About the Owner

I have been renting the house to guests since 2005. I have just started with Owners Direct, having rented through an agency since 2005. They were excellent, but with the inevitable additional charges I felt I could offer better value for money by going ‘Direct’ – I will be setting up my own website and will be asking guests to comment on this entry and the website to improve both. I have spent my life’s work in the quality service sector – I would much rather not sell, than disappoint. Judging by comments in the book, Tyno has succeeded to date! I am now retired and live with Monty, my friendly terrier, running open house to friends and family visitors who enjoy good local produce, beach walks with Monty and river sailing & canoeing....and the relatively dry East Anglian weather.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time at Tyno cottage. Heather made us feel very welcome as her neighbours for the week. Our youngest made a new friend in her dog, Monty, and she was kind enough to let him tag along on their walks. The cottage is small and full of character, exactly as described, and with plenty enough room for a family of four. It was clean and tidy, and plenty of hot water on demand. The shower was good and powerful, though if you are tall, you might need to duck to get in and out! It was a perfect base for exploring the area. Again Heather was really helpful and suggested some great places for activities or beaches. There are several lovely beaches within about half an hour, both in Norfolk and Suffolk, as well as canoeing on the broads only a few minutes drive away in Bungay which was good value. There are also several walks that you can take round the area from Loddon itself. The local pubs were friendly and welcoming to us as a family and the local co-op provided good value food and drink for picnics and evening meals. It's such a lovely part of the world and the cottage adds to the feel of being in the heart of the East Anglian countryside.

I would definitely recommend it as a place to stay and would go back but maybe pack some earplugs as the church bells strike throughout the night!

Fantastic, homely cottage. We didn't want to leave! The cottage is in a great location, with lots of family things to do within a short drive. Bewilder wood was fantastic, we spent the whole day there. Heather was very helpful, letting us know of places to go. Can't wait to go back!

From the Owner

I bought the adjacent house in 1986 when my work moved me out of London to the ‘wilds of Norfolk’. I chose Loddon for its easy access to Norwich and relatively (compared with North Norfolk) easy access to London and my friends and family. Loddon looked as if it was big enough to have a decent range of amenities and potential friends, but small enough to be able to reap the benefits of living in the country. Sailing is my key ‘sport’ so the river was a real bonus. Initially friends and family visited out of their concern that I must feel lonely……at the end of the weekend, they would ask to book another, and find that my diary was pretty full! My work moved back to London in 1992, but my home stayed here as I had happily ‘dug in ‘ to Loddon. When Tyno came on the market it had to be bought!

From the Owner

You can walk from one end to the other of Loddon in 10 minutes – and Tyno is bang in the middle. Guests are always commenting on how friendly the local traders and inhabitants are. The kitchen in Tyno is pretty comprehensive, but Loddon currently boasts 4 pubs (3 with food and the other allows you to take a T’away in) 3 café/tea rooms, a full range of Takeaways: Kebab, Pizza, 2 Chinese, 2 Fish & Chips, Indian – that is also a restaurant). We are lucky to retain a butcher and 3 convenience shops (1 of which is a decent sized Coop). There is a Library,Post Office and Barclays Bank – and Tourist Info Office (Easter to October) Pacific Cruisers have day boats to hire, canoes are available in Bungay. If you have BT openzone - you have wifi access.
