Barn Cottage (2 Bedrooms)

Originally a grain store, its high ceilings and spaciousness are unusual for a country cottage. There is a good-sized sitting room with open stairs to the first floor which has a spacious king-size bedroom, a twin bedroom and the bathroom. The dining room leads from the sitting room to a separate kitchen, with a dishwasher.

About the property

We have just opened our new leisure facility, with a hot-tub and swimming pool, a small gym, and a games room with pool/table tennis/air hockey table. The facilities are shared between the 5 cottages, but can be booked for private use at no extra cost.

East Briscoe Farm Cottages are set in a beautifully peaceful, south-facing position, on a 14-acre wooded riverside estate in Teesdale, County Durham.Set in truly beautiful North Dales countryside, East Briscoe is the perfect place to escape the city and unwind; offering a wealth of interest for naturalists, cyclists and walkers. The holiday cottages are situated in Baldersdale (made famous as the former home of Hannah Hauxwell), two miles from the village of Cotherstone, which has two excellent pubs and a village shop/post office. Holiday guests can enjoy nature walks around the estate, fishing on the estate and in nearby reservoirs, free-range eggs from the resident hens and seasonal food from the vegetable garden. Owner/Managers Emma & Chris live on site with children Grace & Sam.

About Chris Tarpey

East Briscoe is a family-run establishment - mainly Chris & Emma, with a bit of help now and again from children Grace & Sammy. We live on-site so are generally on hand to sort out any problems, or provide help or information about the area.

We try to be friendly, without interfering too much into your holiday - we know a lot of people come here for some peace and quiet, especially outside school holiday times.

Chris Tarpey purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Chris Tarpey chose Barnard Castle

We were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to take over East Briscoe when Emma's parents retired, and we've never looked back. We had visited many times, so we knew what a special place East Briscoe was, and we still think so today.

What makes this cottage unique

New leisure facility with swimming pool, hot-tub, gym and games room. Surrounded by beautiful, peaceful countryside. A walk down to the river on a warm spring day is a unique experience.

Lovely cottage and great pool and hot tub

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for our needs having a dog with us. The Cottage was lovely, and the leisure facilities made it even nicer. Needed to use some throws to keep us warm on the 3rd night as the temperature outside suddenly dropped and it got windy. Heating was on all the time, it was just unavoidable draft from old cottage windows. I am sure the owners would accomodate extra heaters had we needed to ask. Would be absolutely brilliant for a full extended family to book for a special occasion.
