About Alison Moore

We had been coming to southern Europe for some years. We had always dreamed of having a property somewhere there, our very own place in the sun. In more recent years, our focus had narrowed to southern France where we decided we'd like to buy a holiday home and ultimately retire.

Changes in our circumstances opened up opportunities to spend longer in our new dream home. The more we stayed there, the more we wanted to stay. After careful consideration, we decided to move to Eymet full time and we have been there ever since.

The only thing I really missed about the UK was my old garden. As a keen gardener, now I had the sunshine and the time, but only a courtyard. Because we were now living in Eymet, we were able to find our present home just a little further out with its very own garden.

Why Alison Moore chose Perigord Pourpre

We stumbled upon Eymet in early Spring. We were pleasantly surprised to find the temperatures in the mid 20Cs even then. We were completely seduced by Eymet's old world charm and found the surrounding countryside totally delightful. After years of looking, it took us less than a week to decide that this was the place for us! We actually saw the home we were going to buy in that week, although we had to return some weeks later to put an offer on it.

The house itself had formally been a rented Gite, but had more recently been used as a private residence. Amongst other improvements we added an extra bedroom in the loft, with en-suite and towel radiators in all 3 shower rooms. We also added satellite TV, as we did not want to lose touch completely when we were there.

What makes this house unique

We absolutely love village life, going to the Boulanger every morning for freshly baked bread, visiting the local markets in the day and relaxing in the bars and cafes in the evening. Being just a few minutes walk to all of the amenities is definitely advantage here.

We now hope to share with others some of the great times we have had living at the heart of an old Bastide.

Our former home lies in one of the most beautiful corners of the Dordogne, surrounded by vineyards that produce some of the best wine in the world. The history of the area is absolutely fascinating going back thousands of years.

Eymet makes a great location to explore all this and enjoy the rich lifestyle of southern France. Whether you rent our former home or not, we hope you make time to visit our lovely Eymet.

Mrs Alison Moore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I went to France for a few days and chose to stay in Eymet. We spotted this gite situated 2 minutes walk from the charming old town square.

We were very impressed with the accommodation, which incorporated full facilities on all three floors, which all seemed brand new.

The owners must have spent a good deal of time and money on this dwelling especially on turning the attic into a very spacious area, ideal for a large family.

Everything was clean and comfortable and we look forward to staying here again.

Lovely central location. Perfect for a base whilst exploring the Dordogne or house hunting in the area. The gite is equipped with everything you could possibly need. All topped off with complimentary wine on arrival. M x

Owner's Response: It was the central location that attracted us to this house when we were house-hunting. It was the first house we saw, looked at many but came back to this one, it suited all our needs. As for the wine, it comes from a vineyard just down the road. So not having been hauled halfway across France, it reaches our guests in tip-top condition. We're very lucky to live in such an excellent area for wine!

Owner's Response: Eymet is well situated for our guests to visit the other bastide towns in the area. Each town has its own individual character and we never tire of visiting them ourselves. As for the gite itself, we chose the location because it is only a few minutes from the square and main shopping street but surprisingly quiet given its proximity.

Eymet a delightful and relaxing Place

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful country France is for a retired couple. Eymet is a delightful and friendly place to stay. Our gite had many extras including tea, coffee, herbs, and even birthday candles available. As you enter the gite you have a well stocked kitchen and a table that seats six. The place is very clean with toiletries in each shower room (3). The three bedrooms were a good size with plenty of coat hangers and mirrors in the right place to do your hair. The courtyard has a washing line and you can use the washing machine if required. The courtyard has a shelter where can sit in the cool and read or watch small lizards (quite harmless) come out and bathe in the sun. The gite is less than 5 minutes walk away from the main square, it is beautiful with places to eat and shops all were reasonable and what interesting days and evenings when the market is there. A bonus in July and August is being able eat out in the local park with friends. Eymet is also a good base for exploring the Dordogne region as well.

Owner's Response: The first thing that struck me about Eymet when I first started to come here was the friendliness of the place. People here are very relaxed and quick to smile. Perhaps it's the beauty of this village that causes people to let their cares drift away, or maybe the history of the centuries - what a story to tell if these old stones could talk! I'm glad my guests can pick up this atmosphere too and enjoy their holiday escape just the way I used to do. Now I feel as though I'm on holiday every day!

Well located comfortable house

  • 5 of 5

A perfect location for us in the centre of Eymet, yet the surroundings were quiet and peaceful. Lots of handy shops and cafes which gave our children a feeling of independence. With two teenage daughters we were grateful for three very well appointed bathrooms!!!! These were well used!

This is a comfortable house to stay in and we felt the owner had put alot of thought into providing all the things you need. We will definitely be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a lovely review. We were very lucky with the location when we bought this house. Having stayed in a gite ourselves which featured one bathroom for up to seven guests, we quickly realised the importance of having adequate facilities, so when we renovated the property we sacrificed one bedroom to add an extra shower room. It's good to hear that you were so happy with our gite that you will be back. We look forward to your return.

lovely character townhouse in Eymet

  • 5 of 5

We had a very comfortable stay in this lovely old town house in Eymet. The gite had everything you could need, and the proximity to the town centre and the bars, cafés and shops was great. Parking was easy too. Booking and communication with Alison, the owner, was very easy, and she offered information on places to go in the area. I would certainly recommend the gite to anyone wanting a very comfortable and convenient base to visit this lovely area of France.

Owner's Response: I'm glad my guests found the booking procedure and communication with me easy. Having stayed in gites myself prior to moving to Eymet, I understand how important it is to have confidence in the property and it's owner when you are paying what could be a fairly large amount of money to that owner and trusting that you will get a clean, comfortable and safe holiday home in return. Holiday time should be a relaxing, stress-free break from the normal daily grind and I try to ensure that my guests have an enjoyable and carefree time in Eymet.

This property has everything you could wish for. Every little thing you may need for a short break or longer ( we are here for 7 days ). Alison made booking very easy and gave us lots of info regarding Eymet and surrounding area. She even helped us with airport transfers with one of her friends. The starter pack is a lovely touch as our first time in France so didn't feel the need to rush to the shops in a panick for milk etc. The only down side is going home as we have fallen in love with Eymet and the lovely people we have met.....will be sorry to leave. Thanks Alison, hope to return one day but highly recommend your pied a terre!
