Overview

Property

Updated: 10-Nov-2016
Apartment in Chatton, Nr. Wooler, Northumberland - A beautifully refurbished traditional apartment, well positioned for exploring Northumberland

This cosy beautifully presented apartment forms part of Tilery House, set on a hill overlooking the picturesque village of Chatton and the stunning Cheviot Hills. The property has been refurbished to a very high standard and guests can enjoy home from home comforts whilst being well positioned to explore all that Northumberland has to offer. For those visitors looking for relaxation, why not spend time relaxing in the living room watching the large variety of wildlife that visits the garden (over 100 different birds, deer, red squirrels and boxing hares). Alternatively for the more energetic, there are many walking and cycling routes on the doorstep, fishing at the nearby lake, tennis in Wooler or golf at the many local golf courses. All visitors will find that The Annexe has something to suit their needs. The local village of Chatton is a short walk away offering a post office, shop, church and the local pub, The Percy Arms.

About the Owner

Tilery House has been in the ownership of the Dickinson family since the early 1960's. The property was lovingly renovated from 2003 - 2007 so that we can continue to enjoy the benefits of living in Chatton. Positive comments from guests constantly remind us how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful & tranquil place. We have invested a huge amount of time, thought & effort into the renovation of Tilery House in an effort to retain the character & beauty of the property. Our love of natural materials such as stone, slate and oak have influenced both the interior and exterior of the property. Guests have commented upon the attention to detail.

The Annexe is a cosy home from home with lots of paintings hanging & high quality furnishings.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Annexe must be the nicest and cleanest accommodation we have ever stayed in. The cottage far exceeded our expectations. The comfort and equipment were excellent.

We have never been so close to wild birds that have been attracted to the bird feeders.

Probably the best shower we have had.

As usual fab holiday. Third year in a row. Hospitality from host fab as well. Look forward to next year.

Great area for cycling and walking - we've had a very active week. Thanks Gerald for help with the puncture.

BEAUTIFUL PLACE

  • 5 of 5

Tilery Cottage is a super place to stay. It has everything you need, the cleanliness is exceptionally good and the location is very good with Bamburgh, Seahouses and Alnwick very accessible. Gerald the owner is very friendly and has lots of local knowledge.

The views of the hills from the second floor sitting room was spectacular and we were lucky to witness some very fine sunsets. Lovely, lovely place to stay.

This is how to unwind completely

  • 5 of 5

First impressions were amazing, the cottage is equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need, every minute detail was catered for. (Even spare bulbs), perfectly clean and comfortable. The vista of the cheviots has to be seen to be believed. Private garden for guests. The birds that attracted to Gerald's numerous feeders are vast including a woodpecker.Gerald has thought of everything and will do anything to help. You could not ask for more. Within easy reach of the coast, the Cheviots and beautiful countryside. Excellent for dogs. He even provides pushbikes. We left clothing behind in error,.which Gerald has posted back. Home from home

  • 5 of 5

We loved our week in The Annexe. With it's oak doors and tasteful decoration and furnishing it felt very luxurious. We completely relaxed when we were there. One thing to consider for anyone with mobility problems is that the kitchen is on the ground floor, with the living room being upstairs.

It was perfect for us as a couple, and Spike the dog of course. The views out over the countryside are stunning, and watching the birds on the window feeders was a real treat. Gerald and Roz were very welcoming and helpful on our arrival. There are some good walks from there, be sure to go and find the cup and ring markings on the hill nearby. I also enjoyed walking down to watch the cricket. Generally it is a good location for exploring the coast and countryside. I highly recommend staying here.

Location

From the Owner

When the opportunity to buy Tilery House (& The Annexe) with its outstanding views arose, we snapped it up. The dream of living in a rural location with a huge variety of wildlife visiting the garden has surpassed our expectations. Last year we had over a hundred different birds including woodpeckers, nuthatch, tree creeper and various tits and finches, many feeding just outside the living room window. Owls, partridge, pheasants, boxing hares and occasionally deer visit the 1.5 acre garden. Walking to the pub in the village and standing on the old stone bridge, I have been fortunate enough to see otters. Walking home on a clear night you will definitely be treated to a velvety black star filled sky and if you are particularly lucky the uplifting sight of a shooting star.

Facilities

From the Owner

The beauty of The Annexe is its central location which enables guests to explore in a different direction every day, whether it be walking by a river in the National Park (4 miles away), cycling on deserted roads (we have bikes you can borrow), horse riding (beach rides are available locally), visiting castles, golden sandy beaches, National Trust properties, country houses, or walking in the Cheviots. There is fishing a very short walk away or I have a stretch of river in Wooler which you can use. Locally there are golf courses, tennis courts archaeological sites and much much more. Round your day off with a bar meal and head home to relax in the comfort of the Annexe. If you would like to go to a nightclub or rave, north Northumberland is probably not for you. Hope to meet you so
