2 bedroom sleeps 4 village house with spacious living areas and fantastic roof terrace. Situated at the top of the village 3 minutes from the Moorish Castle and 5 minutes to start of trails through Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the river Hozgarganta.
I lived in this lovely village for 3 years then unfortunately needed to relocate for work, so now I use it as my holiday home. My sister, her family and lots of my friends still live in the village so I am kept in touch with all the local life so it is like home from home for me. I love the natural beauty and the abundant wildlife you see here.
Lynn Prentice purchased this house in 2007
I bought this special house as a holiday home in 2008 then decided to live in it for a few years, but have now returned to the U.K for a few years to work. Looking forward to the time when I can return.
Its a beautiful part of the world with some lively restaurants and bars but not enough to spoil its natural Spanish feel.
Sitting outside in the piazza enjoying a drink or meal it reminds you of a time gone by in our busy world.
There are 2 local swimming pools open during the summer but many people swim in the River Hozarganta.
A great train line which has an unforgettable restaurant on the station doorstep at nearly every station on the line a fab day out.
Overall, the house did not feel clean or well cared for. It was clear that the floors had not been freshly mopped before our arrival; there was, however, a filthy, rank-smelling mop and bucket in the kitchen.
Of the four lights in the kitchen, only one had a bulb that was working. One of the overhead lights in the living room had also gone. The wall lights in the living room were also not working, and so we had a choice of sitting in the evenings with harsh overhead lighting, or bringing other lamps up from the bedrooms to supplement the one lamp in the corner. The cover designed to disguise the extremely shabby state of the leather settee was next to useless, since the slipperiness of the fabric meant that it kept coming off whenever anyone sat on it.
The towels in the kitchen were filthy and had to be washed before we could use them. The bathmat also looked dirty, and very shabby.
There were no ice cube trays in the freezer (had we known this in advance, we could have brought ice-cube bags, which were not available in the local shops). No oven gloves, and no means of making toast or grilling meat, since there was no rack in the grill pan. We were glad there was a dishwasher and plentiful supply of tablets, since we felt we had to run the crockery and glassware through the dishwasher before using it.
There was no means of lighting on the outside stairs or terrace, meaning we could not sit out in the evenings once it had gone dark (to my mind, one of the great pleasures of living in Spain). The outside furniture was again in poor condition, and we could not find evidence of the sun lounger or barbecue shown in the picture. No means of securing the parasol in the table, so no way of procuring shade in the middle of the day.
The front bedroom had very little storage space: no wardrobe, and only two of the four drawers were available for our use, since the top two were already full. The back bedroom smelt musty and damp, but the worst thing was the slugs which came in through the ceiling. That would have been bad enough if they had confined themselves to crawling around the walls, but my friend was horrified to realise she was lying in a patch of slug slime, owing to the fact two of them had got into the bed! I also found slug slime on my trousers which were in the front bedroom.
Jimena is a lovely village, which I have visited many times before and this is the first time the holiday has been spoilt by the standard of the accommodation.
Had the best time. Great house in a fantastic location.Very clean comfortable and well presented. Lots of places to visit during the day, something for all tastes. The local bars and restaurants are all very welcoming and serve fab food. The village feels very traditional and unspoilt. The roof terrace is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine in the evening and take in the breath taking views. Will definitely be returning to this property in the future. I cant rate it highly enough.
This is a lovely rustic house. Upstairs living/dining room with juliette balcony over looking street. Bread van arrives appx 10am every morning and you hear him beeping horn with balcony doors open . Steps from kitchen area to really nice roof terrace with fab views. Very Spanish village. Loved Jimena.
