Independent Water Mill Cottage in Rix, Nièvre, Burgundy, France

Overview

Property

Updated: 07-Nov-2016
Spacious 1 bedroom cottage with mezzanine, up to 4, with exclusive benefit of 5.5 hectares of meadows and water.

For some, Rix Mill Cottage is the perfect location, in beautiful grounds and close to a number of Burgundy vineyards, tourist attractions and places of interest as the unique (in the world) Guedelon castle project, whilst for others it provides a place of peace, quiet and tranquillity; the perfect place to unwind, relax and take life at a slower pace or think and create. The peaceful view on the site it offers will prompt you to dream, read, write, paint or explore, for your sole benefit, the 5.5 hectares of meadows and water and watch nature and wildlife available at your doorstep. The surrounding countryside will invite you to walks or bike rides. Swimming in the river, boating, pétanque, badminton and table tennis can be practiced onsite and, for an extra fee, yoga, fishing and micro lighting are also available all year round. And, on your arrival, we will invite you to a convivial welcome dinner to spare you the hassle of a late shopping or a visit to a restaurant, allowing you to make yourself home. We will then keep a discreet distance to preserve your tranquility. If you are looking for a genuine immersion in French culture, we can also share the mill and our table with you and host larger parties, up to 9 maximum, in 2 additional bedrooms (quote on request). For full details visit rix-mill-burgundy.com.

If you prefer not to pay any deposit, it is possible; we prefer to set up relationship based on trust rather than on administrative constraints. Just let us know. Our clients usually pay on their arrival either by cash or by Bank transfer, and an invoice is then delivered.

Wonderful place to relax and unwind!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful find this is! Christine and Yves welcomed us with a fantastic dinner and we found peace and tranquillity in their lovely property. We stayed in the cottage and had our own private and peaceful space to relax and unwind, the location is absolutely stunning. Just sitting by the river or wandering along the banks watching the wildlife was amazing. It is also a great location to explore the beautiful Burgundy countryside especially getting some great ideas from our lovely hosts! Will certainly make an effort to return.

Owner's Response: We wish any gite owner to get the opportunity to host guests as Julie and Chris. Their kindness, their refreshing joie de vivre, their curiosity and enthusisam about the mill and its surrounding, their generosity in sharing products from their own region and a delicious meal they cooked for us are the exact reasons why we enjoy running a gite and welcoming people from all around the world. And what a nice feeling to find the place in such a good state after their visit! We certainly would be very pleased to have another opportunity to host Julie and Chris.

Location

From the Owner

After 21 years expatriation (4 years in Switzerland and 17 years in England), we returned to France and fell in love with Rix Mill. Untouched and uninhabited for some 25 years prior to our purchase, we have enjoyed the combined challenge of restoring what is an historical Mill, pre-dating the French revolution, and introducing a high specification interior with 21st century comfort and the latest in modern communications technology. This type of site is rare as it combines features that you don't usually find together. The mill is in Rix village, therefore not isolated, while nature and wildlife are at its doorstep. It benefits from sun all day long and offers view on the valley and its wide spaces. Its location makes a lot of interesting towns, including Paris, quickly reachable by car
