Talland House and Laity

The house is situated in a quiet street in the centre of Polperro and is just round the corner from the historic harbour, shops, restaurants and pubs. The famous House on Props restaurant which overlooks the harbour (highly recommended for their delicious cream teas and cakes) is next door. The river Pol runs along the rear of the property.

Ideal. The location is superb. The accomodation has all you need and plenty of character.

Laity can be found down the very narrow Talland Street. Part of it is bellow street level and you go down into the cottage/apartment via three steps. A spacious lounge - dinner is very comfortable, the kitchen is a good size as is the bed room. There is a bathroom with shower over the bath. The river runs directly under the bedroom window creating a relaxing sound to sleep to. Laity is 500 years old and as such it can feel damp and cold however the heating soon sorts that out. The location is ideal unless you expect to park your car right outside. Parking is half a mile away and the hill is very steep. We parked up on the first day and didn't use the car again until the last.

Step out of the door and you are right in the heart of Polperro by the harbour with a very short walk to the sea and the Three Pilchards pub where the Fish and Chips has to be eaten to be believed. There are other pubs on with Sky Sport, but the Pilchards was the best.

It's not a beach holiday and it's not for children but it suited us perfectly.

Hopefully going back when we can.

Owner's Response: The start of our property details you were sent states the following: "Important note: The most important thing is that you enjoy your stay. If there is anything that needs attention while you are our guest please let us know. This is for your benefit and future guests." Did you not read that or understand it?? You stayed 6 nights and choose to put this information in a review rather than let us address the issues. I find this not only unhelpful but also plain rude. If you were unhappy with Laity (there was little you liked) why did you stay after the first night? I do not live there and rely upon the cleaners and they do not notice everything in the limited time they have. If anything further or specific needs doing then we have to be told. This not only affected your stay but you have not helped us or our current guests. As to your point about the lounge decorating, this is always ongoing, We have just had a leak affecting part of the wall. We are replacing the plaster with more natural materials and carried out some of that earlier this year. Unfortunately it is not the type of property that you can just emulsion. That has been used in the past and causes more problems. It is so easy to criticise but feedback would have been polite.and helpful.

Pollpero has everything going for it, walks, sea, history and Laity is a lovely, romantic place to stay. Very helpful proprietors and good value on our February visit.

Fabulous stay in Laity in Polperro

  • 2 of 5

Second year running staying in this gem of a cottage, and another fabulous week in Polperro. Just feels like home when you walk through the door, so relaxing. Thank you for another great holiday in Laity - we will be back!

Just back from a wonderful week in Polperro with my Husband and 13 year old son. We stayed in Laity Apartment, could not have asked for a better accommodation or location.we were met by the lovely housekeeper, who couldn't have been more helpful. The property is very quirky and not what we usually go for, but really loved the experience. The four poster bed was lovely and the most comfortable Holiday bed we have slept in, and even more special was the waking up to the sound of the running stream outside the windows in the morning. The property was in a fantastic location, central for all village shops, pubs, restaurants, boat trips and coastal walks. Recommend The House on the Props for breakfast and cream teas. Polperro is a beautiful hidden away fishing village and we will definitely be returning again hopefully soon. Thank you very much for letting us stay at Laity.

My husband and I stayed for one week at Laity, in Polperro, we just did not want to leave!! The accommodation was ideally located for us, literally about 10 steps from the harbour! And the next door neighbours were nice and friendly! Great restaurants and pubs near to Laity and a fab corner shop only a few doors away! We would definitely stay at Laity again!
