House in Agay, Var, Provence Cote DAzur, France - Superb Location With Sea View, 5 Minutes Walk To Beach

The house is situated in a superb position about 200m from the Mediterranean sea, with the dramatic and colourful Esterel mountains behind. In five minutes on foot (or two minutes by car) you can reach the sandy beach and the shops and restaurants of the village of Agay. In summer months, there are opportunities for various watersports, and on Thursday mornings year-round the local open air market is in full swing. St Raphael is about 20 minutes drive and has many restaurants and shops, covered market, marina and crazy golf, boat trips along the coast and to St Tropez. The ancient town of Frejus, with Roman ruins and its mediaeval cathedral, is a further 10 minutes beyond St Raphael.

Coast/Beach:

150 metres (3 minutes' walk) down the hill to wide sandy beach. Numerous water sport activities available in summer (eg kayaking, windsurfing, boat trips). Along the coast within 20 minutes in either direction are a great variety of other beaches, sandy and pebbly, popular or secluded, and some good snorkelling off the rocks. At any time of year you can walk along the sentier littoral as far as St Raphael.

Travel:

Nice Airport: 75 minutes drive, mostly on the motorway.

11 hours driving from Calais, or 9 hrs from Paris.

Major railway station at St Raphael (20 minutes away); there is a local train from St Raphael to Cannes via Agay several times a day. It is therefore possible to reach the house by train from the airport, with a 20 minute walk.

Distances:

Agay village: 200m on foot; 500m by car.

West: St Raphael 15km; St Tropez 50km, Aix-en-Provence 125km. East: Cannes 25km; Nice 70km; Italy 100km.

Inland: Draguignan 40km; Gorges du Verdon 85km; Alps 150km.

Further Details:

For Art lovers: there are galleries of international significance in Cannes, Nice, Vence, Biot, Cagnes, St Tropez and more, including the homes of Renoir, Matisse and others.

For nature lovers: the Esterel provides fabulous walking opportunities, as do the hills and gorges inland, stretching back to the maritime Alps. The coast between Agay and Cannes includes almost the most beautiful (and the only remaining undeveloped) stretch of natural rocky coastline left in the Cote d'Azur.

The village of Agay has, besides the Thursday market, a tourist office, bank, post office, pharmacy, several cafes and restaurants, 2 small supermarkets and other groceries, shops for beach wear and beach kit, souvenirs etc. We like to use a small centre commercial at one end of the village where there is a great boulangerie & breakfast cafe (now with wifi access), supermarket, fishmonger, the laundry, and two or three restaurants.

Notes on accommodation: Please note the house is not a commercial buy-to-let; it's our own holiday house, built in the 1970s, which we are delighted to let others use. We would therefore request guests to look after the equipment and furnishings as if they were their own. Since we do not have a maintenance man coming in between visitors, we ask you please to let us know of any damage or breakages as soon as possible, so that we can inform the next guests. No pets or smoking, please. Outside: Private south-facing patio terrace (replaced in 2012) of about 40 sq m, with garden in front and to one side. Sun loungers and parasol available; chairs and a portable table can be brought outside from the salon. Utility Room: Understair walk-in cupboard includes washing machine, iron and table-top ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are available. The house will be cleaned before your arrival, and we expect visitors to leave it in a similar clean state for the next visitors. Alternatively a cleaner can be booked (in advance) for an extra 40 Euros. Other: Separate downstairs toilet with basin. Terrace shed contains sundry beach equipment (eg spades, mats), inflatable boats, parasols. (Beach towels not provided - please bring your own.)

Nice property, great views, good location.

This is a very nice house, tastefully decorated, with lovely views of the bay at Agay. The owners are keen to emphasise that this is their longstanding family home, which they are happy to share with their clients. From a holiday let perspective, though, I found the house had limitations. The kitchen is small, although reasonably equipped. The only toilet being downstairs is a nuisance, and could be difficult for the elderly and the very young at night. There is an esoteric selection of music and literature available, clearly reflecting the personal tastes of the owner. In this age, I did find the absence of wifi a frustration. That said, the house was very much as described, and the directions received from the owners were very clear and accurate and there was a lot of useful info within the house. The house was clean, well maintained, with a lovely terrace and pretty garden. Access to the property from the car park was up a flight of 37 steps, more than compensated by the great views of the bay.

Home from home with gorgeous views!

When we first arrived at this lovely property, one of my teenage sons said, "Wow, it feels like someone's home". He couldn't have put it better. This is obviously a well loved family home and we were very lucky to make it our home for a week.

The location is fabulous. Only a few minutes from the gorgeous beach, local shops and restaurants. Long Camp beach, or "Tikki Plage" is only a couple of minutes away in the car and very quickly became a family favourite. Our teenage sons also enjoyed Waterworld at Le Dramont, a huge inflatable obstacle course.

We did manage to leave the beaches for a day to go to Monaco, where we visited the palace, the aquarium and the marina, an unforgettable day out.

Nearly every evening was spent on the terrace, playing cards and watching the sun go down, the sea views from there and the main bedroom are superb.

We all loved our time in Agay and would not hesitate to go back again one day. PS If, like us, you enjoy reading, don't fill your suitcases with books (like we did), there are more than enough to read in this wonderful little house.

Fantastic Gem!

We had a great two week stay and wouldn't hesitate to return. Its a hidden gem of a place in what can be a hectic bustling Riviera!

The accommodation is relaxed and suitable for families. The addition of a wall mounted shower would be great but it wouldn't put us off from staying here again.

The view from the patio terrace and main bedroom is just stunning and a real delight to wake up to every morning. The beach is a mere 5 minutes walk down the hill and there are some lovely restaurants and shops along the front.

We loved the fact Agay was so relaxed, family friendly and generally quiet. Its a fantastic base to explore all along the coast and we had great day trips to Cannes, St Tropez and the Rothschilds villa in Saint jean cap ferrat.

Michael and Sue (the owners) were very helpful and attentive and I would certainly recommend staying here.

Great location, lovely property

Our family enjoyed a lovely week at the house. The views and location were wonderful. Nice and quiet location, but with easy access to the coast and all it offers. We will definitely return for another visit.

Wonderful view

We really enjoyed a week in Agay. The house is simply furnished but very practical with 2 decent sized bedrooms.It is ideally located with a fantastic view of the sea from the house and sunny terrace and only a short walk (max 5 mins) to the beach and the shops / restaurants etc just a little further on. We hardly used our car as everything was so close. The sea was very warm - great for swimming and snorkeling.

Delightful Holiday Cottage

We had a fantastic 2 week holiday. The cottage was all as described. Well maintained and organised. Clean and comfortable throughout. Owner very helpful when we had any questions. Would benefit from a couple of good quality relaxing garden chairs and an extra fan but we were there during a heatwave. We hope to return again as there are some beautiful places still to visit. This was our second holiday to the area and we want to go again. Great for families. Enjoy!
