Hillside Cottage is a modernised Cornish cottage in the tiny hamlet of Trethias, 10 minutes walk across fields to the beach Treyarnon Bay. Located deep in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is secluded but with lovely views over from every window of both bay and surrounding fields. Described as a tardis inside it is light and calm, spacious and lovely. Outside decking leads out to a pretty and enclosed garden and round the corner in a hot-tub command great views following the stream down to the Bay.

Lovely home, tasteful and equipped to high standard with Wi-Fi broadband; telephone land line, Sonos and 4 flat-screen televisions with free-view.

The kitchen dining room is happy and accommodating (table seats up to 12) - as is the lounge; the beds are large and deeply comfortable.

All four bedrooms are again big with stunning views, three have king or super king-size beds; two have en suites bath/shower rooms and downstairs is a family bathroom; - the fourth bedroom has two single beds. The cottage sleeps 8 but also offers a cot for a baby.

A sunny enclosed garden allows great BBQ's and outdoor eating on the decking.

Or simply watching the sun-set on the beach from the privacy of the Hot-tub.

10 minutes easy walk to the beach either across fields or using the road (village road only into Treyarnon)

The Youth Hostal on Treyarnon Bay does simple food and opens its friendly bar for local beers, ciders and music, everyone welcome including your dog.

Wonderful surfing at Treyaron beach, a large sandy cove with rock pools, surfing and the natural sea swimming pool.

Easy to join the South West Coastal Path and walk to Constantine Bay, Porthcothan and further round to Padstow.

Golf on the lynx course at Trevose Golf Club at Constantine is half a mile away and walking distance; St Merryn with its shops and pubs are a short walk 20 minutes across the tops of the hills, again with lovely views to Padstow and the sea.

Ideal for families of all ages or enthusiasts of walking, bird-watching or golf, surfers, friendship groups and cyclists.

About Katie Goodall

My husband and I live in the New Forest where we both work in the Medical profession. We started camping in Cornwall when our children were all small and decided that a cottage was the best way to visit this beautiful coastline in the winter. We bring our dog, walking boots, wet-suits and bikes but spend the first two days relaxing with a glass of wine and the binoculars, - we don't care about the weather, the more wild the better! To come in to the serenity of Hillside is something we never tire of. Our children love it too as the surfing culture has universal appeal, they tell us a Hot Tub is essential and they sign up to whatever we do!

We were so lucky to find this lovely up market conversion of a simple Cornish Cottage enabling us to winter escape and admire real stormy seas as well as offering surfing appeal and beach for the children. It is relaxing. It has the feeling of space and privacy with lovely views back, front and over fields to the sea. We have made it comfortable and charming. People have said that when they are staying there they don't want to leave to go out, they prefer to enjoy the place with its peace, eat out on the decking overlooking the garden and fields and watching the sun setting over the Bay. We love it and so do the guests.

As it is lovely having the dog with us.

Peaceful, easy, spacious, comfortable, interesting. Wonderful for family and friends, easy walking to the sea, fabulous views. New addition of a secluded Hot tub means a real treat for celebrations.

This property is a credit to the owners everything has been well thought out. We lo ed everything about it. The bedding and towels where what you would get in a five star hotel, It"s perfect for two families and you dont feel on top of each other because of the size of the rooms. There was tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a fresh butter cream sandwich in the lovely kitchen diner.

Notes on accommodation: Cream carpet throughout. Tasteful decoration, superbly comfortable. WI-FI and broadband, land line (no mobile phone reception). One dog allowed - not upstairs. Peaceful, private, not over-looked - big windows with views to bay. 10 minutes walk to beach. Outside: Weber charcoal BBQ; wooden table with sun umbrella, benches, chairs and sun loungers (2) stored in outside room under lounge. Outside tap and electricity. Decking from lounge commands fits the outdoor table. Huge views over field to sea, best place to watch the owls swoop against the back-drop sunset. Utility Room: Washing machine; tumble dryer; iron and board; airer; pegs; hoover; bucket and mop; baskets for shoe storage. Boiler. Dog sleeps here, floor is warm from pipes. Door to kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Property is cleaned at change over; fresh linen supplied and beds changed at end of week if required. Any extra can easily be arranged. Other: All bedrooms have a TV and DVD player; double bedrooms have a hair-dryer. Master bedroom has a king sized bed, other two double bedrooms have super king sized beds. There are singl beds in the children’s room and a cot if needed.

Spacious cottage - ideal for groups of friends

The layout of this property with its generous room sizes and three bathrooms made it ideal for our long weekend with friends. The house was clean and welcoming with lots of attention to detail. The kitchen, for instance, is very well equipped, which made self-catering very easy. Lovely to be able to walk to the beautiful beach or take walks along the coastal path without having to get in the car. Enjoyed the refreshments at the hostel by the beach. A great find. We hope to be back!

Very Happy at Hillside

Love Hillside, stayed here for several years all age groups love it and the hot tub was an added bonus. Very clean and everything you need will be there home from home amazing large beds. Nice and near beach and Padstow which we love. Great Holiday went to quick.

A true rural retreat

Stayed as a large family with grandchildren, this house is fantastic, and so well planned. It caters for every need. Excellent accommodation and comfy beds, lovely hot water and heat and plenty of space for a large family - the area is spectacular. Can't wait to return.

Well equipped and comfortable cottage

This cottage was just what we needed for our family pre-Christmas get together. Much bigger inside than it seems from the outside with everything we needed and easy walking distance to the sea - a must for us when in Cornwall.

Lovely place to stay

When we arrived there was milk in the fridge and a lovely orange drizzle cake waiting for us, after a long drive this was a welcome sight! The house was lovely, clean and well maintained. The hot tub was a real treat! One morning we were treated to a display of wildlife with a Barn Owl hunting, deer running through the field and pheasants running around!

We had a great time.

Car: necessary


Treyarnon Bay is walked in 10 minutes. Drive time is 3 minutes to the beach car-park. The beach is dog friendly and offers great surfing; coves and rock pools with a stream and a large natural sea pool for swimming in when the tide is out. The sand is smooth and expansive, suitable for many beach games and bbq. YHA flagship Hostal on the cliff provides homecooked meals, local beer and cream teas. Incredible walks to Porthcothan and Constantine Bays.


Padstow is 15 minutes by car, Wadebridge 25 minutes; Bodmin 40 minutes

Further Details:

St Merryn: 20 minutes walk across the tops of the fields; pubs include Cornish Arms (Rick Stein) and others of great value; fish and chips at Fryer Tucks (prepare to queue!), delicatessen and small store; Surfing and wet suit hire; post office and garage; Nins for the perfect traditional breakfast, cream tea or lunch

Constantine (15 minutes good walk round the coast or inland on the roads)has a really imaginative general store with local cheeses, clotted cream and home-made puddings - next door to the surfing shop with lots of info; Trevose Golf and Country Club (Golf, tennis, swimming restaurant) 5 minute further on by foot; lovely hotel Treglos with pool, beauty treatments and restaurant.

Padstow is 15 minutes by car; great restaurants and all shops - luxury to functional; a variety of pubs and cafes, fishing harbour-side activity with excursions, cycle hire along the Camel Trail to Wadebridge; Rick Stein everywhere, many other restaurants of superb quality. Walk the Coastal Path; explore beautiful and precipitous Port Isaac; watch for migrating birds on the Camel estuary; spend the day at Wadebridge, a lovely town with cinema and specialist butcher; explore the tin mines (World Heritage Site) at St Agnes; National Trust Lanhydrock or the steam train or jail at Bodmin; King Arthur at Tintagel as well as an active archaeological dig for Roman ruins; further afield to Truro (40 mins) which is charming or the famous Eden Project (50 minutes).

Cleaning Fees:
These are for the house, provision of all linen; and weekly cleaning and water balancing by the hot-tub maintenance company.

Booking Notes:
Short breaks of 4 days min accepted in low season weeks from during October to May - prices on enquiry. Payment consists of the deposit of 40% of price of stay plus Security Deposit (refundable in full after holiday end against good order, breakages/loss, cleanliness) of £250. Balance due 6 weeks before start of holiday; cancellation after 4 weeks before holiday start non-refundable.
Dog x 1 cost £35 per week.
