About David Findlay

Originally from Yorkshire, I bought Jasmine House as a holiday home so as to be able to return for relaxing breaks from London. As these breaks are too infrequent, I decided to open up Jasmine House for the enjoyment of others needing a holiday in picturesque Sandsend, and so started doing holiday lets through Owners Direct

Jasmine House is located away from the road up a short passage. There is no dedicated parking at Jasmine House, but there is free parking on the road in-front of the Beach Hotel or a pay and display (but free in Winter) car park 50 metres from the passage to Jasmine House.

Less than 1 minutes walk to the beach, approximately 50 metres. The beach is predominantly sandy from Sandsend to Whitby, which is walkable at low tide. In the other direction, there are cliffs, boulders, rock pools and fossils. Access to the north along the beach is restricted above low tide. Surfing is popular from the beach in Sandsend and the beach itself is very popular with families, especially those with young children

Sandsend is 10 minutes drive from the centre of Whitby. It is approximately 50 miles from York via Pickering with a journey time of 1 hour 15 minutes. Scarborough is 45 minutes driving time to the south and Middlesborough approximately the same to the north. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway's steam trains periodically start and finish their journeys to and from Pickering in Whitby. National Rail services go north to Middlesborough from Whitby

Whitby 3 miles, Scarborough 25 miles, Middlesborough 27 miles, York 48 miles. Nearer by are Staithes 8 miles and Robin Hoods Bay 8 miles with Goathland, the centre of 'Heartbeat Country' 10 miles. The picturesque Runswick Bay can be reached from Sandsend on foot along the coastal path, part of the Cleveland Way. Scarborough can be reached by bike predominantly along a disused railway route, part of National Cycle Route 1, including magnificent views above Robin Hood's Bay and Ravenscar

Further Details:

Sandsend has a well stocked village store which stocks a good variety of food and household essentials as well as specialty gift foods. There are a number of cafés and a restaurant, as well as a pub that serves food. Surf lessons are available and boards can be hired. The historic town of Whitby is famous for being Captain Cook's local port and the landing place of Dracula on his ill fated trip from Transylvania! It is also well known for the Abbey ruins above the town at the end of a challenging climb of 199 steps. Shortly beyond the foot of the steps is Fortunes smokehouse, well know locally and nationally for delicious home smoked kippers, salmon and bacon. Whitby is rightly famous for the quality and quantity of fish and chips on offer. Built around the harbour where the river Esk empties into the North Sea, the long tradition of fishing is still alive in Whitby. The stunning prints of Victorian photographer, Frank Meadows Sutcliffe are very popular around Whitby and a gallery of his work is in the centre of the town. Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes are well known and popular coastal villages with histories associated with the men who trawled the sea for fish as well as those who made their living through smuggling. The North York Moors National Park boarders Sandsend and Whitby, rising up from the sea to provide a vast landscape that offers a huge variety of walking and cycling opportunities. Low Dalby forrest between Whitby and Pickering has been commended for its excellent mountain bike trails and also offers beautiful surroundings for those who want to walk or visit by car. York, with its history going back to Viking and Roman eras is a stunning town with northern Europe's largest Gothic Cathedral, as well as many very high standard museums.
