This gorgeous holiday home has a huge, open plan living, kitchen and dining room, 4 spacious bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. The property is lovingly furnished, with great attention to detail.
Finca Shambala is peacefully rural, yet only a short distance of 2km from Estacion de Cártama, a lively pueblo with plenty of traditional shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets. It is an ideal location situated only 20 minutes from Malaga, Churriana beach and the airport.

Wonderfully relaxing break
We were a group of 6 friends and what we all loved about this property was that it felt like a home from home rather than a rental. The decor is lovely and the kitchen has absolutely everything we needed to cook meals for a large group. Juliette, one of the owners, was on hand to make sure we knew where everything was and check everything was working. The property is in a lovely location - a bit of a walk into town, but only 5 mins by car. It's not quiet at night with all the various wildlife, but incredibly restful by day. We loved being on the outside terraces and cooling down in the pool, which by late afternoon is almost like a bath with the sun on it. We had a great time and are looking forward to returning next year.
Perfect family break
What a lovely space, airy and bright. Delightful location at the end of a rural valley with stunning views back to the ancient town of Cartama and the church above it - lit up at night it is a stunning backdrop for a late night drink on the decking.
The house is large and clean with everything you could need. Location is superb and you can swiftly get to any of the Costa Del Sol beaches... there are loads to choose from.
But there are plenty of other great places to visit - the Lakes at El Chorro are a must and a terrific day out for the family. Local restaurants are excellent and cheap or there are supermarkets and lots of local shops if you prefer to cook.
Would be delighted to find myself here again in the future.
This beautiful house is situated in a valley with breathtaking views to wake up to every morning. 5 mins to Cartama and 20mins to the beach...it's rural but still near to shops and restaurants... it was perfect !! We had an amazing time here and didn't want to leave. we could let the kids run around in the spacious grounds and know that they were safe.There were many places to discover nearby especially the El Chorro Lakes. These should not be missed and are not far away. The house is great for larger groups too as there are plenty of places to sit outside to eat, drink and soak up the scenery. It's got everything you need and the owners were amazing. Highly recommended. We will definitely go back.
Great family holiday home
We stayed for 2 weeks during the summer with our 3 children and the space was ideal for families, the open plan kitchen/ living area and outdoor shaded terrace made meal times heavenly. The kitchen was very well equipped, there were lots of games, toys, books and dvds for all ages. With the beach being only a 20 minute drive away, it was the perfect spot to come back to after a day out. I will miss relaxing on the deck admiring the beautiful views across the valley, especially at sunset. Cartama is a really nice village with a good selection of restaurants, tapas bars and shops. We would definitely recommend this place to our family and friends.
They had everything we needed. Baby cot, high chair, wood burner, beautiful tranquil garden, even the kitchen was pretty well equipped. Would come again with more friends next time!!
Bit of a let down
Unfortunately this property was a let down. We had a winter holiday, and when we arrived, the property hadn't been prepared for our arrival; it was freezing cold - logs for the wood burner weren't there as promised, one of the two radiators was broken, and when we did manage to find some blankets, they were covered in hairs and in need of a good wash.
The property was in need of a clean, the bathroom was dirty, bedlinen was tired and stained, and we found dead insects. The front door was broken so our security was a padlock and chain.
Due to unforseen circumstances, the owner wasn't there for our arrival, so had arranged for a friend to open up. He understandably had no idea of how anything in the property worked, there was no guide, so we were left to figure it all out. The tv didn't work (despite the advert stating this plus sky tv) and the fuses continually tripped when the washing machine was used.
The rural nature of this property appealed to us, but be aware of the deeply rutted dirt road to the property if you are in a hire car. Be prepared for the local dogs barking throughout the night.
Whilst it was easy to book this rental, it was difficult to rectify problems whilst we were there, and the idea of "customer service" was lacking.
On a positive note, there is a lovely outdoor section for eating and beautiful views from the garden.
Overall, likely a once loved family home, now in need of TLC to bring it up to a standard suitable for private rental.

“We extended what was my mother's home for 10 years into our beautiful family home and lived there for 3 years before relocating. Having travelled and lived extensively in various places around the world, we have brought in some aspects from our travels and designed our house in a way that we thought worked best for families. The huge open plan living/ kitchen /dining area works well. We believe the heart of the home is always in the kitchen. We have recently added lots of furnishings and pieces from Asia and think our Finca is a good representation of us. We do hope you'll enjoy staying at Finca Shambala as much as we did and continue to visit us every year.”

The nearest beach to Finca Shambala is Churriana beach. Not as crowded as the beaches closer to Malaga or Marbella, Churriana beach is well known for its cleanliness, friendly beach cafés, free use of showers and wonderful seafood restaurants.

Malaga: Well worth a trip to see the old town, Picasso Museum, shops and restaurants. You can take the train from Cartama Estacion which takes about 15 mins and saves you paying and searching for parking.
Ardales Lakes: make a great day trip with cool swimming, kayaking and pedlos.
El Chorro: Rock climbing, hiking and the amazing Gorge, makes this another great day out. The film Von Ryan’s Express (Frank Sinatra, Trevor Howard) was filmed here in El Chorro.

Further Afield: Tarifa: a kite surfing haven with funky bars, restaurants and shops. You can also take a 35 min ferry ride to Tanger
Gibraltar, Ronda, Granada, Sierra Nevada, Nerja, Cadiz, and Cordoba, and even Portugal are all possible by train or car in a day.

- Notes on accommodation: We can arrange pick ups from the airport however, we recommend that you hire a car. Depending on your group, although we have 4 double bedrooms, extra mattresses for children are available if needed. Outside: The house is surrounded by gardens with many fruit and flowering trees. Pick some fresh oranges or figs for breakfast. Parasols and loungers by the pool area make sunbathing a joy in the tranquility of rural life. Use our new BBQ area for lunch or dinner and there is a large fenced (great for toddlers) terrace with an outdoor dining table and a sink. Around the corner you can enjoy the sunset while relaxing in a hammock on the shaded wooden deck. Children will enjoy playing football or badminton on the lawns or simply exploring the wonderful nature of the gardens. The whole area makes for great walks with hardly any cars or people, you may come across some horses, goats, plenty of birds and a wide array of wild plants and flowers. Utility Room: Washing machine, ironing board and iron Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. If you wish to have the house cleaned while on holiday, we can make this arrangement for a reasonable fee. Other: Chill out and relax in numerous areas outside to not be on top of each other. Outdoor dining area is perfect for breakfast/dinner. Afternoon loungers by the pool and our comfortable shaded deck, perfect for your siesta or aperitif with stunning sunsets.
