Overview

About the property

House in Wark, Cornhill on Tweed, Northumberland, England - Quiet And Tranquil, A Lot Of Birds, 4 Miles From Coldstream & 13 Miles From Berwick-upon-Tweed

The detached cottage is situated in the lovely hamlet of Wark, within the remains of Wark Castle (Order of the Garter), protected by English Heritage. The nearest shop and pub and public transportation is in Cornhill on Tweed. There is a Co-op, shops and pubs in Coldstream just 4 miles across the river where there is also an exceptional golf course in the grounds of the Hirsal, home of Lord Hume. The cottage, on the bank of the River Tweed, stands high above the river giving panoramic views into Scotland. Enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the scenery while watching the salmon jump and the fisherman spending a lazy day fishing (or if you prefer to fish yourself, a trout fishing permit can be obtained at the Cornhill P.O. and salmon fishing can be arranged in advance through the local agent who represents the owners of the beats of the Tweed). Watch swans flying by at eye level, heron, ducks, pheasants and the numerous varieties of birds that share Wark.

About Julie Riley

We are a mother and daughter one retired and one a Housing Manager for a Social Landlord. Daughter also owns a shoe shop in Berwick upon Tweed and is a bit of a workaholic! We are local to the area and felt that the cottage was in a superb location and just so pretty and tranquil.

Father (Dad) helps out and maintains the gardens and usually meets people on site when they arrive to show them round, he is also retired.

Mother in 60's and daughter in 30's.

We enjoy holidaying ourselves in the UK and know it's important that a house has the little essentials and on top of it all is clean and tidy. Daughter has two dogs and a toddler and knows it's difficult to get accommodation which is dog friendly hence allowing pets.

Julie Riley purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Julie Riley chose Scottish Borders

We fell in love with the view from the property, the peacefulness of the area and the design of this quirky little cottage.

The setting is just breathtaking and very calming.

It's not far from the main towns but far enough away to chill out!

What makes this cottage unique

What is not to like?

Spotlessly clean, everything to make it feel a home from home, scenery we can only dream of, peace and quiet, total relaxation.

Why didn't we find you before? So many wasted years!

Lovely location.

  • 5 of 5

Extremely well appointed cottage. Stunning view of River Tweed from the rear terrace. No problem at all parking our Mazda3, but a very much larger car could be difficult. But if necessary the village parking area is just a short distance away - the village is so quiet it looks a very safe place to park.

A very quiet, peaceful location, but with so many places to visit.

A little pot of gold

  • 5 of 5

We feel we found a little pot of gold when staying at Rainbow Cottage, everything far exceeded our expectations, we loved the peace and tranquillity.

The entertainment was endless watching all the birds from the window, I filmed more than 10 minutes of 2 Greater Spotted Woodpeckers feeding on the peanut bird feeders....who needs tv?

We have a Mondeo Estate and managed to park in the parking space, the neighbours were lovely so all I can advise is that visitors give them the consideration that they deserve.

Looking forward to a 2nd visit sometime in the future, thank you for a wonderful 3 nights.

Intimate, cosy, well- appointed spotlessly clean cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Warm welcome and everything you would need for a stay away. The cottage lacked nothing in amenities, was warm and very comfortable. Bird-watching whilst eating breakfast was a delight as was the view down across the Tweed valley. Be aware that your car needs to be a small one if you hope to fit it on the driveway 'permitted' by the next door neighbour - who by reputation in the cottage visitors book can be a bit funny about the issue. We had no trouble but parked down the hill (50m) in the ample public village park. A perfect getaway for us and the two dogs, whose legs are considerably shorter having walked for many miles along the wondrous coast. It's a super base for lots of other things too - we would return at the drop of a hat to carry on exploring this area of unspoiled beauty, as well as heading north across the border. Four days was not enough for us.
