Preaux du Perche, L'Orne, Southern Normandy, France - Private, peaceful location, 5 Minutes Walk To Village

see special offers in August. Large, elegant 19th century farmhouse, known as `La Basse Passiere', is set in a fabulous imposing courtyard surrounded by typical `percheron' farm outbuildings. There is a large garden ( with swings, trampoline and inflatable 12' pool- on request), and adjoining paddocks. There is a large outside dining table with chairs. This is a much loved second home, `shabby chic' in style, comfortable and well -equipped. Very spacious and light rooms, with large shuttered windows; full central heating ( mainly cast iron radiators), open fires, wood stove. Furnished and equipped as a home. The 4 bedrooms are all large; the two bathrooms are new; carpeted upstairs; traditional tiled floors downstairs. The kitchen is immense with its own walled courtyard with outside table and chairs; huge kitchen table and efficient wood stove; an adjoining sitting/ dining room with open fire; a large and light drawing room with open fire. At the back of the house is a scullery and cloakroom area with laundry. There is no shortage of storage space. Despite its size, this house is very well heated, with central heating on continuously during winter stays. There is stabling and grazing available for your own horses (by special arrangement) . The house is completely private with no overlooking properties, yet easy walking distance to the village, through a charming conservation park with a fishing lake, for your morning bread and croissants. The house is situated at the end of a no -through lane; outside the entrance gates you can set off along a pathway on foot, bicycle or horse to explore the surrounding countryside. The village has a boulangerie with grocery and restaurant where many musical events are held. Nearby there is the ancient presbytery and `eco-museum' of St Gauburge, which hosts community rural events throughout the year. The beautiful `Manoir de la Lubinere' is our nearest neighbour and can be seen from the garden. Le Perche Region is a unique conservation area, with its ancient cider apple orchards and pastures, Percheron heavy horses, meandering rivers and numerous fortified manoirs and chateaux. Rural markets, wonderful restaurants, fabulous walking, cycling and riding. The property is near to dynamic and beautiful towns, offering many holiday activities; canoeing, lakeside swimming with a man made beach, outdoor swimming pools; excellent restaurants. There are many local events and sites of interest in this rural but dymanic region. Le Jardin Francois- a beautifully laid out and peaceful garden retreat of international repute is 4 km away. Haras du Pin, famous stud farm with spectacular horse shows, 50 minute drive; Nogent le Retrou, at 8 km., is the nearest large town with a fabulous saturday market, and indoor and outdoor swimming pool and leisure centre. 20 minutes to a man made beach with swimming lake.1 hour to Le Mans with its famous car race; medieval town and - for children and adolescents- a fantastic high ropes park.Paris is a 1 1/2 hour train journey away, from Nogent le Retrou( a 10 minute drive).

Great house in a lovely area of France

I was looking for a property online that is big enough to spend my birthday with my family and is suitable for a holiday with a 6-month old puppy but still has a bakery nearby for our morning croissants. La Basse passiere was just what I imagined. A plus for us was that the owner, Jenny is English, so with our poor written French it was a lot easier to communicate. Jenny was very helpful leading up to the holiday, sent us lot of information to help prepare and even booked our puppy in with the local vet to get his treatment before the journey home.

When we arrived we were greeted by the local cleaning lady on behalf of the owner, and she had brought her english-speaking daughter which was helpful. The introduction to the house was straight forward and we were amazed at all the space; every time we opened a door or went round a corner there was another room!

The garden was huge, and pretty secure. All the facilities in the house worked, we even had to light the log burner in the kitchen one day when we got home from a wet dog walk, and that warmed us very effectively.

Talking of walking, the house is set aside from the village but a short walk on a footpath next to a pretty lake gets you to the boulangerie. Outside the gate is a green lane that heads up the hill behind the house, very suitable for short dog walks, with footpaths leading off the lane for longer rambles.

Our favourite room was the huge, exceptionally well equipped kitchen with a great dining table, the whole family could gather here to cook and chat or even just relax.

We didn't get to try the local restaurant in Preaux as it wasn't open a lot but we had the most amazing birthday dinner in the Moulin restaurant in Conde sur Huine, the food and the surroundings were beautiful (advance booking is required)

The area is beautiful and even if we were unlucky with the weather, we managed to visit beautiful little villages such as Belleme and I can highly recommend the lake in Ferte Barnard.

My family flew to Paris and after a train ride, we picked them up in Nogent le Retrou, and this was our go-to town for shopping and the market.

All in all, lovely experience, my family loved it and the puppy was in dog-heaven for his very first holiday.

We had a beautiful holiday in this house, it has a very nice ambiance and is very specious.

There are a lot of nice walks in Preaux du Perche and we have seen a lot of beautiful old villages and castles in the surrounding

Authentique ferme restaurée au coeur du Perche

Point de départ idéal pour partir à la découverte du Perche, la maison est spacieuse et confortablement meublée. Parfaitement située à l'extérieur du village, on y est au calme mais sans se sentir totalement isolé.Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour percheron.

Relaxed Christmas

We spent a very relaxed and enjoyable Christmas at Preaux du Perche. This was our second stay in the house - this time with friends and their small children. The large house was ideal - clean, warm, a well equipped kitchen for all our needs with a comfortable drawing room where we lit a wood fire everyday - very relaxing. The house is in an ideal location, very peaceful and rural with an easy walk to the village bakery which sold good unusual bread and fine pastries. Sadly the restaurant was closed for the Christmas period. We visited the nearby town Belleme which had a Christmas market and excellent supermarket. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to our next visit hopefully in the summer when we can use the outside facilities and go cycling. Highly recommend.

Perfect holiday farmhouse

Lovely comfortable and cosy house. Plenty of room for 4 adults. Clean and well furnished. We made delicious fruit crumble from apple trees, blackberries and plums from the garden. We visited Paris by train from Nogent le Rotrou and we drove to Monet's garden which is one and a half hours away by car. The local villages were beautiful. Would highly recommend this holiday house. Doyle family, Dublin and Wicklow.

Relaxing family holiday, undiscovered area.

Wonderful place, just as in the photos. Couldn't believe the space when we pulled up, inside and out. Lots of room for all of the family - just a few minutes walk to the village with very friendly boulangerie and small cafe. But no neighbours to disturb when the children were on the trampoline at 7am.

House is very comfortable, clean and well equipped, and good outside areas for sitting out, eating and barbequeing. Also can attempt a (slightly sloping) game of boules on the drive if you don't want to walk to the village boules area.

Lots to explore in the local area - Belleme forest and market, lake at Ferte Bernard, Le Mans museum etc. Highly recommended.
