Rex Officio Sleeps 2 (1 Bedroom)
Open plan kitchen, dining and reception area, some 18ft square. Well appointed kitchen with washing machine, ice-box fridge and microwave. Upstairs bedroom sleeping two in either a twin or double arrangement and ensuite shower room.
Damers is a thatched cottage in Chaldon Herring (or East Chaldon as it may otherwise be known) overlooking the village green on one side and open fields on the other. Rex Officio is a modern conversion with views across open farmland to the rear. Both properties are only 4 miles by road from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, but can be walked by the more adventurous across the downs. Despite our remoteness, a short drive will take you to the seaside towns of Weymouth or Swanage, the market towns of Wareham and Blandford and our county town, Dorchester.

About the Owner
About Mrs Rosemary Hodder
These two cottages are owned by Rosemary Hodder who has been fortunate to have lived in Chaldon Herring for most of her life. Now retired from a very busy and demanding life operating a coach company and, with both children resident in New Zealand, life is spent in the garden and playing bridge. The company’s former offices and workshop, once the hub of taking tourists to foreign parts, have now been converted hopefully to attract tourists into south Dorset with no motorways, impressive Jurassic coastline, sandy beaches and rural retreats nestling among attractive market towns.

Well situated property convenient for exploring local area
Clean, well appointed and with a comfy bed, this property is set in a picturesque village, close to a pub. From the cottage you can easily drive to all the local attractions and amenities or why not leave the car behind as we did and walk from the front door to Durdle Door. A great afternoon out. Don't forget your trainers as the path is really quite steep in places and maybe a snack to boost your energy on the way back. Our holiday here was a real tonic .
Great with a 2-year old
We travelled with a 2-year old and had our own cot, but Rosemary was able to provide one had we not. She did provide a highchair as we requested. There was plenty of room for the cot in the bedroom. Although there was no bath and our 2-year old had not had a shower before, it was the perfect introduction (with the help of some bath toys brought from home) and there was no problem. The open plan downstairs was great for keeping an eye on him and being able to cook etc. as necessary. Bonuses were tractors going past throughout the times we were there - he is mad about tractors. We were even treated to the hay being cut, made into bales, and loaded onto a trailer in the field behind the house late one afternoon. We had friends staying at Rosemary's other property a few doors along in Damers and it was so easy spending time with them, or going across the road with a football to the big field with a permanent goal set up there to have inter-family games, but also having our own space when we wanted - a great alternative to our original plan to get one big property between us. Highlights of the property were a massive and very comfortable bed, the bed being set up by the window so having a sense almost of camping and being out under the stars, discovering fossils in the paving outside, and a very welcoming lemon drizzle cake when we arrived. Dorset's best village shop is just a mile or so away and we bought homemade Portuguese custard tarts, local beer and a map from here. The map meant we were able to plot our route to the sea which was a leisurely hour and a half walk to Durdle Door - just the right distance for 2-year old to sleep in the carrier and have a nap ready to watch tractors again in the evening on their way home to bed! Ideally situated for trips to beach and local attractions. All in all a very happy stay. Would definitely consider coming back.
Quiet area and plenty of space
Thanks again for the wonderful weather that you had ordered for our holiday in East Chaldon. We were able to experience some wonderful days in Dorset and along the Jurassic Coast. The cottage was very generous and spaciously equipped and, my wife, my motorbike and I, we felt very comfortable there. I was fascinated by the view at night of the British magic starry sky seen straight from my bed.
Thanks again for the warm welcome and the pleasant and relaxing stay with you in the south of England. We wish you a nice time and stay healthy.
Many greetings from Bavaria
Great little cottage, perfect for us two!
Rex was a great base for lots of lovely Jurassic Coast walks. It was clean, comfortable and well-maintained. Rosemary provided very good customer service both before and during stay. Would highly recommend Rex and the local pub (which is a short walk away!)
