About the property

Damers is a thatched cottage in Chaldon Herring (or East Chaldon as it may otherwise be known) overlooking the village green on one side and open fields on the other. Rex Officio is a modern conversion with views across open farmland to the rear. Both properties are only 4 miles by road from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, but can be walked by the more adventurous across the downs. Despite our remoteness, a short drive will take you to the seaside towns of Weymouth or Swanage, the market towns of Wareham and Blandford and our county town, Dorchester.

About Mrs Rosemary Hodder

These two cottages are owned by Rosemary Hodder who has been fortunate to have lived in Chaldon Herring for most of her life. Now retired from a very busy and demanding life operating a coach company and, with both children resident in New Zealand, life is spent in the garden and playing bridge. The company’s former offices and workshop, once the hub of taking tourists to foreign parts, have now been converted hopefully to attract tourists into south Dorset with no motorways, impressive Jurassic coastline, sandy beaches and rural retreats nestling among attractive market towns.

Half Term Long weekend

  • 5 of 5

We came down to Dorset for a long weekend over the Feb half term. Damers cottage was lovely.

The cottage is situated in a small village in a little valley, there's no mobile phone signal, but we were met by the owner as we stopped to check our bearings.

The cottage is picturesque inside and out. The owner had left us a cake and some milk so we were able to have a nice break after our trip down.

The cottage was clean and well equipped. The two main bedrooms were large and spacious with plenty of room for our two young boys to play around. The third bedroom is small but perfectly formed.

We'd spent out few days visiting, Lulworth Cove, Weymouth, Portland and some of the local attractions. It was a great spot.

We visited SeaLife Centre in Weymouth, the Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World. I was impressed by them all, but our favourite by far was Monkey World.

Damers is the type of place we could visit again and again.

a lovely time had by all

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was a lovely, comfortable place to stay for our party of 5, including 2 teenage boys. Had everything we needed and was a great base for exploring the area. The owner was very friendly and made us feel at home. The village was peaceful with great food at the local pub and places to walk - we walked across country to Durdle Door. Lots of wildlife and birds to see. Great days out in Dorset and area - fossil hunting on the beach, Bovington world of tanks, Tyneham deserted village (a must-see for atmosphere), Christchurch Priory and the Red House museum, Swanage pier and steam railway and crabbing in Bridport! Great to crash out in comfort when we got back to the cottage. Everyone wanted to stay longer and we would happily stay here again.

A pieceful and wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a short week with the children (aged 7 and 12 years). Both the cottage and the small village is beatifully situated in the pcituresque setting of the south dorset country side.

The cottage is covered with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. Further more so many things to do and see within a one hour driving distance max.

relaxing break in rural Doset

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 4 adults enjoyed a relaxing holiday in this lovely cottage. This really homely, surprisingly spacious thatched barn conversion was an ideal base to explore Dorset. With a 2 minute walk to the local pub with good food and Dudle Door and Lulworth cove within a 10 minutes drive there is no need to travel far to enjoy the area. We like walking and there were lovely walks from the door and coastal walks nearby. There are however plenty of other things to do and see within a 40 minute drive. Its a good area for adults and children to enjoy with lots of historical and geological sites to explore. Rosemary gave us a warm welcome and the cottage was comfortable, clean and well equipped. I would have no hesitation to recommend taking a holiday in this lovely cottage.
