The cottage itself is a beautiful and charming 2 bedroom property that has been lovingly restored and renovated over the last three years. Whether it is the beautiful wood burning stove, the exposed fireplace, newly exposed floor tiles, the beech tops in the new kitchen or the brand new bathrooms and shower rooms you will find everything finished to the highest quality. Down to the state of the art oil central heating, teak garden furniture, flat screen TV (with Sky) or the gas BBQ. This is not a traditional holiday let, it is a home from home. That is how we wanted it to be, and that is how it has been furnished and decorated. This unique stone built property retains much of its original character. The living space and master bedroom are positioned in the wonderful views and both lead to external sitting areas and further gardens which complement the well - presented interiors, there is a good sized garden to the rear.

Home from home.

Lovely cottage in very rural setting. Cottage well equipped with log burner to keep warm.

Fantastic views from all windows across Nidderdale.

The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was the extremely steep cobbled, rutted road to access the cottage. We were informed of this prior to booking but our Golf GTI didn't like the assent. Not good for low profile vehicles.

However you could have left the car at the bottom of the hill.

We had a lovely few days walking and visiting nearby pubs for lunch.

Cottage with Amazing View

What a wonderful place to stay - home from home. Everything thing you could possibly need is right here in this wonderful cottage. We didn't have to travel far in any direction to enjoy an interesting day out. We didn't use the pubs so we can't comment on them.

The cobblestone bridleway up to the cottage was a little tricky for my car, so after 1 attempt i left it down in the camping carpark which after asking the farmer seemed quite acceptable.

Good for the soul!

I simply love this little cottage. From its idyllic peaceful setting to its calm, tranquil and cosy atmosphere - I could live here. From its quirky features (narrowest staircase in the world! Turn one tap on and none of the others work! Steepest climb up the rocky track - there will forever be a piece of the underside of my car on this track!) to its breathtaking views - it is perfect. It has everything you need, with super-comfy bed, beautiful bathroom with amazing artwork on the walls (loved all the art on the walls!) - everything within arms-reach. Smashing walks right from your doorstep. Eat at the Crown Hotel in Lofthouse and never need to eat again - huge portions of home-cooked food (best roast beef Sunday lunch!). But the best, the very best, is the summer house. Sit with a glass of something to hand, watch the busy little birds feeding; rabbits hopping in the garden; soaring birds, swooping across the dale; listen to sheep bleating, curlews calling and the distant cries of happy children in the campsite below; watch the distant farm vehicles slowly wind their way up the hill to Middlesmoor and just feel utterly, utterly blissful and relaxed. We will be back.

A gorgeous, clean property in a beautiful setting with stunning views

We enjoyed a fabulous five days away using the cottage as our base. It had everything we needed for a lovely relaxing break with stunning views and walks on our doorstep.

The house was clean and welcoming and the summer house was lovely for an afternoon cup of tea!

We stayed with our 20 month old son who loved being able to roam the cottage and especially enjoyed the fields, paths and farm life outside. The owners were very accommodating and provided a travel cot and highchair on request which was really helpful.

There is so much to explore in the local area if you enjoy being outdoors and walking. We especially enjoyed visiting Malham and Brimham rocks.

If we were to stay in Yorkshire again we would definitely return to the cottage.

Beautiful cottage, beautiful views!!

I can't rate this cottage highly enough! We stayed here for a long weekend with my parents and are already planning our next visit. We have certainly found our perfect weekend retreat after a busy week at work! Its perfect in every way. The cottage itself is very cosy and like being at home. The 360° degree views are stunning and can be seen from every window. Can't wait to go back in the summer and take advantage of sitting out in the beautiful garden. Its a 10min walk to both villages, Lofthouse and Middlesmoor. No shops near by though so need to take essentials with you. Both pubs in both villages very traditional and good food. We found the one in Middlesmoor better, just more choice on menu's. We did 2 lovely walks over the weekend and went straight from the cottage which was a bonus. Can't wait to return....I'm already missing waking up to the sound of sheep and cows!

The cottage is located above the village of Lofthouse close to the unspoilt hamlet of Stean which is home to the spectacular limestone How Stean Gorge. Nestled amidst some of the region's most picturesque countryside with Middlesmoor, Lofthouse and Scar House reservoir on the doorstep, the area is a haven for walkers, ramblers, mountain bikers and road cyclists alike. Lofthouse offers a post office/shop and there are public houses at both Middlesmoor and Lofthouse. Of particular appeal are the Yorke Arms at Ramsgill and the Sportsman's Inn at Wath, situated on the road towards Pateley Bridge where amenities are available to cater for all daily needs including shops, banks etc. Further afield there is easy access to Harrogate, Otley, Skipton, Knaresborough.

Artists and writers would find the views, the atmosphere, the people and the shear peacefulness nothing but an inspiration.

It's also amazing for staring at hills for prolonged periods of time with a glass of wine.

Travel:

East Coast Mainline nearest station is Harrogate, taxi's can be used obviously. A car is pretty much essential unless you are a cyclist or a walker and this is part of your trip as a stop over and a base to explore from.

Distances:

Pateley Bridge is 6.5 miles away, Harrogate is 22 miles away, Knaresborough is 20 miles away, Masham is 10 miles away...

Upper Nidderdale

Upper Nidderdale is characterised by its vast moorlands and sweeping views, dominated by Gouthwaite, Scar House and Angram reservoirs. It is also home to some of the finest grouse moors in the country.

The moorlands are internationally important for their birdlife and provide stunning views of the valleys and reservoirs below. The villages of Lofthouse, Middlesmoor, Ramsgill and Wath contain many buildings of historic interest as well as visitor attractions, pubs, restaurants and accommodation.

The heather moors of Upper Nidderdale are stunningly beautiful in all seasons. They are also of great wildlife importance and are home to many rare species.

Although internationally rare, Red Grouse are a common sight on the Upper Nidderdale moorlands. The moors are carefully managed for grouse shooting which involves rotational burning of the heather to maintain young heather plants on which the birds feed, and to control predators. These practices have helped to maintain the habitat for grouse and other rare birds such as Golden Plover, Merlin and Hen Harrier.

As a result of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 you can now have the freedom to explore large areas of the moorland. For the most up to date information buy the latest Ordnance Survey Explorer maps and look out for the Open Access signs and interpretation boards 'in situ'.

Lower Nidderdale

Situated on valley floor, Pateley Bridge is the principal town of Nidderdale. Shaped by its industrial past and overlooked by Scotgate Ash Quarry (that once supplied the stone used to form the steps leading to the National Gallery in London) Pateley is now a much more peaceful place where local heritage trails and a fascinating museum will help you discover how the landscape has evolved over the centuries.

The River Nidd flows through the town and onwards into the lower dale where the valley sides support large tracts of ancient semi natural broad-leaved woodland.
