Nestled in a peaceful area only a short walk from the centre of Windermere this delightful apartment sleeps two and is perfect for couples looking for a cosy Lake District cottage at any time of the year.

Robins Nest is perfectly placed to enjoy all that the popular village of Windermere has to offer. Buzzing with activity all year round you are sure to be charmed by the traditional cafes, quirky pubs and international restaurants where a leisurely, romantic meal can be enjoyed. A short fifteen minutes stroll from the cottage brings you to Bowness Bay, spend a lazy day relaxing on The Glebe with a picnic or cruising on one of the steamers, you can also enjoy a game of tennis, all with stunning scenery of Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells. For the more energetic, Gummers How or Orrest Head are popular with walkers and will reward you with magnificent views across the length of the lake, or within half a mile, participate in a round or two of golf at the Windermere Golf Club whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding fells, in all it is the ideal base to have a relaxing break or to make the most of the local fells with walking from the door.

About Elaine Hodgson

We are Elaine and Des Hodgson. We have lived in the Lake District all our lives - some 50 years and would not wish to live or work anywhere else. Des is a builder by trade and Elaine is a hairdresser. We both share a keen interest in people and are delighted to be able to offer this immaculate apartment for couples of all ages and ilks to come and use as a base whilst exploring the beautiful area in which we are lucky enough to live all year round. We would welcome any comments from our visitors as we are always striving to improve on our standards. We look after the apartment personally and always endeavour to make our guests' stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.

Why Elaine Hodgson chose England

The Lake District is a wonderful and beautiful place - the scenery would be very hard to beat. There are so many walks to complete both easy and difficult, mountains to climb and places to explore. There is something for everyone in this area - busy places for fun and laughter and quiet places for moments of solitude and reflection. We boast the longest lake in England and the steamers are a marvellous way to travel up and down taking in all the sights. We have easy access to the motorway and for rail travellers our own train station. Quirky shops and gorgeous food shops are all to be found here. We also have the most beautiful sun sets and the landscape is green and lush with an abundance of flowers and wild life. There are some gorgeous "eateries" and oldy worldy pubs to enjoy.

What makes this apartment unique

Our apartment is centrally located and therefore you can enjoy easy access to all the surrounding places of interest - whether you travel by car or come to the Lakes by train. The public transport is excellent and we also have the Mountain Goat which operates mini bus excursions all over the Lakes on a day to day basis. There are many beautiful walks on our doorstep including Orrest Head, School Knott, Post Knott and the Dales Way which incorporates Biskey Howe with a view point offering breathtaking views for almost the entire length of Windermere Lake and the surrounding mountains such as Langdale Pikes, Coniston Old Man and Fairfield The Ambleside Horseshoe to name but a few.

Bedding provided - towels by prior arrangement. Outside: Private parking in the yard area - small shared patio area with garden furniture provided for your use. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The apartment is cleaned and the bed fully made up for your arrival and we offer a towel service if required at a small extra cost. For visitors staying for two weeks or longer we offer a change of bed linen at the end of each week. We provide a welcome tray with tea, coffee and biscuits for your arrival. Should you have any special requests (ie flowers/wine) we will always try our best to accommodate if prior notice is given and arrangements are made in advance. We are always happy to go that extra mile on your behalf to make your stay as delightful as possible.

Cosy stay in the Lake District

We enjoyed our long weekend at Robins Nest. Our puppy also loved his first ever holiday. It was in a nice quiet location and the bed was lovely and comfortable. We enjoyed having a well earned rest in the lounge on the sofa's of an evening.

Small clean and central

We had a lovely 4 night stay at this small apartment , it is very clean and central to Windermere and bowness is only a 15 min stroll downhill. There is everything you need for a short stay and Elaine the owner couldn't have been more helpful and friendly . Thank you for a lovely stay .

A cosy apartment with everything we needed for a short stay. Elaine was very welcoming in person and had also left a welcome card. There are very thoughtful touches throughout. The kitchen was well equipped and equipment was of high quality. There is a dishwasher but no washing machine. Tip: use the launderette in town, not the service wash next door. We separated whites and coloured and were charged £30 for not a lot of washing. The bedroom is small and the bed is up against three walls. Going to the toilet in the middle of the night meant climbing over my partner on the sequinned (!) duvet cover, which was a little awkward. Otherwise excellent.

Manchester and Liverpool airports are both approximately one and a half hours drive from Windermere. Windermere Train Station and the Bus Station are five minutes away from Robins Nest. There is a variety of options to explore the Lake District from Robins Nest using local transport be it by road or water or on foot! A car is by no means essential!


Robins Nest is in the heart of Windermere village. Bowness Bay, being one mile down the road, boasts three steamers which regulary run between Newby Bridge and Ambleside and a ferry service across the Lake to Sawrey (the home of Beatrix Potter).

Bowness and Windermere are very popular and picturesque holiday destinations offering a wide range of activities to holidaymakers of all ages including walking, boating, sailing, riding, golf, swimming. Bowness has a three screen cinema, the Old Laundry Theatre featuring regular live entertainment , country style pubs, 2 night clubs, endless restaurants and offers quirky and interesting shopping. Windermere is fortunate to have Booths Supermarket- renowned for its quality local produce and fine wine and beer selection.

Booking Notes:
To make a booking in the first instance please telephone us (either Elaine or Mel) (answer machine available).
A £100 non refundable deposit is required by return upon booking followed by full balance due eight weeks before arrival. For bookings made 8 weeks or less before arrival, full payment is required by return upon booking. Confirmation will be emailed to you upon receipt of deposit. We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday. Apartment available from 3pm and must be vacated by 10am.

If you are bringing your four legged friend please add an additional £20 per week to the total cost of our stay.
