Beech Cottage is situated on the outskirts of two villages Wellow and Shoscombe, both approx 1 mile away. Wellow has the Fox and Badger public house with good food, and the Apple Tree at Shoscombe. Wellow Trekking Centre is a very popular activity for all the family. There is also the village of Peasedown St John that has a chemist, baker's petrol station, butcher's, Tesco express and a Co-op. Located in the owner's property, Beech cottage has its own private area. There is a large shared drive with ample parking. The south west has many attractions to offer and Beech Cottage is ideally situated to visit them all. There is the cathedral city of Wells, the vibrant city of Bristol, Longleat, to name a few. Bath, the world heritage site, is the main attraction with its Georgian architectural buildings, museums and the only natural hot thermal spa in Britain.
Hello, we are Lee & Chris Martin, we have lived in this area for almost 40yrs. I work in the hospitality trade; Lee is a carpenter/ builder although semi retired. Lee has professionally converted our out-building into a high specification holiday cottage. We have been up and running now for over two years. The reviews we have received have been amazing and we have enjoyed welcoming all of our guests, and look forward to meeting future guests. We have a border terrier called Dylan. Our two sons have grown and flown the nest.
Liam & Chris Martin purchased this cottage in 1980
We brought this derelict property and renovated it while living in a caravan with our two boys. We love this area and only moved a short distance from our previous home to live here.
We enjoyed the challenge of the project and there was plenty of scope to expand.
We love the fact that we can be in the bustling city of Bath by a short drive, and we have the rolling countryside on our doorstep. The perfect balance for us.
"Beautiful location, one of the best cottages we've ever come across, immaculately decorated and furnished" Jim & Ann Dignan South Yorkshire. June 2013
"We feel truly blessed to have found such a special place, a warm welcome, we loved it, we will be back" Martin, Mary, Bridie & Connor. West Yorkshire July 2013
What a truly wonderful holiday cottage this is! We have just returned from a week's stay and have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Somerset. Beech cottage is surely one of the best letting experiences we have had, from the moment we stepped inside. A generous welcome pack was waiting from the owners and everything was immaculate in presentation. The craftsmanship that has gone into the design of the cottage is fabulous and every inch of space utilised to the best advantage. As I wrote in the visitor's book, if I owned a holiday cottage, I would want it to be just like this one. Knowing how fussy I am, I couldn't think of a better compliment! Wholehearted thanks, Chris and Liam, for your efforts in providing a unique and beautiful place to stay.
Had a 4 night stay here for my sisters 30th birthday. This is the best cottage we have ever stayed in! The owners were very welcoming and the welcome pack and birthday card were very much appreciated. Everything needed was provided and all was extremely clean. Ideal location for visiting Bath. Managed to visit the Wookey Hole Caves, Roman Baths, Fashion Museum, American Museum in Britain and Cheddar Gorge. Would without a doubt recommend this cottage to those looking for a quiet getaway and we hope to stay here again ourselves.
The property is perfect in every way. The hospitality of the owners fantastic. Welcome pack on arrival of freshly made bread, jam, all the essentials including wine and chocolates. Nothing is too much trouble. It is a home from home, perfectly situated to tour bath and the surrounding areas and sites of great historical value and leisure, fun activities for the children.
We enjoyed our stay here no end, would and probably will return again at some future date.

Situated just south of the city of Bath, down a quiet country lane, Beech Cottage lies adjacent to and within the shared communal grounds of Primrose Cottage owned by Chris and Liam. This was not a problem in fact the owners were more than welcoming, allowing visitors to feel at home while staying here. Nothing is too much trouble. There was more than enough space to park directly outside the cottage and sufficient space for turning.
Upon arrival at Beech Cottage, we were greeted with a sumptuous welcome pack including a freshly baked loaf of bread –all unexpected but greatly appreciated and consumed without objection.
The cottage was clean throughout, with central heating in each room and a wood burner stove in the through lounge/diner/kitchen with an unending supply of logs from Liam and Chris for those cosy nights in. Plenty of utility and sundry essentials, including dustpan and brush and hoover and a dishwasher and washing machine, in case needed. Could do with a tumble dryer though!
The service received throughout our stay from Chris and Liam was top notch, nothing was too much trouble we couldn’t have hoped for better hosts and they are always on hand for your every need.
The cottage and its facilities were immaculately hand crafted by Liam and Chris – all the wood work throughout the cottage was carved and crafted by Liam’s fair hands and it creates a truly individual and sumptuous feel to the whole experience.
The HD/SKY TV, Radio and DVD player provided alternative entertainment to the numerous board games provided by Chris and Liam.
The bedrooms were comfortable and warm, one with double bed and one with zip double /twin beds and splendid en-suite facilities.
The grounds around the cottage include ample parking for two cars and a gated patio/BBQ area and a large lawn edged with shrubs leading to the open countryside. Below the Cottage, lies Primrose Cottage where Liam and Chris live with Dylan (their dog) and the numerous huge fish they have in the large pond between the two cottages.
A great place to locate yourself for exploring Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, all within a couple of hours drive, Bath is also easily accessible!
A must is the recommended the local Somerset cider pub crawl from Chris and Liam, around the local hostelries! Stunning quite literally!! Norton St. Philip is a must see! http://georgeinnnsp.co.uk/home
I dare you to be disappointed!
The booking process the wonderful welcome, the log burner, little touches on arrival, the cleanliness, the location, the beautiful interior - this place is without doubt one of the nicest self catering places we have stayed in! The photos just do not do it justice! Be prepared to have your expectations exceeded. We loved it. We wanted to get away from it all and Beech Cottage ticked all the boxes! You will not be disappointed. We loved the open plan layout and the cosy lounge area with the roaring wood burner especially on Sunday morning with a cuppa and a book. Magical and so relaxing. Thank you Chris and Liam for creating such a great cottage 😀
We only stayed for two nights but its was a prefect break. The cottage is beautiful and spotless. It so clean but very homely at the sametime. When we arrived we have home made bread the fire was on ready for us. I would like to say a massive thank you for letting us stay is was a wonderful break and we will be back next so we can really enjoy Bath. Lisa, Shane, Matt and Mand
