Cottage in Christchurch, Dorset, England - Beautiful Cottage In Ideal Countryside Location, Close to All Amenities

A delightful Cottage situated in a quiet country lane with little traffic going by other than Horse Riders, Walkers and Cyclists. It has original Victorian features with wood floors and rugs and a cosy log fire. The gardens at the front and back are pleasant places for relaxation. There are footpath walks from the Cottage in all directions, with lovely views. It is off the beaten track but everything is within easy reach.

I bought the Cottage because it's unique and unspoilt, and because of the location. An oasis of calm but close to everything. I love the Countryside and I love the Sea. This has both.

What makes this cottage unique

There are so many areas of outstanding natural beauty right on the doorstep. You can lose yourself in the peace. Yet the Towns with Shops and Entertainment are also not far away.

Notes on accommodation: PARKING: In the private Driveway, beside the Cottage, and the Lane outside the cottage which has no restrictions. SUITABILITY: The Cottage is ideal for 1 or 2 Couples, 2 Singles or a small Family. Sorry, dogs are not accepted. Outside: The Back Garden is sunny all day and into the evening, although there is shade from trees when it gets too hot! It is sheltered, secluded and enclosed with a side gate that can be locked. It has an all weather Table and 4 adjustable chairs; 2 Sun Loungers; Bistro Table and 2 chairs. The Garden has flowering shrubs around the lawn which is mowed by the Gardener. The Front Garden is also sunny in the mornings and a pleasant place to sit with morning coffee. Bed Linen is provided. Towels are not provided except by arrangement with the owner. Visitors are requested to leave the Cottage in the same condition of cleanliness and repair as at the start of the letting period for a full refund of the deposit.

Perfect peaceful base for exploring the New Forest

My wife, 4 month son, and I chose to spend a week here to explore the New Forest and surrounding areas. Booking was very easy, and Elizabeth's communication was excellent throughout.

Despite being tucked away in a very quiet backroad, the cottage was easy to find by sat-nav, and proved to be a good central location to venture down to the coast, or up into the depths of the New Forest with all destinations being less than an hour's drive away.

The facilities were appropriate for a cottage of this size, cutely decorated as you would expect of a cottage with some nice French influence. With a large Supermarket a few minutes away, we were able to stock the fridge and cater for our own lunchtime picnics and evening meals.

There is a lovely garden on offer, but we sadly didn't spend much time in it due to a packed schedule, however it seemed to be a great suntrap for those who just want to relax in a very quiet surrounding. Passing traffic is very minimal, so there's very little road noise.

Ascending the somewhat steep and narrow stairs, the master bed was very comfy and there was plenty of storage and hanging space, along with a heated airing cupboard to help dry washed clothes. Duvet and pillows are provided, but we did need to bring our own bed linen and towels. Our son's travel cot also fitted nicely in the 2nd bedroom, at the foot of the doublebed, although it could have also fit in the master bedroom too...

The bathroom is a great size as well, with deep bath and a large shower.

The wifi connection was very good too, tv a decent size for curling up to watch a film at night, as well as hot water being readily available for showers/baths/washing (after reading the very helpful information folder to learn how to boost the boiler).

A drawer in the dining room was full of local leaflets and maps which was very helpful to decide on day-to-day activites, and there are a couple of very good local pubs nearby for drinks/dinner too.

On the whole, we had a great time at the cottage, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to singles, couples or small families.

English Country Gem

My husband and I stayed here with our 10 year old daughter. We consider ourselves fortunate to have discovered this cottage. The location was perfect for us to visit family and to tour all the amazing sights Dorset has to offer. We took advantage of the many sights and activities the area has to offer, including: feeding ducks at Christchurch Quay, the Priory, we had tea at Highcliffe Castle and walked along the beach. We were amused by the horses in Burley and went on a bike ride in the forest. We were also close enough to the Jurassic Coast to go on a successful fossil hunt (3 fossils!) and visit the Swannery at Abbotsbury. Closer to home, we enjoyed the local pubs, especially The Three Tuns, the atmosphere was cosy and quiet with great food.

Old Lawn cottage is quintessentially English and delightful in every way. Our goal this holiday was for our American born child to experience English history and culture; I have to say, this home provided the perfect backdrop for all our adventures. We appreciated all the period detail and integrated design of each room. We loved how clean it was and the owner provided us with information about everything in a folder, it was so helpful! Having stayed in other owner homes we really appreciate the fact that personal goods were removed and we had plenty of space to put our things. This was true for the bathroom, bedroom and the kitchen. Even the refrigerator was empty. From the moment we walked in it felt very comfortable and homey. Our daughter settled right into her bedroom. Our bed was very comfortable. You do need to bring your own linen. The bathroom is spacious and beautiful. My favorite place was the pretty garden, we heard and observed so many different birds. We took time to to sit out in the sunshine and enjoy the peacefulness of it all. This home is a treasure, we feel privileged to have lived in it for our summer vacation.

10 minute drive to Mudeford Beach. Sandy Beaches all the way to Steamer Point and Highcliffe and coastal footpath continues on to Barton on Sea and beyond.

15 minute drive to Hengistbury Head and Southbourne Beach. Blue Flag Sandy Beaches extend to Bournemouth and beyond to Sandbanks where there is a 10 minute Ferry across the entrance to Poole Harbour to more beaches in The Purbecks. Plenty of Parking along the coast. Coastal Footpath (off road) and Coastal Roads have spectacular views.


Cross Channel Ferries at Poole (45 mins); Portsmouth and Southampton (1 hr)

Bournemouth International Airport. (30 mins)

Train Station at Christchurch (15 mins)

Buses run from the Cottage to Christchurch and Ringwood.

Car recommended.


Bransgore Village 1 mile by road (Footpath short cut).

Christchurch 3 miles.

Bournemouth 6 miles.

No shortage of places to go and things to do within easy reach and to suit all ages and tastes - and the weather.

Further Details:

The 10/15 min walk to Bransgore Village may be taken off road. The Footpath leads to the The Carpenters Arms and through the recreation ground, on to the Shops and 2 more Country Pubs, The Crown and the Three Tuns, all providing good food. The shops include: Bakery, Butcher and Delicatessen, Coop General Stores, Take-away, Newsagent and Post Office.

The 10/15 min drive to Christchurch gives access to a wealth of Restaurants and Coffee Shops in attractive surroundings.
