Country House in Glenesk near Edzell, Scotland - The Perfect Country Escape Surrounded By Woods And Wildlife.

Courtyard House forms the NE side of an 18th Century courtyard complex. The courtyard itself is adjacent to The Burn Mansion House which was originally built in 1791 for General Lord Adam Gordon. The estate itself is full of historical and architectural interest and Courtyard House has its own unique story to tell. The property has 3 reception rooms, 3 bath/shower rooms, 6 bedrooms and a kitchen. It offers a spacious and centrally heated interior with many period features that reflect an early time when the building served as staff accommodation for the butler and chauffeur. The house is surrounded by ancient Beech woodland and grounds extending to nearly 200 acres. Gardens also ring the property and within this area is a tennis court, labyrinth, croquet lawn and putting green. Courtyard house is a very good base to explore the Highlands and eastern coast of Scotland. Royal Deeside is just 30 minutes away by car and there are extensive opportunities closer to home

Just spent a great 2 days/nights with family and friends ,place is amazing lots of space in cottage and grounds ,beautiful scenery,

We were there last year too and definitely going back!

The area of Glenesk and the Cairngorms attracts walkers, cyclists, anglers (Salmon fishing), bird watchers and many tourists with an interest in history.


The dramatic east coast of Scotland is just 30 minutes away by car. This is a coastline of great natural beauty with cliff top castles, rocky coves and wide sandy beaches. Wildlife abounds and there are many places to explore.


The Burn and Courtyard House are 2 hours by road from Edinburgh Airport and just 1 hour from the international airport at Aberdeen. Montrose railway station is on the main UK East Coast line from London and is just 25 minutes away. The main A90 trunk road between Dundee and Aberdeen is just 10 minutes from the estate and so you can escape without feeling cut off.


The historic and picturesque village of Edzell is just 1 mile to the south east - an easy 20 minute walk.

The nearby village of Edzell is well served and has a supermarket, shop, post office, butchers, garage, chemist, florist, golf club, medical centre, 3 tea rooms, 2 hotels and a castle. There are two whisky distilleries in the local area and many tourist attractions within easy reach.

  • Notes on accommodation: Even though Courtyard House is large and comfortable, more accommodation can be booked in the main mansion house. Moreover, the mansion house facilities such as the games room and tennis court can be used by those staying at Courtyard House. Salmon fishing is available on the estate and bikes can also be hired. Outside: The grounds and gardens cover 200 acres and are bounded by the spectacular North Esk river gorge. Guest at Courtyard House will have the freedom to explore and enjoy all parts of the estate. Utility Room: There is an iron and ironing board but the property is fully serviced. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: A full linen service is provided and each guest will have a bath sheet. Hand towels and bath mats are also available in the bathrooms. Linen and towels will be changed on an as required basis and at least every 3 days.
