Enjoyable cottage holiday

  • 4 of 5

This comfortable cosy cottage was lovely to stay in. It had everything we needed for our stay. There are three bedrooms so it can sleep 5 people with no problems. Even though it is on the main road I didn't really hear much traffic. Is is placed ideally for walking into town where there are lots of places to eat. The car park space that comes with the cottage was very convenient as it was just across the road. This cottage brought back happy memories as it reminded me of my youth and going back to visit my family. The owner is very friendly, helpful and was willing to answer all my questions. I would recommend this cottage to my family, friends and anyone else thinking of staying in Honiton.

Lovely cottage

  • 4 of 5

Cottage was lovely and clean. Lots of eating places locally. Beds good. They have been recently replaced and new 3 piece suite made our stay more comfortable. We stay here regularly and have never been disappointed.

The garden is not directly accessible from the house but is at the end of a side passage. This is not mentioned in the description.

The "large" garden turned out to be small and was shared with a neighbour's large rotary drier. It is also directly overlooked.

Despite a comment from a previous guest five years ago that the double bed mattress was past its best the mattress clearly has not been replaced; it is now the most uncomfortable bed I have ever known. The other beds were as bad.

The radio tuner on the Hi-Fi did not work and the DVD player was missing.

The property was very clean and tidy. Pity about the above.

Owner's Response: The bed was replaced last year and is therefore obviously not the same one that someone commented on five years ago. The DVD player is not missing but is in the TV which works well when you use the correct remote. Whilst the garden is at the end of a short passage as the cottage is over 200 years old they were often built in this way and it is certainly not small. Most of the guests come back to Abbots cottage year after year and some guests have been twice this year already. I notice that Mr. Farmaner runs his own guest house and wonder if he goes around reviewing other places with this in mind. The cottage has been inspected this year by Visit England and was given a 3* rating by a professional assessor.
