House in Serdinya, Nr. Prades, Pyrenees Orientales, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Peaceful Location Near Small Village

This historic water mill was built in 1711 and is by the side of the River Tet. There is terraced garden at the front and back with a path down to the River.

There is a barbecue and pizza/bread oven outside the front door with a dinning area. In the back garden there is a raised swimming pool (5m in diameter) and a large area with hammocks and chairs between the fruit trees. Le Petit Train Jaune tourist train passes over the garden (make sure to wave) with nearby stations a kilometer away. The mill itself has a open plan kitchen/living room/dinning room with a large woodburning stove (and plenty of chopped wood under the railway arch) and 3 double bedrooms (two with double bed and one with twin singles). There is a large bathroom with shower/bath, bidet and washing machine.

The historic village of Villefranche-de-Conflent is 5 km from the mill. There are plenty of lovely mountain walks and lots of opportunities for bird watching, cycling, fishing and lots more.The sky resorts of Les Angles and Font Romeu are under an hour away by car as are the beaches on the mediterranean.

The real deal if you want authentic France but with all the comforts.

A totally unique property in a lovely location with helpful but unobtrusive owners who care about your holiday.

Imagine relaxing in an orchard with own pool counting butterflies with gin and tonic at arms length.

Alternatively, drive up into hills to Mon Louis (Vauban fortress, church..) or down a few km to Villefranche, Prades or Ille sur Tet. Local markets, cave tours, hiking,walking cycling-so much to do but you can do absolutely nothing too!

Perpignan about 1 hour away with other airports like Girona also within easy reach. Ideal for lovers of France/the French. Suits first time renters or those more experienced in renting in France too.

We love the Tet valley and this historic mill by the River Tet gave us a peaceful haven for our holidays. Serdinya is a small, friendly mountain village with lovely walks and close to the historic walled town on Villefranche-de-Conflent, the market town of Prades and the spa town of Amélie-les-Bains. It is a short drive from the ski resorts but also only an hour from the Mediterranean.

Further Details:

Serdinya is a small Catalan village with narrow meandering streets, bordering either side of the River Tet. It has a small shop/bar/cafe and Post Office which are easily accessible from our property over a small foot bridge. From the bar terrace there are stunning views of Mount Canigou.

Here is a small selection of places of interest within easy reach of our house.

15 minutes drive along the N116 is the town of Prades, with its excellent cafes and restaurants serving traditional French Cusine. Dine Al fresco whilst soaking up the sun and enjoying the relaxed French way of life.

There is a weekly open air market in the square where you can purchase typical French local produce. A wide variety of shops and banks can be found in the town including cycle hire.

Take a visit to the Unesco World Heritage site Villefranche-de-Conflent (5 mins drive). Roam the narrow streets of this famous walled village with its quaint shops and restuarants. Travel up to Fort Libre upon the mountain, in a 4x4 and walk back down via the underground tunnel which leads back to Villefranche.

There is a little yellow train (Petit Train Jaune) which can be seen from our terrace and garden. It travels in both Summer and Winter from Villefranche-de-Conflent to Bourg-Madame, near Andorra, stopping at various places of interest including the ski resort of Font Romeu.

A 20 minute drive, nestled at the foot of the Canagou is the Spa town of Vernet les Bain. This area is the sacred mountain of the Catalans which reaches a height of 2785 metres. This town has sulphurous waters which have properties to treat respiratory problems and medical ailments. It was the first arboretum village of France with 1500 trees of two hundred different species.The Casino nightclub leisure complex in Vernet les Bain has a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. In the town there are numerous Restaurants, bars, shops and a Museum.
