Villa Tripoli is a stunning Umbrian property located three kilometres from charming medieval walled village of Porano and only 15 minutes away from Orvieto. Villa Tripoli’s spacious, century-old stone country home and cottage have been carefully restored with quality materials, attention to detail, and an artistic eye. The house retains the charm of an old Umbrian farmhouse (terra cotta floors, beamed ceilings, arched entryways), while having modern conveniences (wifi, etc). The buildings and large private swimming pool are set on four acres surrounded by rolling agricultural and forest land that yield lovely vistas and complete privacy. Visitors have exclusive use of the property during their stay at Villa Tripoli. What sets Villa Tripoli apart is its overwhelming sense of peace and tranquillity. Nestled in pastoral countryside, but with easy access for day trips to the historic, artistic and cultural sites of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio, Villa Tripoli offers the best of all worlds.
The owner has worked in environment and international development for over 30 years. The villa is a testament to this with its fine ethnic art and textiles collected from Africa, Asia and Latin America. The owner's interests in Italian ceramics, gardening and cooking are also evident at Villa Tripoli.
Susan purchased this villa in 2005
I chose to buy a property near Orvieto because the town is very beautiful, has layers of history and tradition, is culturally very active, and has wonderfully friendly people. Orvieto is only an hour by train or an hour and 15 minutes by car from Rome. The countryside to the west of Orvieto, with its rolling hills and altiplano; olive groves, vineyards, and pastures; castles, villas and picturesque villages, is particularly lovely.
Villa Tripoli is a place of calm and beauty. It is a refuge from today's hectic pace: a place to unwind; breathe fresh air; and enjoy beautiful pastoral countryside. Although only 3 km from the charming medieval walled village and 15 minutes from Orvieto, its secluded location gives it a timeless quality and imparts an overwhelming sense of peace and well-being. The villa is centrally located for easy day visits to the many tourist attractions of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, sailing and canoeing nearby. Ceramic shopping, wine tasting, cooking classes, concerts and local festivals are other local options. Orvieto hosts Umbria Jazz, Winter between Christmas and New Years and the Corpus Christi celebration in May/June.
I can’t imagine a more perfect vacation. I have enjoyed every moment at Villa Tripoli – the gorgeous flowers, intoxicating scents of jasmine and linden blossoms, tinkling of the sheep as they cross the hills, outstanding collection of art and the colors of nature brought inside the house.
A stunning blend of design, charm and beauty. A place where agriturismo meets Architectural Digest.
Returning to Villa Tripoli after our vacation here last year was like coming back to a good old friend who makes you smile the moment you see her. Celebrating my 45th birthday here was a very special treat. There was no better setting than Villa Tripoli, with her beauty, serenity and amazingly peaceful atmosphere, for this very special celebration.
The photos on the website do not do it justice. The house is beautifully situated in the Umbrian countryside with sweeping views across the valley. All the rooms in the villa are large, very comfortable and decorated to a very high but unfussy standard. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need. Outside, the extensive gardens have many different areas to sit or for the children to play. The pool was crystal clean for the whole week. We felt that the villa has the best aspects of the best places we had stayed in over the past 15 years - it really is wonderful.
Susan will make sure you have everything you need and provides details on the various activities in the region.
Our stay in Villa Tripoli was truly amazing. We spent two weeks there together with our families and it was a huge hit both with the kids and the adults. The property is located in a very serene area and all of us just fell in love with it. Unlike many other villas we looked at renting, Villa Tripoli has a special vibe and a homey feeling (which made it very hard to leave). We also had the pleasure of hosting our wedding celebration at the villa together with both American and Swedish friends. All our guests were just blown away by the beauty of the place and Susan was so accommodating and nice. We are eternally grateful to her and her crew and we will surely carry this experience with us for the rest of our lives, and hope to return one day for more memories.
Villa Tripoli is simply perfect. It is not your average rustic villa . Villa Tripoli sits in it's own perfectly maintained grounds and enjoys beautiful views. Inside the kitchen is extremely well equipped and the bathrooms are stunning. It is beautifully decorated throughout. The pool is amazing while the separate cottage provides excellent separate accommodation. Susan is just the best host ever. She was responsive from our first enquiry and provided invaluable information and help throughout our stay. It was an honour to stay in such a uniquely beautiful house in a stunning area of Italy.
