Villa Zalia is an immaculate, three bedroom villa with two private pools in large private grounds at the edge of Alcaucin, a typical Andalusian white village, one hour from Malaga. The house is fully equipped with modern appliances, Gas BBQ, Internet and AC/Heating in all rooms. The large balcony and covered terrace and pool areas are great places to relax and offer far reaching mountain and lake views.

About Dr. Stephan Engel

It has always been my dream to live in southern Spain, somewhere close to the Mediterranean. After 30 years of working for an international oil company, I finally managed to realise this dream, and we are now living in a rural property not too far from Alcaucin. I am a geoscientist by background, with a love for the outdoors and nature in general.

Following my retirement, my wife and I have now taken over management of Villa Zalia, and are aiming to provide our guests with a great holiday experience.

We had a fantastic time staying at the villa in such a beautiful setting. I have stayed at several different villas across andalucia and this is by far the best I've experienced for views, pools (there's two completely private ones!), kitchen (very well equipped) and rooms (all with air-con which was a life saver in 35 degree heat).

Notes on accommodation: Villa Zalia is situated on the slopes of the La Maroma mountain, thus the grounds are steep. The second, larger pool is situated below the house and reached via a short path and set of stairs. It offers a large area for sunbathing, shade, shower and great views as well as privacy. The small pool next to the house is ideal for younger children - but supervision is essential. The house is prepared to a high standard for you with many of those basic necessities you might need provided (basic cooking ingredients, washing powder for example). Outside: If you just want to relax, Villa Zalia is unique in so far as it offers 2 private pools - a smaller one (2m x 3m) right next to the house (great for a quick dip), and a larger pool (8m x 4m) on a terrace slightly below the house. Sun loungers, deck chairs, tables & chairs for outdoor dining, umbrellas etc. are at your disposal. Utility Room: Washing machine & dryer, iron & board, hoover, drying rack. Cleaning / Towels / Linen: Property is provided with all linen and towels for up to 6 persons. Please bring your own beach towels. For stays of 2 weeks or longer, change of towels & linen will be provided weekly. Other: Large garage used as store for extensive garden and pool furniture, firewood.

Get away from it all

The villa is as described by the owner and as per the previous reviews. Totally relaxing place away from the maddening crowds. The views are tremendous. The lovely village of Alcaucin is only 15 mins walk away.

spacious and private property

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this villa. A very relaxing stay in a remote area. A car is essential due to distance and terrain from nearest village. Villa has great amenities including washing machine, tumble drier, a well equipped kitchen, wi-fi and air con. Villa is large and airy and has fantastic views. Good supermarkets in Velez Malaga approx. 20 minutes away by car. Overall we all had a very nice and relaxing stay like a home away from home.

Great Villa perfect country escape

The photographs don't do justice to this villa, it's much larger than it looks and the location is perfect just outside the village and in easy walking distance.

The views are exceptional with so many places around the property to sit and take it al in.

It is fully equipped with almost every thing you could ever need

The two pools are a nice touch one on the rear of the villa is just a plunge pool, but a great place to sit drinking a glass or two bubbles.

The second pool is much larger with lots of areas to sit and take in the Rays, with an area of shade when you need it.

Fantastic villa in stunning surroundings

We spent two weeks at this villa from the 14th May. There were four adults and one seven month old in our party and the villa was perfect for what we needed. The owners are very helpful and welcoming, ensuring that you have everything you need for your stay. This is a very well presented villa with all amenities and two perfect sized private pools. Alcaucin is a fantastic village and the villa is a lovely short but scenic walk from the local bars, restaurants and shops.

Great, late summer holiday!

This spacious and private villa suited our family of four adults very well: three decent-sized bedrooms with plenty of storage/hanging space; three bathrooms; a large living area; and, a clean and well-equipped kitchen. (Each room had air-conditioning which would be invaluable in high summer.) Early mornings were spent on the balcony with its spectacular 180o views across the valley, lazy days down at the pool area which was accessed down a track and which was surprisingly private, and evenings on the covered patio/BBQ area by the dip-pool. The villa was accessed from Alcaucin via a track which wound around the side of the hill, 5 minutes by car but a good 20 minute walk. (A torch would have been useful for the return journey had we had decided to go into the village in the evening.) But, we felt very secure. The Sierra Tejeda national park picnic/campsite is a 4 km drive away where there are well-marked walks and chances to glimpse the cabra montana and aquila real. We have stayed lower down in this beautiful valley, in the vicinity of Lake Vinuela, on four previous occasions but really enjoyed being high up and away from it all.

Wonderful Villa Zalia

If you like to get away from it all, yet be 5 minutes drive from a nice Spanish village (walkable for the energetic) and just 20 minutes drive from the coast, then Villa Zalia is ideal.

Views from the villa are stunning, with an upstairs balcony, perfect for those late summer evenings and a downstairs veranda, great for barbecues, adjacent to the small dipping pool. Air con in all rooms, a must in the summer, spacious and well laid out.

The main pool is a good size with plenty of space around it. There's also a covered area by the main pool to retire from the sun. Although the pool is down a slope from the villa, our children (11,9,7 and 5) had no problems getting up and down on their own.

We have stayed in many villas in Spain over the last 10 years, and this is probably the first time we would consider returning to the same Villa.

A full refund will be given for cancellations up to 6 weeks prior to commencement of the lease. Cancellations between 6 and 2 weeks before incur a 20% charge. 50% of the rental fee is charged if cancelled less than 2 weeks before the start of the lease.

Changeover Day:
Preferably on Saturdays, though we will attempt to accommodate other days. Check-in after 4 pm., check-out by 11:00 am. If more flexible arrangement is needed please discuss with owner or caretaker.

Notes on prices:
Payment of the equivalent Euro amount into German or Spanish bank account will be accepted. A 10% discount will be given for 2nd and 3rd week. Request for long term rentals will be considered:
