About the property

Isleornsay, Isle of Skye, Scottish Highlands, Scotland - secluded location, short walk to pub and sea

Calling all families, nature lovers, star gazers, gastronomers and outward bound adventurers! Come and hide away in your very own haven of tranquillity, far from the stresses of daily life. If you’ve never visited Skye’s Sleat peninsula, you’re in for a real treat as there’s something on offer locally for everyone, all set amongst some of the finest scenery Skye, indeed Scotland has to offer. The house itself, although perfectly secluded, is walking distance from a fantastic pub and restaurant and it’s only a short drive to the famous Cuillin Mountains. What’s more South Skye is also an ideal base not only to explore Skye, but also the beautiful west coast mainland as it’s only a short drive to either the Skye Bridge or the Mallaig ferry (providing access to other islands and the famous Harry Potter train!). Broadford is only 8 miles away and has a supermarket, hospital, bank and tourist information. Kyle is 15 miles away and also has a swimming pool and train station.

About Ailsa Stinson

Hi, I'm Ailsa and together with my husband Rich we own An Iodhlann, in Isle Ornsay, Skye.

My family is from the village of Isle Ornsay going back many generations. I have never lived there full time myself, but have a huge bank of happy memories of spring, summer, autumn and winter school holiday visits to grandparents over many years.

Before setting off to travel in 2001 we visited my elderly Granddad to say goodbye.

'Did you never fancy travelling the world Granddad?' I asked.

'Now why would I want to do that, when I've a fine wee nest here?' he replied.

He was right, and in 2009 we bought An Iodhlann so that our own young family could enjoy everything that Skye, and in particular Isle Ornsay has to offer in terms of relaxation, family time and enjoying the great outdoo

Ailsa Stinson purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Ailsa Stinson chose Isle of Skye

As well as the family connection mentioned above, we love the village of Isle Ornsay because of its pretty centre and stunning views.

With two bays and a pub and restaurant we can walk to, it's tempting to stay at home pottering about with the children and forget about exploring the rest of the island!

What makes this cottage unique

The house itself is well equipped and set up for families or groups of adults alike, with plenty of entertainment whether the weather is kind or not.

When we do venture out it's not far to get to some fantastic walking, pretty bays and also child centred activities such as swimming and play parks. Not only are the Cuillins within easy reach, but the beautiful west coast mainland too.

The Sleat peninsula really is the hidden gem of Skye.

We really wouldn't rather be anywhere else and we hope you too will fall in love with the area and have some wonderful memories to cherish.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a fantastic hideaway! Great cottage and great location. This was our first stay, but we are already planning when we can come back again. So well equipped as well, we loved it. Thank you.

Great house for our family visit

  • 5 of 5

House was clean and welcoming. The kitchen was well stocked with every imaginable utensil. Enjoyed our stay. The house was plenty big enough for our family of 5 with room to spare. Our kids enjoyed the Wii and selection of movies.

a 5 to 10 minute walk from the house in either direction will bring you to one of two small rocky bays. Isle Ornsay Bay has a pier, a pub/hotel/restaurant and also is home to The Gaelic Whiskies tasting experience.

Cruard Bay is a secluded and pretty bay with stunning views to mainland Scotland. Fantastic for rock pooling with kids when the tide is right.
