Farm Cottage (1 Bedroom)

Perhaps the most like "a traditional country cottage" of all our cottages. Upstairs has a bathroom and a good sized bedroom (with king-sized bed) which can take an extra folding bed or a cot. The fair sized sitting room downstairs has a matching sofa and easy chair. It also has an open fire - we provide free firewood. The kitchen/dining room overlooks the meadows at the back of the farm.

About the property

We have just opened our new leisure facility, with a hot-tub and swimming pool, a small gym, and a games room with pool/table tennis/air hockey table. The facilities are shared between the 5 cottages, but can be booked for private use at no extra cost.

East Briscoe Farm Cottages are set in a beautifully peaceful, south-facing position, on a 14-acre wooded riverside estate in Teesdale, County Durham.Set in truly beautiful North Dales countryside, East Briscoe is the perfect place to escape the city and unwind; offering a wealth of interest for naturalists, cyclists and walkers. The holiday cottages are situated in Baldersdale (made famous as the former home of Hannah Hauxwell), two miles from the village of Cotherstone, which has two excellent pubs and a village shop/post office. Holiday guests can enjoy nature walks around the estate, fishing on the estate and in nearby reservoirs, free-range eggs from the resident hens and seasonal food from the vegetable garden. Owner/Managers Emma & Chris live on site with children Grace & Sam.

About Chris Tarpey

East Briscoe is a family-run establishment - mainly Chris & Emma, with a bit of help now and again from children Grace & Sammy. We live on-site so are generally on hand to sort out any problems, or provide help or information about the area.

We try to be friendly, without interfering too much into your holiday - we know a lot of people come here for some peace and quiet, especially outside school holiday times.

Chris Tarpey purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Chris Tarpey chose Barnard Castle

We were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to take over East Briscoe when Emma's parents retired, and we've never looked back. We had visited many times, so we knew what a special place East Briscoe was, and we still think so today.

What makes this cottage unique

New leisure facility with swimming pool, hot-tub, gym and games room. Surrounded by beautiful, peaceful countryside. A walk down to the river on a warm spring day is a unique experience.

Slightly disappointed, could have been a lot nicer without a lot of work. Outside area was a bit untidy, didn't get welcomed on arrival as stated, fold up bed for our daughter was a matteress on the floor and you couldn't stand up in the shower. On the up side though the area was lovely, the homemade biscuits were a nice touch and the swimming pool, hot tub and games room was brilliant!
