Woodlea is a charming semi-detached house, recently modernised to a very high standard with LPG heating. Open-plan ground floor with wood burner in sitting area, TV, DVD, stereo and iPod connection, dining area and well-provided kitchen. Internet for e-mail and web-browsing. Sleeps 7 in 4 bedrooms over 3 floors, 2 bathrooms, one en-suite. Children’s play-area on top floor with X-box and TV. Private, quiet setting, rural location, large enclosed garden patio area, and decked area overlooking the Nanny burn, perfect for barbecues. Situated within the Northumbrian AONB, the house is 5 minutes from the spectacular coast with golden sands, rock pools, harbours and all its amenities - golf courses, coastal and inland walks, castles, nature reserves and islands including the Farne islands bird sanctuary and Holy Island. It is 8 miles from Alnwick with its famous gardens, castle and quirky second hand book shop, and Alnmouth with its rail link to London. It is 8 miles from Alnwick with its famous garden. I am a mother of three now adult children and our family has always enjoyed holidays in beautiful Northumberland. While the children were teenagers we used the house solely for family holidays but for the last five years have let it for certain times of the year as well.

Why the owner chose a property in Northumberland

We love Northumberland because of the fantastic coastline and beautiful hills and moors closeby.The area is easily accessible but remains unspoilt and quiet. There are plenty of activities for all ages and interests .

Unique benefits of the property

The property is located on a quiet road which is a cycle route, it backs onto a small nature reserve and there is a pretty enclosed garden with gated decking overlooking the beck. A number of good beaches are 5 minutes away by car, fantastic for bird watchers including the Farne Islands .

Northumberland has plenty for all ages and interests,the beaches have lovely golden sand and dunes where it is easily possible to escape crowds. There are also many historic sites, including castles and stately homes and gardens, and the magical island of Lindisfarne. The house is quiet, well equipped and perfect for relaxation.

What makes this house unique

Woodlea is a very comfortable sunny 3 storey house which lends itself to couples or extended families or groups of friends. It has a pretty enclosed garden with a large drive with parking for at least 3 cars. It has recently been refurbished to a high standard with an open plan ground floor, teenage area on the top floor, full central heating and wood burner.

Notes on accommodation: Starter pack of logs for stove and barbecue charcoal. Full central heating and heated towel rails in each bathroom. Outside: Sunny front and rear gardens, with Nanny burn running behind and accessible from the garden through a gate (care with young children, can be padlocked). Rear patio, and decking overlooking the stream and wildlife conservation area. Barbecue, two sets of outdoor furniture on patio and decking, ideal for just relaxing and enjoying the views over open countryside. There is a large gravel drive with parking for several cars as well as on the quiet road to the front of the house. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: House towels and linen included, property cleaned towels and linen changed before start of each holiday. Lovely welcome pack on arrival! Other: All bedrooms good size and fully carpeted with quality furnishings and lovely views over open countryside. Family bathroom recently fitted out with white suite and drench shower. There are hair dryers in two bedrooms, ironing board and airer.

This house has everything you could wish for. Comfortable, clean and equipped with everything. Home from home. It's in a very quiet location but lots of local attractions can be reached within a short drive.

Lovely house, great location.

I can only agree with every word of all the reviews. It was truly home from home, beautifully furnished, extremely well equipped, excellent lighting, comfortable beds, clean, warm, quiet, relaxing, lovely gardens. Great location only ten or so minutes from Beadnell and Seahouses for any food shopping and perfect for visiting all the attractions of the area. Thank you Siobhan so much for allowing me to visit again this fantastic area and being able to show it to my American friend. I will never forget my time here.

Lovely property in great location.

We had an amazing week in the property in Northumberland. There were 5 adults and 2 children and lots and lots of space. The house had everything we needed - even an attic den which our boys were very excited about. The house was perfect inside and set in a lovely area, and we were able to go on walks from the house. It was very close to Bamburgh which was lovely, Seahouses for a trip to see the sea birds on the Farne islands which was a highlight and a trip to Alnwick to see Harry Potter. Siobhan was incredibly helpful with all our questions before the trip and after. Thank you!

Fabulous House in quiet location

Great home providing excellent accommodation for our party of 5 adults. The house is light and there is plenty of space for all guests. The kitchen is so well equipped that it feels like a home rather than a rental cottage. It was lovely to have the log burner heating us on our return from outside and the central heating worked quickly to ensure we were comfortable throughout the house. Would love to stay again!!

Fabulous house, wonderful location

This house is an absolute gem, just fabulous, in a wonderful location to boot, close to the beautiful beaches and scenery. The house itself is light, spacious, comfortable and has everything you ever need for your stay. The welcome pack was a lovely touch too. There is such a feeling of space and relaxation, it felt like a home away from home and our week passed far too quickly. If you are looking to be close to beaches and comfort for all the family, stay here, you won't go wrong. Thank you for a wonderful week and we look forward to return.

We found treasure!

The photos do not really do this incredibly comfortable home justice. We decided last minute to take our family away for the Easter break and chanced upon this home. With five children and two adults we were looking for space!

This house has everything that a family could wish for.

From the wonderful babbling brook at the end of the garden that you can sit over on the purpose built patio drinking your morning cuppa listening to the birds and to the flow of water or, later, sipping a lovely glass of refreshment whilst watching the children explore the woods directly opposite, is perfect.

The fully stocked games cupboard and bookshelves that have all kinds of really well thought through interesting reads for ALL the family. We started a game of Yorkshire Monopoly that last four days!!!!

The kitchen is superbly equipped and there's plenty of glasses, cups, bowls etc so the children can, as they so often do, take a clean one without mum having to wash up every 5 mins! The dining table extends to accommodate ten so no fighting for space or a place and the front room has two really comfy sofas with a wood burner that we curled up to on a night.

One of the best parts for our boys was they had their own private pad at the top of the house which has an ensuite AND a great snug room equipped with Playstation, books and games so we hardly saw them. They felt so independent!

The house is 10mins from Beadnell beach where we went crabbing and 20mins from Seahouses where we walked along the beach to Bamburgh. Although the weather wasn't kind to us it really didn't matter because we truly came back relaxed and rested from this lovely break.

5-10 minutes by car to beautiful quiet beaches, including: Bamburgh with its miles of magnificent golden sands, dunes and rock pools, spectacular views as well as famous castle; Beadnell Bay has a small harbour and large sandy bay Walks and cycling from the door and short car rides away (within 30 minutes)


The nearest airport, Newcastle International, is 40 miles south of Chathill, while ferries from Amsterdam link North Shields, 45 miles south of the house, to the continent. The house is easily accessible by public transport with main line trains from London stopping atAlnmouth (15 miles)or Berwick (15 miles) and local trains stopping at Chathill (1 mile) twice a day. There are regular bus services to Newcastle and Alnwick from Seahouses and Beadnell.


The nearest small town is Seahouses 4 miles away, a lively seaside resort with a range of shops, restaurants and amusements. There are regular boat trips from here to the Farne Islands and to Holy Island in the summer. Alnwick, a larger market town, is 15 minutes away by car and has a number of supermarkets and a range of shops as well the famous castle and gardens. The Cheviot Hills and Northumbrian national park, as well as Berwick and the Scottish Borders are all within 30 minutes drive.

Seahouses has a supermarket, bank, post-office and range of small food, stationary, hardware and gift shops as well as Lewis' fish and chip shop, Swallow fresh fish shop, Trotters local bakery;there is a range of restaurants, pubs and some seaside amusements. The Seafield Ocean Club welcomes non-members to its Health and Beauty Suite for a range of beauty and relaxation treatments. There is an active fishing harbour. Beadnell has 2 pubs and a children’s playground. Bamburgh has miles of easily accessible golden sands backed by dunes and a superb golf course with fantastic coastal views. There are also several pubs and restaurants, the Grace Darling Museum, a very interesting church and village trail. Bamburgh has Carters Butchers selling the famous Bamburgh banger as well as quality meat and pies, and a local market garden selling fruit and local vegetables. There are many other very good beaches nearby, including Beadnell Bay, Budle Bay for bird watching, Craster with its famous kippers and walk to Dunstanburgh Castle and the beautiful National Trust village of Low Newton with a nature reserve and the famous Ship Inn with its own brewery and good food. Alnwick has a range of amenities including banks, specialist outdoor shops a regular market, a theatre, and of course the famous Castle used in the Harry Potter films and the innovative gardens, now world renowned, as well as annual music festival in August. There are many local folk music groups playing fiddles and Northumbrian pipes. !5 minutes away, beside Embleton Bay is Howick Hall and Gardens with an Earl Grey tea house and wooded walks and wonderful rhododendrons and snowdrops. The famous Sage Centre in Gateshead is 40 minutes away and has many quality concerts and events. Newcastle, the heart of Geordie land, 30 mins by car, has many museums fantastic shops and an interesting quayside area. The Roman wall and forts of Vindolanda and Housesteads, Cragside in Rothbury and Hexham town are all within 90 minutes.
