About the Owner

We are a family of 6 from the south of England who bought this property as our vacation home in 2005. We have modernised the home and use it for our family holidays several times each year. Our children were aged from 1 to 11 when we bought the house and we have continually found new and exciting things to do in the area each year. You may choose to fly down to the house but we have mostly driven from our home in England.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The house was lovely and fulfilled our expectations. The garden and pool area were fantastic, we ate outside all the time and the view was amazing! The weather was hot so the fans provided in the bedrooms were very welcome. Agel is a very quiet village which suited us as we were looking for peace and relaxation which we got in spades! The area surrounding is beautiful and we hope to return.

A comfortable well-maintained house in a beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our week in your lovely house. Everything you need is there, everything worked and nothing went wrong! The house is in a peaceful spot with great views across to the sleepy village of Agel. With temperatures over 30 degrees the pool was well-used and we ate all our meals outside on the terrace. A great base for cyclists, with the the Canal du Midi towpath at Capestang and Argeliers a short drive away. We also cycled on the Passa Pais voie verte from St Pons de Thomiere, only half an hour drive north into Haut-Languedoc. A visit to nearby Minerve definitely recommended too. A morning trip to the bakery at Bize Minervoise was usually combined with a paddle in the river. Our only suggestion is a parasol would have been good at the outdoor table - the mid-morning sun by the time we had breakfast was quite strong!

A fantastic house for a wonderful family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

The house was just perfect for our family. We holiday near Narbonne every year, and this year has been the best yet! The location of the house struck the perfect balance, with easy access to busier places such as Narbonne, whist at the same time enjoying the quiet of the countryside. We ate in some fabulous restaurants, and visited some awe inspiring places. Minerve was an absolute favourite, as was canoeing in Roquebrun. The house itself surpassed our expectations, and was everything we needed. It was spacious, clean, not too hot inside (which has been an issue in other houses we have rented in the past), and had everything in it that we needed. Needless to say, the pool was wonderful, and we made use of the pool lights to have a swim on our last night..we didn't want to leave! Geoff welcomed us on the first day, and couldn't have been more helpful. His local knowledge was most valuable, and he recommended some great places to go. I really can't fault anything about our stay. We made some wonderful family memories here - thank you!

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three generations had a wonderful holiday on 2 - 16 July in this comfortable and well-maintained villa. The house is very spacious with extremely functional floor plan and good facilities. The scenery from the terrace is lovely and the pool area is absolutely fantastic. We also highly valued the good location which enabled the excursions to the nearby cities, villages, vineyards and beaches. Will definitely return!

A really enjoyable week

  • 5 of 5

Although we had some cool days and a thunder storm on the last night the weather was mostly very pleasant and we really enjoyed the week, some of it spent in the pool and garden and some of it visiting the nearby attractions. We particularly enjoyed our trips to Beziers, Pezenas, Narbonne, Gruissan and had a lovely drive around the 3 Chateaux of Aguilar, Queribus and Peyrepertuse. The last one was awe inspiring. There are lots of lovely chateaux and villages to see. We plan to visit Carcassonne for a day as we leave. The holiday cottage was very clean and well equipped and gave plenty of privacy in the garden and pool areas. Thank you Tresia for the surprise bottle of wine, for thoughtfully leaving us milk and bottled water and also for letting us stay in your lovely house.

Excellent property in quiet location

  • 5 of 5

The house was in an excellent position on the outskirts of Agel. It was very well equipped and we very much enjoyed the stay. Pool was excellent. The property was in very good condition throughout and the owners provided a very good service through a local representative who was there to meet us at the start. We would strongly recommend this property and would use it again. It is only about 30 minutes from Narbonne and Beziers, and about 40 minutes from the beaches.

AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5

We stay in Villa's every year in this Region and this is by far the best place we have stayed in. From the beginning booking our stay to us returning home the owners were very helpful throughout and the address provided for the sat nav was spot on so we did not have any problems finding the villa. The villa is well equipped, immaculately clean and tidy and has everything you require for your stay. We have 2 children who loved the pool and the activities supplied making this villa perfect for families. The views are amazing and everything advertised is there and true. The facilities are outstanding and we will be using this villa for our future holiday's. The owners are fantastic and provide excellent customer service. We will be recommending the villa and possibly taking friends and family with us next time. The local restaurants are very good and faultless and the local amenities are advertised correctly. We really enjoyed our holiday and everything was spot on to our standard and faultless. We simply didn't want to leave. Thank you to Tresia for everything.

Location

From the Owner

We bought this house as a future retirement home and as our family holiday home. We holidayed in this area for several years before buying a home there and love the area, the people and all the activities there are within an hour of the house to entertain the children. For those with an interest in history and culture there are also many areas of interest including Carcasonne, Beziers and Minerve - all beautiful historic cities. The house is located in a lovely maintained private garden with truly exceptional views of the countryside to gaze out at from every direction.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The long sandy beaches of Valras and Gruissan are approximately 45km distant. The driving time to the beach is around 40-50 minutes.

The property is serviced by several airports: Beziers-Cap D'Agde 54km, Carcasonne 60Km, Perpigan 89km and Toulouse 152km. The property is 1082km from the channel tunnel terminal giving approximately 12-15 hours drive.

Distances:

The property is located between the two historical towns of Béziers – a thriving city even when the Romans conquered it in 35 BC, and Carcassonne – a unique medieval city which inspired Walt Disney and the castle for his film Sleeping Beauty, and can also be reached by foot, train or in an open carriage. On the way to the golden sandy beaches of the Mediterranean, (42km) stop mid-way at Narbonne, a pleasant town in which to wander around with its historic remains in the shade of the plane trees.

There are many locations of interest including the ancient walled city of Carcasonne, the national park (within which the property sits) and water park and other amenities at Narbonne.

There is a selection of videos and CDs including Disney classics.

In summer, our children particularly enjoy the canoeing and rafting opportunities on the Cesse and other local water courses.

Note - The swimming pool will only be useable from May to end of September inclusive. At other times it will be covered and not available for use.
