About the Owner

The owner of the Tower House has travelled to many beautiful places in the world, but finds that nothing quite beats the constantly changing views from the deck of the Tower House: the busy river with its ships, sailboats and ferries, the marina, the steam train and the wildlife on the river, as well as the shifting weather from glorious sunshine all day to wet and wild storms as they roll in off the sea. The house is filled with many things from travels across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas creating a unique and worldly atmosphere.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

It's an amazing house in an amazing location!

It's just a short walk to the ferry which takes you over to Dartmouth and also to the train station where you can get the steam train to Agatha Christy's house or Paignton.

It's also well located to drive to great beaches and pretty towns.

We stayed here for a week with our children and our parents and we all had a great time.

The house is located on a steep hill so there are a lot of steps and steep slopes to contend with, ok for most people but quite an effort for the oldies. Also there isn't any parking nearby so it's a bit of an effort to get your cases up the steps, but well worth it once you are there!

A fabulous property with the most amazing views.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic week at the Tower House at the end of August 2016 - myself, husband, 2 children and my Mum and it was one of the best holidays we've ever had. You need to be prepared for the lack of parking and the 74 steps up to the house but it is worth every bit of effort to reach the huge decked terrace that looks out over the River Dart. Beautiful accommodation, luxury in every room, spotlessly clean, all gadgets and mod cons throughout. Spoiled rotten by the outdoor hot tub and the panoramic vista - especially at regatta firework time - and we came away totally relaxed and refreshed. Exceptional customer service from both the owner and the local all round fab gent Peter.

We would whole heartedly recommend the property and will be doing our very best to get back there again.

For breakfast/brunch/lunch Cafe Al Fresco is a must and the cafe at nearby Slapton Sands does the best Devon cream tea in the history of mankind. Trip up the Dart on the Adventurer was excellent as was the visit to Totnes and the ride to Paignton on the steam train.

The Towerhouse is a gem of a property and we couldn't have asked for more!

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from a 2 week stay at the Towerhouse and couldn't have asked for more. The house itself is perfectly situated to enjoy those summer evenings overlooking the River Dart and all it has to offer. The Towerhouse feels like a home from home and has plenty of room for 2 families to share without the feeling of being on top of each other. The house comes with everything you could possibly need including Wifi and Apple TV.

Keith was always on hand with tips on places to eat and visit and always came back to any queries I had promptly. We also found the gardener and maintenance man offered plenty of advice during our stay.

Kingswear is just a short ferry ride from Dartmouth and we ventured into Dartmouth most days taking advantage of the ferry passes where you could buy a book of 20 tickets for £10.00.

I cannot recommend this property enough and we will definitely be returning!

Can't wait to go there again!

  • 5 of 5

The house is gorgeous and in a stunning location. Overlooking the river and with views of the naval college, we spent a lot of time just gazing out from the decking enjoying the view. In the evenings you can relax over dinner in the huge kitchen dining room which is great for entertaining and then there are two lounges to choose from! Keith couldn't have been more helpful and easy instructions regarding how to get to the house and parking etc. There are lots of steps up to the house but the view is most definitely worth it! Comfy beds, more comfy than ours at home! Easy to get across to Dartmouth on the ferry - lots of restaurants and we rented a little boat for a few hours. Can't wait to return, thanks!

Fabulous, clean, spacious home

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on the 29th December wanting a quiet relaxing few days over the New Year period and this property and area didn't fail to provide this. The location is excellent with superb views over the river Dart towards Dartmouth. The house is very clean and you can certainly feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. The very large kitchen is well equipped with everything you could ever need during your stay. Even though it was December and a little cold, we spent a lot of time outside on the large decked area, using the hot tub several times a day, we even used the charcoal barbecue !. We visited the local pub, the Ship Inn on New Years Eve, where we were made to feel very welcome by the owner and staff. Overall, we were very pleased with the whole experience of our break away and would highly recommend a visit here to anyone looking to book a high quality home.

Location

From the Owner

This area of Devon is fantastic for sports enthusiasts. Cycling, sea sports including kite surfing, surfing and kayaking, hiking, golf and more are all nearby. The house sits in an enviable position gazing over the Dartmouth estuary and the town of Dartmouth which hosts fabulous festivals, shopping, restaurants, and bars. Pristine beaches are nearby.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

World-class beaches are an approx. 10 min. drive including Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands. Salcombe and the many other beaches of Devon are close. The closest beach, Blackpool Sands, looks more Mediterranean than Devon and the waters are unusually clear. Facilities include showers, toilets, food. Lots of water sports available from kayaking to boogie boarding as well as wetsuit and snorkel hire. The popular Venus Beach Cafe serves organic and locally produced food.

Distances:

All within a 10-20 mile radius are the charming market towns of Kingsbridge and Totnes for eating, drinking, shopping and a bit of history. Salcombe, the vibrant yachting town; Brixham the busy fishing port and Dartmoor, the dramatic 368 sq miles of unspoiled beauty for walkers and cyclists. Beaches galore on the doorstep and fascinating river trips on the Dart with paddlesteamers or ferries and the steam railway and its charming trip to Agatha Christie's summer home and to Paignton.

Further Details:

Dartmouth restaurants include the SeaHorse from well-known Chef Mitch Tonks and his award winning fish and chip place RockFish. Dartmouth and the surrounding towns have plenty of fabulous places to eat including lovely waterside pubs. Boutique shops abound throughout Dartmouth and the various market towns in Devon. Visit Sharpham Vineyards for some local Devon wine and cheese and try many of the farm shops for organic locally gorwn and celebrated produce from Devon.
