18th Century Cottage Hythe Kent. Splendid and Spacious - Short breaks available

Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Dec-2016
Cottage in Hythe, Nr. Folkestone, Kent, England - Convenient Location Close To High Street And A 5 Minute Walk To The Seafront

This 18th Century 2 bedroom cottage is situated on Stade Street which runs between the High Street and the Seafront. On the High Street, a five minute stroll from the cottage, you will find a variety of interesting and 'artie' shops, selling artifacts and crafty materials, great for presents, cafes, pubs and restaurants suiting any pocket. We recommend the Hythe Brasserie and in the summer, Greggs Fish mongers offer beautifully cooked fishat tables on the beach. Waitrose is a 10 minute walk along the Military Canal bank in one direction and Sainsbury's the other. The seafront, a 10 minute stroll, has a promenade great for walking, cycling or roller skating. The cycle path continues into Folkestone and is a flat and traffic free ride. (Cycle hire can be arranged.) Great days out are offered by the Hythe and Dymchuch Railway, Port Lympne Wildlife Park, Dover Castle, Cantebury with London and France just over an hour away. The cottage is cosy with a coal effect gas fire and central heating retaining its historical charm whilst equipped with all modern facilities.

About the Owner

I live in Hythe with my husband and our rescue dog Daisy. For many years I lived and worked in London but now enjoy the peace of this lovely town and a different pace of life.

"The cottage was well equipped and had a lovely open feel. Hythe is an interesting town with plenty to see and do. We didn't use our car once."

A lovely cottage and lovely owners, very helpful. Booked it for my daughters wedding in Hythe and it was perfect. Very well equipped and very central. Would quite happily book it again. Many thanks.

Well appointed cottage which is ideally situated for seafront, canal and town.

  • 5 of 5

Parking outside the cottage is unrestricted, so once we had our space, there we stayed as we didn't need to drive anywhere over the weekend.

The owners Nicola and Chris, are very friendly and welcoming and made it clear that they were available to help if we had any problems or queries.

The cottage itself is lovely, bright, roomy and warm.

We found an unexpected basket of goodies on the kitchen table which we were delighted with. The kitchen is fully equipped and all the utilities are good quality.

There is one downstairs bathroom with toilet, bidet, basin, shower cubical and bath. The bath also has a shower attachment.

Both bedrooms have double beds! This is unusual in my experience and very welcome. The beds have high quality feather pillows and duvets which makes for extreme coziness.

Our two dogs were welcome and the back garden was available for their morning relief, which of course was immediately cleared.

Overall an excellent place to stay.. we will return.

A lovely cottage with lovely owners

  • 5 of 5

A comfy warm cottage, which the owners themselves had lived in for a year or more. Hence a homely feel rather than the Spartan furnishings some rental properties get by with. Very well equipped, super welcome basket of goodies. Bathroom is downstairs, so take care on the stairs if you need the loo in the night. Brilliant location, one way five minutes to the beach and the fish restaurant, the other way one minute to the canal, two minutes to what is a very interesting high street, five minutes to Waitrose or Sainsbury's. Onstreet parking, outside the door with luck. Recommended, we will go again. Our cat enjoyed himself as well!

An absolutely perfect stay in your cottage in Stade Street, Hythe.

  • 5 of 5

It is not always easy to find a nice place to stay if you have a dog. Therefore, we were really happy to have found this wonderful and superbly maintained cottage in Hythe. Nicola and Chris do everything to make you feel at home. A very generous welcome basket, lovely fresh flowers and most of all, the "guided tour" by Chris on our arrival made the start of our stay special.

The cottage:

The cottage is very tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are comfortable. The TV and Wifi worked without any problems.

The location:

The location is perfect for us. On-street parking is usually no problem in Stade Street. The Royal Military Canal is just round the corner and a very nice area for walking (the dog). The High Street is only minutes awayand we can very much recommend the pub "The Butt of Sherry" for a good meal. The shingle beach is down the street.

Activities:

Hythe is a lovely little town with good access to the motorway. We love going to Margate for a visit in the Turner Contemporary or the amazing Shell Grotto. In Hythe St. Leonard's Church with the crypt and ossuary is very impressive, though a bit creepy.

We definitely would like to come back and thanks again, Nicola and Chris.

Wonderful cottage enjoyed by all the family. Excellent standard of accommodation :)

The photos of this lovely cottage do not do it justice! It really is a home from home, so comfortable, so inviting!

The description of the cottage also does not do justice to the closeness & ease of everything in this setting. The sea is at the bottom of the road, the canal is a stones throw as are all the local supermarkets, lovely high street & little tea houses.

We stayed in the cottage with our three daughters, aged 8, 12 & 16 months for a family wedding in Lymnpe Castle, a mere 10 minutes away by car.

The cottage was very child friendly & we had no problems accommodating all 3 girls & keeping our baby safe...made easy with the door in front of the stairs & plenty of room to toddle about.

The beds & feather duvets were super comfortable, the cottage was warm, plenty of hot water, fluffy towels & everything you could possibly need in the kitchen.

Our host gave us the warmest welcome made even better with a very generous welcome basket full of yummy food & a bottle of wine! There was even a vase of fresh flowers on the table for our arrival. It really was very special! Our little family highly recommend to all!

The cottage is very clean & tidy. Lovely interior, decorated to a high standard. Very well equiped with everything we needed and more. The location is brilliant, between the high street and the beach. Perfect having the military canal and park just over the road. Perfect for the dog!! Very thoughtfull basket of food/drinks left by the very friendly & accomadating owner. Would highly reccomend to everyone.

Location

From the Owner

For many years my husband and I lived in London and used the cottage as a weekend retreat. Last year we decided to live full time in this beautiful part of the world and relocated to Hythe. We gave the cottage a face lift and hope that others will enjoy it as much as we did.

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottage is within easy reach of the town and the seafront. When we used to come for weekends and short breaks I loved the fact that I could park up the car and not use it again until we were heading home. There are good cycle paths in the area and many of them are very flat! There are excellent walks and many guided walks too. The shopping facilities are varied and if you like to find a bargain the charity shops and auction houses are plentiful. If you want to use your car there are many beautiful beaches from the wildness of Dungeness to the miles of golden sands at Camber. Many beautiful villages nestle in the surrounding countryside. The landscape has great variety with the Romney Marshes and the hills and cliffs at Dover.
