About the property

Apartment in Porthmadog, Wales - Peaceful Location, Short Walk To Beaches, Shops And Restaurants

Lovely ground floor apartment with beautiful views of Snowdonia and the Glaslyn estuary with garden adjacent to harbour. Recently refurbished. The sitting room looks out directly onto Porthmadog Harbour where you can watch the boats and see wonderful views in all directions. The property is on the Welsh Coastal Path. There is a numbered parking space outside the apartment. It is in a very quiet spot, but at the same time close to everything you might need! It is within easy walking distance of the Ffestiniog steam railway station and also of many shops, cafes, restaurants in Porthmadog town. Also nearby is the pretty village of Borth-y-Gest and the beaches beyond including Black Rock sands, all of which are lovely for families. There are 2 pubs within a couple of minutes walk, both serving food, and there are nearby Indian, Thai and many other restaurants also within easy walking distance in Porthmadog itself. There are superb walks nearby in the Snowdonia National park.

About Emma Patchett

My name is Emma Patchett and I live in Warwickshire with my husband and two children. Before having my children I had a career as a solicitor, although I decided to give up my legal position whilst the children are young. I now work part-time. The apartment in Porthmadog belongs to my mother.

It is in such a beautiful and peaceful spot, with every type of amenity close by. We hope it appeals to many types of holiday maker - walkers, beach lovers, climbers, wildlife enthusiasts, fans of steam railway or those who simply want a restful holiday watching the yachts in the harbour. Our children have loved trips to the beaches and amazing coastal castles nearby. All of our family have had wonderful holidays in the apartment and we would like others to be able to enjoy the delights of Snowdonia too!

Emma Patchett purchased this apartment in 1997

Why Emma Patchett chose Gwynedd - Snowdonia

Snowdonia is a wonderful destination for a holiday. We love the area because there are so many different things to do and it also has both spectacular coastal and mountain scenery. The apartment is ideally positioned to take advantage of both.

The apartment is very quiet and peaceful and is at the edge of the small town of Porthmadog. It is situated on the Harbour, the access road is actually part of the Welsh Coastal Path. In the 19th century Oakley Wharf was a busy quayside loading Welsh slate for export around the world, and the area retains many historic features. It's only a few minutes walk to restaurants, pubs, shops, beaches and Ffestiniog railway station where you can travel by steam train into the surrounding countryside. The apartment can cater for everyone's holiday needs!

What makes this apartment unique

One of the best things about Oakley Wharf is its waterside location and the fabulous harbour views from the garden. This makes it a wonderful spot for sitting in the garden, having a cup of tea/glass of wine, or eating, and watching the boats go by.

To the left you can see the ever changing colours of the mountains of Snowdonia and to the right is the Glaslyn estuary with its varied bird life and the beautiful sea views.

From the front door it is a pleasant walk to the beaches beyond Borth-y-Gest or the shops & cafes of Porthmadog High Street. You can choose a short stroll or a longer hike along the coastal paths, past beaches and coves with spectacular views.

The Ffestiniog railway is also very nearby for memorable steam-powered trips into Snowdonia.

Perfect, look no further

  • 5 of 5

Easy walk into the shopping centre of Porthmadog, absolutely fabulous views of estuary, trains and mountains. The apartment is clean and cosy with modern furnishings and is equipped with all you would need. Two comfortable sofas in living room next to patio doors overlooking the estuary and mountains. Dining area with table and four chairs next to ggod size kitchen area. Bedrooms are well furnished with ample storage and beds are comfortable. The main bedroom overlooks the estuary and mountains. Bathroom has a bath with a good shower over and heated towel rail. There is heating in all rooms. Good location for exploring the Lyn Peninsula and all of Snowdonia. Caernarfon is about 17 miles away by car about 20 mins and Anglesey another 15 mins. Of course the train to Caernarfon with it's harbour and magnificent castle where Prince Charles was made Prince of Wales is a lovely trip as is the ride over the Cob to Ffestiniog from the nearby station which is a pleasant 10 mins walk away. Hop off the train at Ffestiniog to visit the Llechwedd slate mine. Harlech Castle can be seen across the estuary from Borth y Gest and a little further down is Tywyn above Aberdovey, a beautiful drive along a valley to get to the beach where dolphins kept us entertained for an hour. Criccieth with it's majestic castle and fabulous views is under 10minutes by car and the lovely little Borth y Gest resort with it's fabulous mountain and sea views is only 5 mins by car or a little longer to walk. Great walks along the coastal path with plenty of seats along the way. Also looking to become a bit of a foodie spot!On that note there is a Tesco store nearby and Lidls opening shortly next to good large outdoor shops. Nearly forgot an excellent Fish and chip shop open all day from 11am until late! How could I forget!! You will be lucky to get a booking at this apartment!

Very much enjoyed our stay. Nice apartment spotless and well equipped.

Excellent location and lovely views.

Only downside was having to feed the electricity meter with pound coins!! and the weather but not much one can do about that.☺
