About Anne MacDonald

We are a Scottish family with six year old twins. We love the rural highlands and islands and spend lots of time here in the Summer. I also run a corporate events agency and deal with corporate hospitality in my job spending a lot of time researching venues and properties for clients. I feel I've brought the best of this experience to the coach house.

Anne MacDonald purchased this house in 2012

Why Anne MacDonald chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

We bought the coach house as our perfect weekend retreat. The estate is particularly good for cycling and getting close to nature. We love the tranquility and paddling in the river with the family is about as hectic as it gets. There is very little traffic and we're lucky if the post van passes once a day.

What makes this house unique

We wanted to make the coach house a really comfortable property for our guests. Although the property is traditional we have designed the interior in a contemporary boutique style reflecting the nature and landscape nearby.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Highland Coach House was the perfect place for us to enjoy a peacefully quiet (but luxuriously comfortable) country retreat at Christmas – we had an absolutely wonderful week! The hamper full of delicious Scottish goodies and the beautiful Christmas decorations (including a tree with sparkling lights) made us feel so warmly welcomed we instantly felt at home. All the furnishings are lovely (especially the master bedroom) and if the weather hadn’t been so kind to us we could have spent all week in front of one of the 3(!!) fireplaces, snuggled up with books or listening to music. With crisp dry days, we explored every nook of the superbly gorgeous glen – up hills and down long country tracks – and loved returning as it was getting dark to light a fire. We like to cook, and yes, the kitchen is as well equipped as other reviews say. We bought beautiful local produce at the butcher in Beauly – supplemented by visits to the deli and fruit & veg shops also there (and the huge Tesco in Dingwall). On the one wet day we had we drove to Ullapool – stunning scenery even in the rain! We are more than happy to recommend the coach house to others – it is a truly lovely location. It feels remote without being too far to main roads and towns; you’ll see the wildlife and stunning scenery that the Highlands promises outside your door – and you won’t want to leave!

Prepare to Settle In!

  • 5 of 5

There were times during the week when we had to force ourselves to leave the house. It is warm, cozy and comfy and there is really no reason to ever leave, except that you are on vacation and would perhaps like to visit a few places while away! We enjoyed making a fire in the kitchen and relaxing there after dinner with a book and a wee dram! On our entire trip, I got the best sleep at the Highland Coach House. It is quiet, cool and dark - the perfect combo for those of us with sleep issues.

For shopping, the Tesco in Dingwall is huge, with many options. We never ate out during our week there, since it was easier to just shop and cook at home. Since it is 5-6 miles down a single track road, once you are there in the evening, you really don't want to go out again (or at least we didn't want to).

Anne was amazing as a host. Our original house reservation cancelled on us 2 weeks prior to arrival, so we were so happy to find Highland Coach House. Anne made our stay very welcoming, including a birthday banner for my daughter and a phone call to make sure we were all set.

If you are looking for a place to stay in this part of Scotland you will not be disappointed!

Perfect Luxury Highland Escape

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my dog and three children and loved everything about it. The house has been beautifully renovated and is furnished to an extremely high standard, giving a real feeling of luxury. The master bedroom in particular is stunning, with huge (very comfortable) bed, wood-burning stove and roll-top bath.

Everything was immaculate on our arrival, with some nice personal touches to make you feel especially welcome.

The house has everything you need to unwind and enjoy your stay - whether it's walks in the surrounding countryside, playing games together at the kitchen table in front of the fire, watching DVDs and Sky TV in the comfortable living room, relaxing in the roll-top bath or enjoying a meal together.

The location is perfect if you want a peaceful escape from civilisation - we didn't feel the need to drive anywhere during our weekend; there is such a variety of stunning scenery on the doorstep.

It was very cold outside when we visited, however it was easy to keep the house cosy with the plentiful supply of wood provided for the fireplaces.

Very highly recommended indeed - I hope to return before long!

We were looking to get away from it all and this was the perfect location. It is close enough to Inverness to enjoy its excellent restaurants but isolated enough to be able to wander the day away exploring the surrounding area on foot. Our only regret is that we did not bring our dogs with us.

This is truly a five star property and we would not hesitate to return.
