Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an absolutely lovely weekend, and it was perfect for our family gathering. The house is beautiful and none of us wanted to leave. And it’s so beautifully furnished and all the little finishing touches were lovely – from the baskets of blankets, basket of towels (what a good idea), all the knickknacks and ornaments, toys for the younger ones, to the basket of provisions left for us (particularly the bottle of wine – much appreciated!) The garden is a lovely size for us all, and the provision of loads of garden furniture with lots of cushions (and the hammock) was all greatly appreciated too. June 2013

Just to let you know that we had a wonderful wedding and that house was absolutely super – beautifully appointed and much appreciated by the whole family. Once again thank you for providing the perfect accommodation. September 2013

The small village of Horton is perfectly placed with easy access to the New Forest, the spectacular beaches of the Dorset Coast, and Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge and Shaftesbury to the north. Outside: There is a private fenced garden to the rear with a large paved area and sufficient garden furniture to seat 12 to eat, a barbecue and fire pit. The flat lawn is ideal for a game of croquet or (for the more energetic) badminton. The garage provides secure storage for bicycles. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, iron, ironing board and sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels included but we do not provide cot bedding. The house is cleaned on changeover. If you are staying for 2 weeks we will give you a second set of bedding and, if you request, the house can be cleaned for you at the end of your first week.

Great property for family get together

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely house, beautifully fitted, with loads of space and in a great location, peaceful and spectacular views across the surrounding fields and close to many places of interest. We visited the New Forest, Wimborne Minster and Salisbury, and that was all in one day. The enclosed garden makes it perfectly safe for the very young. My only two criticisms are that it was hard to get enough air into the house (we realize the weather just before we arrived had been very warm, but there are stop mechanisms on many of the windows which prevents them opening fully), and the garden furniture could have been in more usable condition! Otherwise I would have no hesitation in recommending it for a very happy family stay.

Great family location

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely property ideal for large family groups. It is furnished to a very high standard and having the enclosed garden allows for everyone to enjoy the outdoor experience, the badminton became very competitive. Good location with easy access to a lovely part of the country. Would highly recommend.

Extremely disappointed

  • 1 of 5

If you do choose this barn to stay in be prepared to walk around on egg shells and not move one item (it's really not suitable for families with children under the age of 10).

I agree with the comments from the family who gave two stars that the cleaning costs are ridiculous, this owner is being taken for a ride by the cleaners (although she thinks she isn't).

I would suggest that if you are going to rent this barn to take pictures of every room before and after so you have proof of where everything needs to be put back and the state it's left in.

We have NEVER had any issues with any other house and wish we had never rented the barn. We again received half the deposit back. I have never given bad feedback before and although we read the review of the disgruntled family we decided to take a chance.

Be warned!

Owner's Response: We value guest feedback. However, when reading this review, it may assist prospective guests to know the detail of the deduction from the deposit (which was approximately £100), to enable them to put it in context. The guests had allowed their children to use felt tip colouring pens on the beds. The marks came out of most of the bed linen, but we had to replace one duvet cover, which remained marked after professional cleaning. Wine stains and further pen marks were removed the sofas and side tables. A wine stained throw had to be cleaned and the kitchen had to be given a deep clean. We appreciate that children move items around the house, and this is generally not an issue, but if a large number of items from upstairs are moved downstairs and visa versa, it takes additional time for the cleaners to sort that out, so the next guests find the house in the same condition as the departing guests found it. As you will see from the other reviews over the past four years, we have had many delighted visitors, and several groups who return on a regular basis.

Fantastic holiday accommodation

  • 5 of 5

This barn is in a great location, being close to the New Forest, and not too far from the Jurassic coast as well as other popular destinations. It is spacious, well equipped, spotless, well-maintained and beautifully furnished, and is a wonderful space in which to relax. I would recommend this property to friends and family and hope to return in the near future.

Fantastic and spacious house

  • 5 of 5

This is a fantastic house. It's well-equipped, comfortable, attractively furnished, spacious and spotlessly clean. The bathrooms are all modern and well maintained with great showers and the kitchen/dining room is enormous and a wonderful entertaining space.

We had a wonderful Christmas here and I hope to book again in the future.

I cannot recommend this house highly enough.

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautifully furnished, spotless and very comfortable. The layout means that even when it is fully occupied you can still find a quiet place to read. The kitchen is huge and really well equipped which makes cooking easy and fun. The two master bedrooms are palatial and feel like you are in a 5 star hotel. The house has everything you need from books, maps and DVDs to outdoor furniture, games and a barbecue.

Horton itself is very quiet and peaceful and yet with easy reach of loads of places to visit and things to do. We enjoyed an action packed day at the nearly Moors Valley Country Park. Wimborne is just a 10 minute drive away and has great coffee shops and a good supermarket.

We had a really good three generation holiday staying here and look forward to returning soon.
