Chocolate box cottage in the heart of the market town of Saffron Walden and yet situated in a quiet back street a few minutes walk away from the shops and restaurants of the town. The cottage has recently undergone extensive renovation to include new kitchen, bathroom and en-suite yet retains all of its historic character. The cottage is heavily beamed with a large inglenook fireplace to two rooms, oak floors to the downstairs. It has a small and very private courtyard garden. The property has on road parking available outside. Ideally situated to explore Saffron Walden and Cambridge and London is easily accessed by the local station Audley End which is a 5 minute drive away from the cottage.

This cottage was bought to be my personal bolt hole when visiting England and also a home to share with my friends and family as I am currently living in Fort Lauderdale Florida. I have dual British and American citizenship having moved to the USA 17 years ago.

Stunning

Wow! Wow! Wow! What an amazing home. I thought it couldn't be any prettier than the pictures...how wrong I was! It is a beautiful cottage, with a lovely modern feel. It was pristine clean on arrival and the lovely touch of Tea/Milk etc was very welcome. The quirky stairs add to the whole ambience. The beds are sooo comfy and the linen is super high quality. We will absolutely be back! Can't wait. Thank-you!

My husband grumbles that we never get to stay in the cottage ourselves, as it has become so popular; I think this is an excellent problem to have. What a lovely okace

Great cottage, quiet location, easy parking yet minutes from the centre of town. Better equipped than you might expect and lovely and clean. Mind your head and those stairs, but all part of the character. SW is a lovely place and some of the surrounding villages are just stunning. Thank you for a great stay and would love to return,

Luxury in quiet cul-de-sac in charming town

Modernised to the highest standards, this property was ideal for our family of five plus dog. It is close to many places of interest and even the cold wet weather didn't dampen our enjoyment.

Great blend of ancient design and current comfort

We had a wonderful stay. The cottage is lovely and nicely equipped. The location is within easy walking distance of groceries, pubs and shopping, but is very quiet. Saffron Walden had so much to offer that we ended up taking fewer day trips than we had originally planned. Market days are not to be missed, and everyone was very friendly.

I totally agree about not missing market day; when i get to stay at the cottage I love to walk to the market and browse all the stalls. I always end up bringing something yummy back though one time I ended up buying a small bench and table for the courtyard garden. You never know what you're going to find. I fell in love with the cottage in 2012 while visiting Saffron Walden; it was so pretty with roses around the door and only a 5 minute walk from the town's restaurants and shops. I had lived in Saffron Walden before moving to Chicago, USA in 1999 and now live in Fort Lauderdale , Florida. I am very happy to have bought the cottage with a view to my husband and I retiring there in a few years time. I love Saffron Walden with its historic centre and market place and the cottage's location, though in a very quiet street, is only a few minutes from the shops, market place, pubs and restaurants making it unnecessary to drive anywhere when in town. The cottage is only 25 minutes drive from the centre of Cambridge and a 45 minute train ride to the London Underground.

Notes on prices:
Weekends and short breaks available out of high season by arrangement. The cottage if available is charged pro rata per night for use of two bedrooms with an additional £20 charged per person on the total price for use of the sofa bed. Apologies but this is due to laundry and housekeeping costs. Do please enquire.
Your deposit is non refundable but please contact us if you do have to cancel and if we get a replacement booking we are happy to give you a refund.

If you are looking for a romantic period cottage to spend a week or weekend this cottage is an ideal match. 15th century charm with brand new plumbing,kitchen and bathrooms. It's location between Cambridge and London make it an ideal base for visiting the UK as the Audley End train station with its regular service to both cities is a 10 minute drive away making it unnecessary to drive into the cities. It is also perfectly situated for touring the East Anglia area including Suffolk and Norfolk. The cottage oozes character from every beam and has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Audley End Park is only a 5 minute walk away from the cottage meaning you can enjoy the English countryside as well as all that the town itself offers.
