Impressive property & perfect for a party

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Dumcrieff for my husband’s 40th Birthday celebrations. The house was absolutely lovely and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a celebratory getaway with family & friends. It had everything we could need and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in this impressive home. Wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Philip for all your help with the booking and welcome gifts! The Prosecco & chocs went down a treat!!!

A great stay in a house full of character

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic stay. The house is well presented and decorated to give the feel of a proper manor house. Situated right in the river it's grounds provide some pleasant walks and exploring. I will be recommending this accommodation to my family and friends

Stunning property and great hospitality

  • 5 of 5

From start to finish we had a fantastic 4 day stay at Dumcrieff House. Philip was an incredible host, supporting us with our holiday planning and making introductions to local experts to help us with various activities we were looking for over the weekend, from fly fishing lessons on the Annan to a whisky tasting at the property.

We were delayed on arrival due to traffic so Philip and his wife went to the property to let in our grocery deliveries and packed everything away for us so all was in order when we arrived - such incredible service and warm hospitality!

We had 17 staying but there is so much room you always had your own space. The facilities are fantastic and we had everything we needed.

What better way to spend a Summer evening in Scotland than barbecuing local angus steaks outside the snooker room on the Dumcrieff House terrace, surrounded by woods and pasture with the River Annan running by.

Many thanks again Philip for your hospitality, I can't recommend Dumcrieff House enough.

Lovely venue beautiful view's great location

  • 4 of 5

Even though we had a wonderful weekend here there were a few things that would have made it better. The house itself was much more comfortable than originally thought as we did worry it would be too grand and not cosy the rooms were beautifully decorated and had an interesting layout however they were very cold the log burners were lovely but not practical for heating the vast reception room in particular and the central heating perhaps not strong enough in the bedrooms. The kitchen was well equipped and spacious however the oven was a challenge cooking for a large party it was very slow to cook breakfast took us over 2 hours to prepare and we had to allow twice the normal amount of time to cook a main meal while it looked the part it was honestly awful and although we laughed a lot about using the BBQ we found in the grounds it would have been much quicker! Despite this we did have a great time and the house itself was impressive. The owners and the people of Moffat were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome.

Owner's Response: The cooker is an Everhot Stove which works like an Aga. This means that it must be kept switched on 24hrs a day. If someone switches it off, or dramatically reduces the temperature by mistake, it would take several hours to reach operating temperature again, as would an Aga. Our house staff and our chef cook Full Scottish Breakfasts and evening meals for eighteen guests on a regular basis without issue. Cooking times are certainly not longer than an ordinary cooker when the Everhot is used properly! When used correctly the two wood burning stoves create more than adequate heat for the hall and the drawing room. As these guests did not use all the logs provided, I presume they did not manage to operate the stoves correctly. If I had been notified of any problems with the stoves at the time, I would have dealt with them immediately. To be informed of an issue two months after the guests have left is obviously too late! We have never had any problems with the central heating system in any part of the house and when my family stay in the house ourselves during winter months, the house is always very warm and comfortable.

Family Party for a 50th

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely fabulous weekend was had with 3 generations of the family all equally wowed by the surroundings. The property managed to be both grand in size but cosy in feel. The kitchen was well equipped with sufficient fridge space to house the food mountain we brought with us. The level of cleanliness was exceptional throughout and the towels and linen were of a high standard. The pictures don't really do the space justice, each bedroom is huge and offered amazing views over the trees in their autumnal glory. The bench outside was used for afternoon tea with the noise of the river in the background adding to the calming nature of the place. The owner Philip was very helpful with the pre-party arrangements putting us in touch with local kennels, chefs and cleaners. All in all a brilliant weekend and a fabulous property for a party.

A luxurious haven

  • 5 of 5

I booked Dumcrieff for a 50th bday celebrations. The booking process (through Owners direct site )was easy -but for me it was the communications with Philip who answered all my queries and doubts in detail through email or phone that was the highlight. We were a mix of adults, teenagers and a couple of toddlers and spent a weekend there

Full compliments to Philip and Dematra who make the house what it is now

The house is awe inspiring and has a pleasing mix of the antique and the modern-such that you feel at home and not out of place. The beds and bedrooms are very spacious luxurious and very comfortable-the bathrooms and kitchen have all the mod cons and are fully kitted out for use( 2 refrigerators , 2 dishwashers an Aga that is on always) . The rooms remain warm and the shower water pressure is strong . Most bathrooms have dual access -internally from the bedrooms and from the corridor The kids had no qualms about the wifi and phone coverage was fine in the ground floor.-but the games and billiards rooms and the outdoor space kept them away from their gizmos

The grounds and surroundings are a delight to explore We were there in the 1st weekend of October and were expecting wet cold conditions -and instead were awarded the most glorious sunshine with temp of 16 degrees - long walk followed by a picnic lunch on the lawns. Moffat is a short drive away for any necessities

I prearranged with Philip and got an external caterer for the bday dinner

I had also arranged a housekeeper's services through Philip -unfortunately she became indisposed but then Dematra stepped in

A beautiful place. We left with fantastic memories of Dumcrieff and hope that we can return sometime

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Dumcrieff House is the only exclusive-use property of it's kind in the area. It is set in private grounds well back from the road, unlike some other properties which are near noisy motorways, railways etc. There's ample room for parking cars, limousines and there's even space for several large helicopters to land on the lawn.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Philip,

We're just driving off now. We've had an incredible weekend. Thank you so much for all your help and suggestions in advance of our stay. When you next talk to Frank and Ian please pass on our thanks too - they did an incredible job arranging some of our activities that made the weekend all the more enjoyable.

We all loved the house and facilities, and would definitely stay again and highly recommend you.

Many thanks,
