Torbay View is on the second (top) floor and sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms. A key feature of the property is the balcony which is accessed by both the living room and master bedroom, and extends across the whole frontage, getting the sun from about 10 o'clock until it sets. The views are fabulous, extending out to sea and over the bay and also the cricket field, tennis court and croquet lawns to the hills of Mutters-moor beyond. The flat has been refurbished to a high standard and is well equipped with a large kitchen. The location offers an ideal base for exploring this part of East Devon and the Jurassic Coast, be it on foot or by car. The beach and esplanade are a couple of minutes' walk away and the town with its eclectic mix of small family owned shops can be reached on foot in 3 minutes. The town offers a good variety of 'eateries'. The bus station with regular services to Exeter and Honiton is also a couple of minutes' walk away.

About Christina Brook

Christina and Roland Brook live in Surrey and purchased Torbay View in September 2011. They regularly spend time there themselves regarding it as a home from home which is reflected in the ambience of the property. The apartment had been lovingly refurbished by the previous owners and the Brooks aim to maintain and build upon the standard of property they achieved.

Why Christina Brook chose East Devon

We have a life-long love of the sea and it was always our intention to buy a coastal bolt hole - we were just waiting for the right one to turn up. Torbay View fitted the bill perfectly. Sidmouth is easily accessible by road and rail (and even air!) and combines everything you could want from a seaside resort. The location is wonderful for walking and sea sports as well as more sedantary pastimes and entertainment. Everything is within a few minutes' walk of the property - no need to get into the car. The best thing is being able to walk on the beach within a couple of minutes. Above all Sidmouth has a unique friendly atmosphere.

What makes this apartment unique

The location couldn't be better for us. It does not have the drawbacks of a central town location, but being within a couple of minutes' walk of all amenities, it has all the advantages. It is very much "where town meets sea meets country". When looking for a property we wanted somewhere with outside space but not the burden of upkeep of a garden. The balcony with its sea, cricket and country views met this brief perfectly. Christina is particularly keen on cooking so a large well equipped user-friendly kitchen was a must! Since purchasing Torbay View we have had many happy stays there, sometimes with friends and family who all seem to fall in love with the place!

Notes on accommodation: We do not have parking, but there is a private car park opposite the flats (approx £12 a day) or various municipal car parks, the nearest being Manor road for which a weekly ticket can be purchased at a cost of around £25. There is also free on-street parking for 4 cars in Station Road by the Bedford Hotel. We accept children, but bear in mind it is a second floor flat and they must be kept supervised at all times when using the balcony. For this reason is unsuitable for very small children. Provided in the flat is a range of games, magazines, books and DVDs. There is also a fully equipped picnic basket for guests' use. There are two MP3 players (in master and attic bedroom), DVD play. All bedrooms have hair dryers and there is an iron, ironing board and hoover in the utility cupboard. Unlimited free WiFi Outside: There is a balcony with a small table and 4 patio chairs. The balcony is accessed from both the living room and master bedroom. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels, bedlinen and bathmats are provided. On a 2 week stay these are changed mid-stay.

The flat is about 30 metres from the seafront and beach. At the town end the beach is mostly shingle, but at the west end (nearest to the flat) it is sandy at low tide and extends some distance. The sand is a dark russet colour as is common in some Devon resorts. At low tide numerous rock pools are exposed near Jacob's Ladder, a stairway to Con naught Gardens where there is an excellent café. The Millennium Walkway beneath the cliffs provides a flat walk to the west end of the beach.


Road links to Sidmouth are excellent putting it within around 3 hours' drive from London. The nearest railway station is Honiton (10 miles) - the 52B bus to Sidmouth takes 35mins. There are regular buses to Exeter and surrounding towns. The bus station is 3 minutes walk from Torbay View. Exeter Airport is 10 miles away with up to 160 flights a week from the UK, Europe and some worldwide destinations. Car hire is only necessary if you want to explore a wider area.

Booking Notes:
Booking can be made via the website or by phone. A £100 deposit is required to secure the booking and the balance is payable 8 weeks before the stay. A £100 refundable breakages deposit is also required. We do not accept responsibility nor have insurance for guests' personal belongings and strongly advise that you take out your own insurance cover for your stay. We regret we cannot make any refunds if cancellation is made less than 8 weeks prior to your stay unless the week can be re-sold.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Friday. We ask that guests depart by 10am to allow time for cleaning and turnaround. Arrival time is after 4pm but arrangements may be made with the owners for earlier arrival if there are no prior guests.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
