Overview

About the property

House in Wark, Cornhill on Tweed, Northumberland, England - Quiet And Tranquil, A Lot Of Birds, 4 Miles From Coldstream & 13 Miles From Berwick-upon-Tweed

The detached cottage is situated in the lovely hamlet of Wark, within the remains of Wark Castle (Order of the Garter), protected by English Heritage. The nearest shop and pub and public transportation is in Cornhill on Tweed. There is a Co-op, shops and pubs in Coldstream just 4 miles across the river where there is also an exceptional golf course in the grounds of the Hirsal, home of Lord Hume. The cottage, on the bank of the River Tweed, stands high above the river giving panoramic views into Scotland. Enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the scenery while watching the salmon jump and the fisherman spending a lazy day fishing (or if you prefer to fish yourself, a trout fishing permit can be obtained at the Cornhill P.O. and salmon fishing can be arranged in advance through the local agent who represents the owners of the beats of the Tweed). Watch swans flying by at eye level, heron, ducks, pheasants and the numerous varieties of birds that share Wark.

About Julie Riley

We are a mother and daughter one retired and one a Housing Manager for a Social Landlord. Daughter also owns a shoe shop in Berwick upon Tweed and is a bit of a workaholic! We are local to the area and felt that the cottage was in a superb location and just so pretty and tranquil.

Father (Dad) helps out and maintains the gardens, he is also retired.

Mother in 60's and daughter in 40's.

We enjoy holidaying ourselves in the UK and know it's important that a house has the little essentials and on top of it all is clean and tidy. Daughter has two dogs and a 4 year old and knows it's difficult to get accommodation which is dog friendly hence allowing pets.

Julie Riley purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Julie Riley chose Coldstream

We fell in love with the view from the property, the peacefulness of the area and the design of this quirky little cottage.

The setting is just breathtaking and very calming.

It's not far from the main towns but far enough away to chill out!

What makes this cottage unique

What is not to like?

Spotlessly clean, everything to make it feel a home from home, scenery we can only dream of, peace and quiet, total relaxation.

Why didn't we find you before? So many wasted years!

detatched, quiet peaceful cottage ideally placed to explore northumberland and borders via car

  • 5 of 5

amazed at how many birds we saw during our stay..the cottage is set in a quiet rural area..its not on a bus route so defo need your own transport to get around and lots of private land so not allowed to walk or take dog for walks, was hoping to get down to the river but sadly no access to it on cottage side of the river

saying that, theres a couple of byways to walk along and the old railway that have no animals so safe to let pooches off lead..

friendly people in the village itself ranging from los angeles, france, essex, newcastle and scotland

theres a post box but no shops pubs etc but coldstream and kelso are fairly close for groceries and a bit of day/ nightlife

the cottage itself was lovely, clean, airy, well equiped and cosy..we stayed during feb so not the weather to sit outside but can imagine ot would be beautiful then...and watching the birds feeding thru the window was fantastic

A lovely cosy little cottage fantastically equipped and beautifully presented!

It was very quiet and peaceful and the location was amazing with a lovely view over the Tweed.

Saw loads of wildlife and lots of water fowl flying over the highlight being a black swan!

Thank you Martin, Sheila andJulie for everything.

HOME FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5

Quaint little cottage, nice scenery on the River Tweed, peaceful place, it is a shame that we could not walk down to the river side, not to worry the scenery was good. every morning while eating breakfast we could watch the blue tits, great tits, green finch's eating the nuts and if we where very still there was a couple of woodpeckers that would come and feed. The car park was a bit tight for our car ( VAUXHALL ZAFIRA ) but my husband managed to park the car on the slabbed area.

We did quiet a bit of touring around Northumberland ( what a place for scenery )

Within ten minutes from cottage if you go towards Coldstream go over the River Tweed and drive round the bend you enter Scotland ( NICE ) again perfect scenery. We enjoyed staying at the cottage, would recomend to anybody.
