About Melanie Gulliver

We purchased the house in 2000 just before the birth of our son and use it as our own holiday home. We mainly let the house to family and friends. The house is homely (albeit very large) and very well equipped; to quote a previous holidaymaker,'you really have thought of everything'. We love it and guests seem to love it too. We love the pool of course in the very hot whether, but our favourite spot is the veranda where we sit and read or watch the village world go by. We really feel part of the community. My son used to love watching the tractors coming back from the fields every evening and the local villagers call 'bonsoir' as they pass by. The best thing is that the 2 best value restaurants in the area and the bakers are in walking distance. I am multi-lingual inc French and Russian.

Melanie Gulliver purchased this house in 2000

Why Melanie Gulliver chose Lot-et-Garonne

We had holidayed in the area for four years before buying and so we knew the area and had grown to love it. It is very rural, very different to England, with individual shops, a typically French market in the local town, lots of local produce, wonderful weather and interesting places to visit. The locals are very friendly and welcoming to tourists and the restaurants are excellent value (especially our local the Vieux Porche). Having stayed previously in the middle of the country where you had to take the car to get bread in the morning, we deliberately chose the village. There is nothing better than strolling down the road in the early morning sunshine to get the bread or croissants for breakfast. Incidentally, the baker's in the village is also one of the best in the area.

What makes this house unique

We love being able to walk to the bakers and the restaurants. We revel in the difference between life in a really rural village like Seyches and our life in England and the locals are friendly and welcoming. We also love the feeling of airiness and space that the house itself offers. Rooms which are enormous in comparison to our rooms in England, and of course the pool in the garden. We relax as soon as we arrive and I can cook when I feel like it with all the equipment I would have at home, but if I don't feel like cooking the restaurant is such good value, I can suggest we go out without feeling guilty. Our teenagers can go out cycling, play tennis or walk down to the bakers for a cake in the afternoon, without us worrying. The house has a wealth of toys and games for all ages and well stocked bookshelves. Guest comments confirm that the house can be enjoyed by adults and children of all ages.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Finding a property that can accommodate two families comfortably, with a total of 6 children ranging from ages 2 to 15 years old was not easy, however this property proved to fit the bill perfectly! The house is situated in a great location, within easy access of a few local shops and restaurants. The house is very spacious and has plenty of French charm about it. It has a great pool with plenty of pool furniture around it to relax and read or go for a dip to cool down on a hot day. There is everything you could possibly need in the house, as this property is a second home for the owners. If you are looking to experience typical French rural life and enjoy a relaxing holiday in a home from home environment then we can thoroughly recommend this property. J Sand Colchester

Spacious and charming

  • 5 of 5

A great experience. The house is wonderful, spacious and well equipped. Attention to detail made us feel at home from the day we arrived. The pool is a good size, and the garden area lovely. Seyches is a charming village and very well situated to explore the surrounding area. Lots of sight seeing and hiking available.

A great family holiday location

  • 5 of 5

We had a superb time there. The house was so spacious and very well equipped. There were 3 families staying and there was more than enough room for everyone. Our grand daughter particularly loved the pool.

Perfect holiday in a fabulous house!

  • 5 of 5

From initial enquiry through to answering all my questions and offering helpful advice on the run up to our stay, Mel you have been a pleasure to deal with. When we arrived we were really blown away with the house, it's not often that the reality lives up to the pictures. The thoughtful touches in the children's rooms were so appreciated. The house was fully equipped at described and the essentials provided were another example of you going the extra mile for your clients. The pool area was clean and the children spent nearly every waking hour in it! I know every review raves about it but the local restaurant really is amazing. 4 courses including wine for €12! Worth booking in the morning as you walk back from the bakery with your fresh bread, croissants and pain au chocolat. If you want to experience authentic France this area is perfect for you, it is less geared for foreign tourists and my school French was stretched to its limits but a please or a thank you in French, along with some miming on both sides, went a long way to get things understood.

We ranged from 3 to 70 years and everyone agreed that it was an fabulous holiday, whether like me you don't want to move from the pool or like my mum who went off visiting local villages each morning there was something for everyone.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you all enjoyed your stay and that you appreciated the extra touches, such as the toys for the children and the well stocked cupboards. It is hard to describe, but as it is our own holiday home, we appreciate being able to just arrive and settle in straight away and so ensuring that there is a whole range of things ready to use in the house means that our guests can also feel at home as soon as they arrive. This is also why I prefer personal contact with our guests so that I can advise and help to ensure that your holiday is successful right from the start.

Our two week stay at Ly Glycine was fantastic. The house is beautiful and so relaxing. Mel provided everything you could think of and more. The village has everything you need on a daily basis. Two mins walk down the road is La Vieux Porche. Brilliant bar/restaurant. Great food and lovely owners, would highly recommend. Mel provided so much information on the house and surrounding area, we felt at home immediately. Everything you need for a great holiday

Would love to return.

Wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

This was my perfect vacation. Very roomy 19th century house with 4 LARGE bedrooms and high ceilings throughouut. Extremely well equipped right up to pool towels in each room and full bookshelves. Nice little town where you can walk to the bakery, small grocery, and dinner. Though we cooked about 1/2 the time in the well- equipped kitchen. Seyches is surrounded by fields of sunflowers. We did day trips to castles, gardens, beach, and then came home and read by and played in the lovely pool. Melanie and her local contact were very accessible and helpful. We had 10 year old twins and a college sophomore and everyone loved it.

Wonderful holiday!

  • 5 of 5

As a large family with children and grandchildren this made the perfect holiday. Everyone was in awe of the lovely house with large rooms making plenty of space for all of us. Mel provided excellent service and information about the house and the area, especially for one of our party who needed information on fishing locally. The basket of essential needs, such as plasters, super glue and toothbrushes to name but a few, provided on the upstairs landing with a note just to replace what was used was a lovely idea and proved very useful. The swimming pool was great.

It was lovely to be in the village, where there were shops and the excellent Vieux Porche restaurant where you can spend a long leisurely evening for a very reasonable price. Further afield, the gardens at Temple sur Lot were wonderful.

Thank you for a super holiday!

Owner's Response: We are very pleased that your large family group, spanning three generations, all found things to enjoy about the house and the region. It is true that the sense of space in the house is difficult to describe, but it does have a 'wow' factor. That, and the character of the house, is what attracted us to purchase in the first place and we are so happy to share it with our guests. We will continue to make personal contact with our guests to ensure that your holiday is as successful as we can make it.
