Two bedroomed light filled delight - Ideal for sandy Beaches, SW Coast Path & Cliffs, Mounts Bay, Coves and the charming fishing village of Mousehole

South Down Barn is a sunny, light filled delight approached along a bridleway and set amongst green fields close to the hamlet of Chyenhal. It is just a few minutes drive from Marazion, Newlyn and glorious Mounts Bay and 15 minutes from the stunning sandy beach of Sennen Cove. Sympathetically converted to a high standard by the artist owners who's art is evident in house and garden, the living areas are spacious, there are two good sized bedrooms and one bathroom, the whole is light, airy and bathed in sunlight. From its SW sloping position it commands fine views of Penwith towards Lands End [9 miles] and the high moors. The near 2 acres of garden and woodland make this a wonderful and relaxing environment filled with sound of birdsong and the breeze in the trees. The garden attracts plenty of wildlife including foxes, badgers, buzzards, owls, dragonflies and butterflies. It is an ideal place to explore all that the area has to offer; beautiful beaches, stunning cliff walks, sailing, surfing, galleries, restaurants and pubs.

Notes on accommodation: There are areas of garden including the courtyard set aside specifically for guests. You are welcome to use most of the rest of the garden but children should be under adult supervision at all times. We welcome well behaved dogs by arrangement . We have a no smoking policy. Outside: As you arrive there is plenty of gravelled parking space for two cars. From here a gravel path leads to a contained area of garden with grass, picnic table and rotary dryer. There is an outside tap here for rinsing wetsuits etc. Through the gates from here you are welcome to stroll in the main garden which slopes gently up to a level area ideal for games and watching the sun set over the high moors to the west. On the south side of the barn is the courtyard garden, full of plants and interest including a small pond where you will see damsel and dragonflies, frogs and newts. There is a table and chairs immediately outside the kitchen, a sheltered sun trap or eating alfresco. Utility Room: Washing machine, steam iron, ironing board, hand basin. Plenty of space for shoes and boots, hooks and rails for coats and hanging wetsuits. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We provide fresh linen and towels including beach towels at the start of your stay. Fresh clean linen can be supplied weekly if your stay is longer. The property is fully cleaned between bookings.

Superb holiday

Such a lovely place to stay. You feel like you are miles from anywhere, but only just 2 minutes drive from Newlyn for amenities. The barn has everything you need on holiday, well equipped kitchen, washing machine and space to dry and very well maintained! The location is good for exploring the coves/beaches or just exploring the villages/attractions. The owners were so welcoming. Would definitely recommend this venue to anyone.

Incredibly peaceful

The barn is ideally suited to reach all the wonderful beaches of west penwith as well as mousehole and Penzance, but feels very remote. It is the quietist place We have ever stayed in with good walks right from the door. It is homely with a spectacular master bedroom. The second bedroom was a bit damp though not uncommon in these older properties. The owners were charming and provided an exceptional welcome cream tea as well as bath and beach towels. It's walking distance down a bridle path to the king's arms at Paul and a few minutes by car from mousehole where the Rock Pool Cafe was areal find. The Ship Inn has a warm local feel and 2 Fore Street has the best food for miles around.

The fishing village of Mousehole with its picturesque harbour and beach can be reached in 2 minutes by car or 30 minutes easy walk along bridleways and footpaths that afford stunning views of St. Michael's Mount and the bay. It is here that you can join the SW coast path that winds it's way along the cliffs and sheltered coves of the south coast. The golden sands of Sennen beach, famous for its surfing, is 15 minutes by car, as are the beaches of Mounts Bay and Marazion & St Michael's Mount.
