Set in its own spacious garden and surrounded by quiet countryside, this charming, detached, former farmhouse is an ideal place to get away from it all. The private swimming pool and large garden provide an ideal family holiday location. The interior of the property, with its exposed beams, stonework and wooden floors, is typical of the region and has been comfortably furnished in traditional French country style. Peuliard, a hamlet of Lizant, is located near to the pretty town of Civray in the south of Vienne. Nestling on the banks of the picturesque Charente river, Civray is dominated by an impressive Romanesque church which can be seen in all its splendour from the main square of the town. Pavement cafes and a twice weekly market add to the atmosphere of this pretty town. Fishing, canoeing and riverside beaches are also a feature on this stretch of the Charente river. Good area for cycling and walking. Shop 10km, café/bar 2km

About Ben Moss

We are three generations of a family, originally from Suffolk. Grandma and Grandpa bought the house in 1991 when they retired from teaching and we have all been enjoying it (and renovating it in the early years) ever since.

Why Ben Moss chose Vienne

Why this location?

We already knew the area and found the countryside charming and peaceful. Yet the house is not isolated: it is in a hamlet of three houses and most of the shops and services you might need are to be found in the nearby village or the small towns of Civray and Ruffec, just ten minutes drive away. It is close to main road, rail and air links and a comfortable day’s drive from the Channel ports.

The area offers all kinds of activities and entertainments, everything from a picnic and swimming in a local Plan d’eau (water park) to a day out at Futuroscope. It is especially good and safe for walking and cycling.

What makes this farmhouse unique

No 2 Peuliard was bought twenty-four years ago as “a project”. A realistic forecast, as this old fermette, though mostly sound, was very primitive and seemed to be slumbering quietly, enclosed in its acre of neglected garden and meadow. Alongside it was an attractive valley and all around was farmland and woodland.

Over the years we have restored it into a very comfortable family holiday home, carefully keeping original features like the stone-flagged kitchen floor. At the same time we have made many friends and enjoyed joining in local village life. We have had a lot of fun and a lot of help from our grown-up children who now bring their children to enjoy the simple pleasures of French country life.

"May I say what a good time we all had at Peuliard. There were 10 of us having a family get together including our 4 grandchildren aged 3 – 7. The children (and most of the adults!) spent a large part of the time in and around the pool but we loved the Charente countryside. Walking, jogging, cycling and canoeing were also part of the fun. Notes on accommodation: Welcome pack provided on arrival, including bread, milk, tea, coffee, pasta, sauce and wine. Outside: The house is surrounded by a large garden with ample garden furniture and sun loungers. The 10m x 5m swimming pool is fenced and has it's own patio/decking area. There is a terrace at the rear of the house, with table, chairs and sun parasol for eating al fresco. There is also a fire pit, in case the evenings get a little chilly. A meadow forms the rest of the garden, ideal for family games (although fairly rough underfoot) There is also a table tennis table available for guests. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels included (as well as separate towels for the swimming pool.) The property is cleaned between changeovers, but if extra cleaning is required this can be arranged between you and the cleaners. Other: Toys, DVD Player, Television, CD Player, Books, Radio

Fantastic house in a beautiful location! We enjoyed our stay and thinking about coming back .

We loved everything about the house and the surroundings. From charms of the old farm house to the well equipped kitchen , from privacy of the swimming pool to the locks on the gates to the pool (very useful if you have small children).

All ready thinking about booking it for the next summer.

A wonderful family holiday

We had such a lovely holiday in Peuliard! I wanted a place for my whole family, children and grandchildren to enjoy and this was it.

The house is set up for families. It is very well equipped with the usual household necessities but also with activities to appeal to all ages.

There is a large swimming pool as well as a table tennis table and tree swing outside and lots of games, puzzles, books for young and old inside.

The house is also cool in the hottest weather, we had temperatures in the nineties but not inside the house.

The area is beautiful, many places to visit and enjoy and the owners have a very full folder of details of sites and routes.

Despite having a full house this was a very peaceful holiday in a very peaceful place. The star gazing is wonderful, no light pollution. I thoroughly recommend it.

Perfectly as advertised

Great stay in the house - just as expected from the description. Small hiccup at beginning although out of owner's control was handled quickly and efficiently. This is obviously a second home to the owners and has been a good project with a good result.
