About the property

Cottage in Great Doward, Whitchurch, Herefordshire, England

The Apple Store is a self contained annexe to 'Old Kiln House', which is an 18th century farmhouse and cider orchard. Situated on 'Great Doward, a hill of mixed farm and woodland set in the lower Wye Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the property has extensive views across the Wye Valley. Numerous excellent walks begin right from the doorstep and King Arthur's Cave can be seen and easily visited from the Apple Store. The old barn and outbuilding have recently been restored to provide comfort and modern convenience in an idyllic rural setting.

Lovely and comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage for us to explore the beautiful area. Well equipped and comfortable beds. Tranquil garden. We never tired of seeing the sheep run across the field!

Beautiful cottage amongst beautiful scenery!

  • 5 of 5

Sarah made us feel very welcome, and the cottage is cosy and well stocked (including good kids dvds!) with very comfy beds! It's perfect for visiting all that the wye valley has to offer-we explored King Arthur's caves, went kayaking, visited the butterfly zoo, did go ape and rode the dean forest railway!

The kids loved watching the sheep and lambs in the field opposite and loved their cosy bedroom.

We loved our week here, thank you Sarah!

Good place at a great price in a lovely area.

Lovely character property, beautiful on the inside, with amazing views, and really close to all the best bits of the area.

Downside; rubbish showers - nothing else.

A pleasant stay but some details needed attention

  • 4 of 5

Sarah was a lovely host and was very helpful when we needed it - offered us tea on arrival and gave us some maps of the area. The Apple store itself was comfortable and pleasant. However, the wifi was non existent - every time it picked up the signal it was lost within seconds. A router in the Apple store itself is needed. The mobile reception is not good either although this can't be helped by the host. There was also no baths -only showers and these were not great. Nevertheless, it is well situated for the forest and all it's outdoor activities such as cycling and canoeing, and Monmouth is a pleasant small town to visit. In all a good break for us.

Short stay in comfortable in peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable, well equipped cottage in a peaceful setting. Lovely views from patio. Travel directions slightly misleading and narrow road after leaving A40. Best driven in daylight. Friendly owner. Description doesn't make it clear that bathroom for the twin bedroom is downstairs but having two bathrooms was useful as we were two couples. Twin bedroom and kitchen dark due to only slit window to let light in as other window opens under covered area between cottage and owner's house. Double bedroom and lounge light and airy. Fridge has freezer compartment(not separate freezer) but adequate for holiday stay. Tip- take kitchen roll and napkins if you use them and dishcloth as only sponge/ scourer for washing up. Small dishwasher. Comfortable beds. Plenty of space for clothes. Cottage clean apart from cobwebs in places and dusty under sofas and behind chest of drawers. WiFi only works in part of cottage. Mobile reception limited.

Plenty of interesting places to visit without travelling too far. We went to Symonds Yat, Hereford and Raglan Castle during our short break.

We would be happy to stay there again.

Property was as described on the website. The wi-fi and TV reception was variable but wasn't a problem for us.Very clean and well equipped . It was dog friendly with good walks all around and we were welcomed by the owner on our arrival. Would be very happy to stay here again.
