About Darren and Sharon Hall

Sharon and Darren Hall live with their two children in the adjacent Farmhouse. Both are retired from the Royal Navy and Darren now works as a civilian Helicopter Pilot and Sharon as a Tutor for Dyslexia Scotland. Having also relocated from the Middle East, the family have enjoyed discovering the beautiful sights that Scotland has to offer as well as its deep rooted history and variety of outdoor activities and, as a result, decided to provide a base for others to enjoy it too!

Our first year in the holiday let business went well, our guests were pleased with the cottage and its facilities as well as its location. We have enjoyed meeting some amazing and fun people and look forward to sharing our home with this years guests.

Darren and Sharon Hall purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Darren and Sharon Hall chose Scotland

Baikiehill gives us the opportunity to enjoy beautiful scenery and a peaceful lifestyle whilst within reach of fun things to do for the kids. We have the best of both worlds!

Our family favourites include Portsoy, especially for its amazing ice cream, Pitmedden gardens are just stunning, Leith Hall has a beautiful setting and lovely walks and Loch Muich, Ballater has stunning scenery and deers roaming freely.

Now in our second year at Baikiehill we are in the process of designing our gardens and updating parking areas. The new driveway is complete and trees have been planted. We have met some great people from as far afield as Canada and have enjoyed sharing stories with some ex Naval personnel!

What makes this cottage unique

There is so much to see and do from this location. The castle and whisky trails are close and there is so much to learn about Scotland's heritage right on your doorstep.

We particularly enjoy Fyvie castle with its amazing history and the cafe has lovely cakes! The Glenfiddich distillery is extremely welcoming and the tour very professional. Haddo House and gardens are spectacular all year round and has just updated its play areas and gardens.

A day trip to Aviemore gives breathtaking views from its funicular railway or walking in the summer and skiing in the winter for the more active. Balmoral is within easy reach (seasonal) with its beautiful gardens and distillery.

We are still being tourists after nearly four years here and still have so much more to discover.

Exceptional! 5/5 -

If you want 5 star accommodation but without the price tag, this is the place to stay.

The property has everything you would need for a relaxing holiday. It's size makes it all the more appealing, we've never stayed in such a large holiday property that has everything you would need to make it comfortable and enjoyable.

The views are stunning and it's so peaceful we've never had such a restful nights sleep, even with the odd Owl 'hooting' at night. Easy access to all local roads to get your groceries and get to all the touristy things you do when on holiday.

The owners are the best hosts we've ever rented from and we can highly recommend their efforts to make our stay a pleasant and enjoyable one.

We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a Scottish holiday and we will definitely consider booking here again.

Thank You.

It was easy to see why all the previous reviews had been so complimentary! The accommodation was spotless, spacious and wanted for nothing in equipment. Mine hosts were absolutely charming, thoughtful and helpful, and made us feel instantly as if we were part of their global family. It may be a little way from a town or village but if you are seeking a peaceful, rural idyll with stunning aspects then this is for you. We cannot fault this home for a relaxing break.

Beatiful peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

You never know from a web booking if what you book is what you are going to get. From the get go Darren and Sharon were helpful emailing ahead, checking we were happy, confirming if we wanted anything sorting prior to arrival, talking me to the property as I drove after my antique navigator gave up. When we arrived to their gorgeous rental it was no different. Always there to give you advice, if you wanted, to have a friendly chat but never in your face.

The cottage is one of the best I have stayed in, spacious, warm, equipped and cosy.

Tesco's deliver - I totally advise doing this makes life so easy.

Do go an visit the seals - Darren will tell you where they are, fantastic.

Do go to Balmoral - a bit of a drive but a beautiful drive and a great castle - although COSTA serve the coffee not the butler!

Do go to aberdeen - just don't expect too much - it is what it is.

Do totally relax - enjoy and breathe the coutry air, we did and we loved it.

Superb - thoroughly recommended.

  • 5 of 5

A really beautiful cottage. It's superbly furnished, the facilities are excellent, there's plenty of space and it's spotlessly clean throughout. The owners have thought of everything (and more) and couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. Lovely location, quiet setting with ample parking etc. We had a lovely time thank you and will be back! Thoroughly recommended.
