About James Ware

The cottage has been in the family since the 1950's and has been a bolthole for the grandparents or adventure packed sailing summer holiday base for the younger generations. As a family we spend our time sailing to the beach, swimming of the quay and enjoying the spoils of the Anchor Bleu pub and barbecues in the back garden, not to mention watching the busy village life with a cup of tea in the sunshine of the front garden. Glorious days!

James Ware purchased this cottage in 1950

Why James Ware chose West Sussex

The cottage has been in the family for 60 years and has been a comfortable base for many visiting families to either sail or discover the local area. The visitors book is a cherished item going back to 1976 for the first entry!

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is in the heart of the village close to the waterfront, so close there is a step in the wall to stop high spring tides! There is a generous sized rear garden with patio and barbecuing area with chiminea for late night warming fires. There is a grassed area for the kids to play on and raspberries abundant throughout the summer. The cottage has a wood burning stove in the living room. Outside toilet and shower caters for the dripping sailors on their return.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous cottage in a lovely village with lots to do in and around the area, we had a great time. Cannot fault the accommodation and will be recommending it to both family & friends. Dickie & Tina

We all thought that the location of the cottage was perfect, right near the harbour, with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Love the tidal nature of the area and emphasis on sailing activities. The harbour couldn’t be more beautiful. The cafes around were great, and the new co-op met all our needs. The cottage was superbly equipped, and more so than other places we have stayed. The bedding was great, and the house was all functional. The price was very reasonable, and we all discussed making it an annual pilgrimage, so we hope to see you again! Neil and friends

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage. We had a wonderful time and mum enjoyed the sea air! We definitely will be back again and will recommend the cottage to friends at home. Caroline (Ireland)

A gem of a cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic long weekend at Gloucester cottage in January. The cottage is bursting with character and is bright and homely. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived and everything that we needed was provided by the owners, including wood for the log burner. All the rooms are tastefully decorated and the bedrooms are warm and comfortable. The cottage has a lovely garden, which we are looking forward to using when we return in the Summer. The location in old Bosham is beautiful and is just a stones throw away from the creek, which was perfect for early morning walks. The cafe opposite serves delicious home made cakes and I would definitely recommend the Anchor Bleu pub for dinner, which is less than a minute's walk away. It also caters well for vegetarians. This house really is the ideal setting for a relaxing break.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent the Christmas week in this lovely cottage and cannot praise it enough. It is deceptively spacious and very warm and cosy, with plenty of logs provided for the wood burner, and well equipped with everything you need. Lovely garden too though not really the right time of year to appreciate it as much as we would in the spring or summer!! The location is fabulous, very close to the water with lots of fabulous walks on the doorstep. Very pretty village with lovely church, pub and cafes. Can highly recommend this cottage.

Owner's Response: Dear R, we are thrilled you had a good Christmas at the cottage. Bosham is quite magical at that time and it sounds like you enjoyed surrounding activities with a welcome warm fire to retire to. We look forward to a return visit, thank you, James

Ideal Bosham location

  • 5 of 5

We have just had our second visit to Gloucester Cottage. The setting is ideal and we had both 90 year old great granny (celebrating her birthday) and 20 month old grandson with us. The weather has been fantastic this week so we have enjoyed walks along the shore as much as time in the quiet garden at the back. We had a big family gathering in the garden at the weekend and lunch for 8 in the dining room this week - the house provided for everything (we did bring extra glasses!!!). We would certainly recommend the cottage whether you want to sit, sail or sightsee.

Delightful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

A truly lovely cottage, it was like staying in a friend's home, everything provided, immaculately clean & very comfortable, particularly good being situated in the centre of Bosham too. Masses to do in the area, Chichester, Denmans Garden @ Fontwell, great beach cafe in Littlehampton. We will most definitely return, a real gem of a holiday cottage.

A perfect house in a perfect spot.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this delightful house with our small child and had a perfect holiday. The house is very well equipped and we had everything we needed. It has a wonderful garden that was perfect for our daughter to run around and for us to relax in. We loved exploring the delights of Bosham. We also visited West Wittering beach and Chichester which are both close by. We hope to come again next year.
