We are garden and landscape designers and have created the meadow here from pasture. It has taken over six years.

We converted and modernised the cottage from a 1958 chalet bungalow.

Relaxing break in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was a really lucky last minute find. The listing description and pictures are very accurate - the views are glorious and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, well presented and well equipped. The owner Ruth, made us feel incredibly welcome and had a vast knowledge of the area and all it had to offer, from the local arts scene, coastline, farm shops and farmers markets to lovely country walks. We both slept marvelously well - the bed is huge and very comfortable and due to the cottage's location down a small country road, very peaceful.

I would definitely recommend 'Colmers View' - quiet and peaceful but so much to explore in the surrounding area. We look forward to returning!

Property looks a bit tired in need of repair but views are beautiful

  • 2 of 5

Says that the property can take five people but we found it a bit crammed. There was not enough seating area for us all and I think the pictures give are miss leading. The stairs to the upper room do not feel safe they are small and the angle is far too steep. I wish they would say that the owner live next door so you have to share the garden. You feel like you have to tip toe around the owner who patio area was nice where ours the decking had holes and very crammed even just with two setting there. The kitchen window frame also in need of repair was allowing in ants from outside. Did not like to see a payment meter to use some things especially as I felt we had paid more the enough for the week there. Bathroom also small for a family. The garden had that wild meadow theme so attracted a lot of flies in to the house. Plus side the view to the back is beautiful but I would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: I am sorry the house was not how you imagined it to be. Most of our guests comment on how accurate the description and photos are and they really enjoy the countryside and it being a rustic country house. I have taken action on your comment about feeling cramped for a family of 5 and shall in future only let it to 4 people. We have also added a list of things to the property description to warn people who may be making a similar mistake to yours of what we do not provide here. We never provide refunds to people after their holiday.

Comfortable stay in lovely location

  • 4 of 5

Our accommodation was clean and comfortable and next door to owner, who was most kind and helpful. We were situated on a quiet country lane a few miles from Bridport with its lovely vintage market and variety of cafes and eateries. The property had a beautiful garden and wonderful views, and was a perfect base from which to explore West Dorset.

The Perfect Country Escape

  • 5 of 5

Set in a quiet country lane, close to the sea, this property has a beautiful landscaped garden, stunning views of the surrounding countryside, and lovely walks direct from the front door.

The property itself is spacious with a well equipped kitchen and two outside seating areas which can cater for all weathers. The bathroom is spotlessly clean, whilst the bedroom is very homely, with a huge bed!

The owner Ruth is great fun, and a font of local knowledge, which enabled us to fully appreciate the local delights.

If you’re looking for the perfect county escape ‘Colmers View’ is the one!

Lovely owner, location and view

  • 3 of 5

A lovely owner, Ruth; a lovely location; a lovely view. The annex was roomy but Spartan. Some things didn't work properly like the cooker, towel rail and the electricity twice!! Still we loved our stay.

Owner's Response: The cooker is new this season and has only been used 5/6 times in all. It is in perfect working order. No one else has complained about it. The electric towel rail in the shower room has a clear notice on it saying that it does not heat up. There is an option of a fan heater directly above it. No one else has complained about this. There is nothing wrong with the electricity supply and the cottage is homely and not Spartan. No one else has ever complained about this.

It's coming up to exam season so I decided to getaway for a week to revise in a peaceful environment. Decided to come to colmers view and it exceeded expectation. The location is perfect and the views are glorious. Ruth was very welcoming and friendly, and accommodation was spotless and homely.

Thank you very much! - Charlie
