About the Owner

Russ and Reena stumbled upon Bourton on the Water while on honeymoon and fell in love with the natural beauty of the area. The surrounding villages of Stow on the Wold, The Slaughters, Burford, Morton in March and North Leach are full of character with great pubs, historical sites and stunning national trust sites. We love great food and wine so we and have left you a list of our favourite restaurants and pubs but we also hope that you too stumble across some great local attractions as there are too many to name or list. We advise you to call Reena on 07977149072, who will be delighted to give you local tips.

Callow Cottage was perfect for a Cotswolds weekend - perfectly located & beautifully furnished

  • 5 of 5

I was really impressed by the experience of Callow Cottage from start to finish. Making the reservation was easy and communication was quick and efficient until check-in. The cottage itself was lovely - brand new, beautifully furnished, well set up with bread, milk and store cupboard basics and really conveniently located for all the sights of Boughton. Highly recommend it for a Cotswolds weekend

A perfectly placed sanctuary of calm

  • 5 of 5

Right in the heart of the prettiest village in the Cotswolds, this house is a brilliant find if you want a quiet winter retreat. It is close enough (3 min walk) to the numerous pubs, tea rooms and restaurants available in the centre of the village.

Its in the heart of perfect Cotswolds countryside and we have enjoyed walks leaving straight from the village.

The house itself is very spacious and very well equipped. We'll definitely be back in the summer season with family and friends as it sleeps 6, at least, and has a nice patio garden for BBQ'S etc.

Perfect weekend-away retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I treated ourselves to a weekend away for my birthday. We travelled down on the Thursday evening and worked remotely from Callow Cottage on the Friday, so we were ready to wind right down on the dot of 5pm. And relax we did. We had no problems at all with the WiFi signal; we were using two laptops, one iPad and two iPhones! The signal reached the top of the house without any issues.

The cottage was peaceful, cosy and clean: the bedroom was warm and inviting (we chose the en-suite room at the top of house); the kitchen contained more than everything we needed (including a dishwasher - brilliant!); the living room was very comfortable - it has a Smart TV and the owners generously provide an Amazon Prime account for guests' use.

The cottage is located a five minute walk from the centre of Bourton, which is convenient and also means you don't feel like you're right in the thick of it. There was also a lovely circular walk a few minutes from the house, which we took.

We definitely plan to return - and next time might even bring some friends. Or maybe we'll keep it for ourselves!

Good but could have been better

  • 3 of 5

+ Very good location, right in the middle of the town.

+ large rooms

+ no traffic noise

+ Smart TV

- The bedrooms had very squeaky/ noisy floorboards, especially the large room on the 1st floor. Also, the shower in the master bedroom (2nd floor) was very noisy and could be heard all the way to the ground floor.

- House was not adequately clean. Found crisps under the living room sofa. Also mats in the hallway and living room downstairs were very dirty underneath.

- Neither of the 2 Housekeepers picked up or returned any calls, even though we left voicemails asking them to call us back. This was especially disappointing as the welcome email said to contact them in case of any problems.

- Wifi in the house was very poor.

- Baby travel cot that was provided was very old and dirty. Mattress was very worn out

Ideal place to stay

  • 4 of 5

Excellent location so close to the town with good eating places and well situated for walks and visits to other parts of the Cotswolds. Accommodation perfect for our grown-up family with the 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and spacious living area, all beautifully decorated. The one thing missing in the master bedroom was nowhere to put clothes - a small wardrobe with some shelves would be a big improvement, and also a lighter weight duvet for the warmer weather!

A lovely cottage in a great location

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time staying in this cottage for a week in June. A five minute walk from this cottage brings you to the picturesque centre of Bourton on the Water and so it is ideally located for a relaxing holiday.

The house is nicely decorated, comfortable and generally well equipped. One thing that we would love to have for future is more comfortable furniture in the living room for relaxing in the evening - there is a corner sofa currently, however it is not very comfortable.

We had a lovely time staying in the cottage and would definitely return if we are ever back in the area.

Location

From the Owner

We loved the fact that Bourton is a bustling village so you can walk to the little well stocked supermarket, restaurants, tea rooms and also walk to a variety of beautiful pubs along the river Windrush this is a real benefit because taxis are hard to find in the Cotswolds so its nice to be able to have a few glasses of wine with dinner and leisurely walk home. Nearby The Slaughters are absolutely stunning villages which shows off the famous Cotswolds stone cottages at their most divine. We recommend you stop off for a pint of local brew and tasty lunch time bite another great pub, the Slaughter Inn Or take a drive through country lanes to Burford and have a fabulous meal at the Lamb Inn.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Reena Edson is part of a budding literary group and good food lover. She would be happy to organise a writers retreat or supper club weekend, please contact her for more details.

River:

The beautiful River Windrush flows through the village with a series of beautiful stone bridges which has led to Bourton on the Water being called "The Venice of the Cotswolds". The next village is The Slaughters where you can treat yourself to an extra special meal out at Michelin rated Slaughter Manor and the market town of Stow on the Wold is just a short 10 min drive away.

Travel:

The house has parking for two cars on the front drive. A car is recommended as the surrounding villages are lovely to visit and a public transport option between the villages is not always available.

Distances:

3 minutes walk into the centre of Bourton on the Water making Callow Cottage an ideal place to stay and explore the area. Birdland, the Motor Museum, the Model Village several traditional village pubs and the beautiful river Windrush, with it's attractive stone bridges and riverside tearooms, are all within 5 minutes' walk.

Further Details:

The village has several lovely tea rooms, independent restaurants, pubs and artisan shops many of which line the river banks making Bourton on the Water an exceptionally pleasant village to explore.

Attention Country File Fans!

Adam Henson's farm is a mere 8 mins drive away comes highly recommended by Reena's nieces Victoria and Megan.

Foodies may want to stop by the Wheatsheaf Pub in North Leech for amazing locally sourced dishes with an exciting twist.
