, Orpington Kent

"A lovely little cottage, beautifully located both for the beach and the mountains. We had glorious weather and had a wonderful time" David and Thomas, Bristol.

Fabulous little hideaway...

  • 4 of 5

We've stayed at Tanlan twice now and love it. The cottage has been lovingly refurbished by the current owners and is a cosy retreat. There is the Brendan Arms pub a few hundred metres away, we drive to it as the road is narrow and winding, book in advance for weekends as it's very popular. It's a short drive to Porthmadog, the local views are stunning, beachside town at Borth-y-Gest is fabulous, also Criccieth is a a great place to visit. For daredevils there is Zip World at Blaenau Ffestiniog and 'Bounce Below'. We always take a trip on the Welsh Highland Railway. Back to the cottage - it's cute and comfortable. Lovely log burner in the lounge. The house is clean and well maintained. Thank you Claire and family for breathing life back into a beautiful little cottage. We'll be back!
