Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Jeff,

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Vias, your house was a real home from home which gave us a comfortable and convenient haven from which to explore the area. It was very nice to meet you in person and your kindness and hospitality were much appreciated.

It was great to relax and unwind for a little while, but sadly now back to work with a bump!

Kind regards – Janis Davidson and Paul Millar.

3 weeks in Vias

  • 4 of 5

Overall we were very happy with this property, it was clean, well presented and had adequate amenities to facilitate a wonderful 3 weeks in the village of Vias. This property is ideally located in the village centre such that you could walk around the corner to buy groceries, bread from local shops or a sit down meal at one of the excellent restaurants in the centre Ville. We cycled to the beach every day which is perfect for our kind of holiday. The beach is not over crowded but they are beach side facilities should you need, food, drinks or toilets. There are also a number of water sport machines etc for hire plus the usual banana boat and rubber rings. Referring back to the property it is possible to cook a decent meal and stay in of an evening with the facilities and utensils available, however in the summer the rooms do get a little warm even in the evening, so we chose to dine out most nights and the local restaurants did not let us down. Also I should mention that every Wednesday and Saturday there is a local market held close by that takes over the area and is very well attended. Its good and worth taking the time to stroll around at your leisure. It is not possible to park adjacent to the property although there is vehicle access allowed to unload your car etc, however all parking in the village is free and we found a nice safe parking spot close by which we used for all of the 3 weeks without any problems. The property is also close to the canal du midi (20 mins walk or 5 mins cycle ride) where you can cycle along the footpaths or hire a small motor boat and cruise for one hour or for a day. Overall a great little property that met our expectations and more (great wifi) and we would recommend this to friends and family. (ps Jeff the owner was great and helped us settle in and was always available for advice etc)

Great stay

  • 4 of 5

Had a week stay in this great little place. Jeff the owner was really helpful. All mode cons. Right in the centre of town near all shops and restaurants and bars. First night we arrived there was Miss Vias 2015 being held. We has a car and had no trouble parking. Lots to do in the area. Worth a visit.

restful retreat

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this house for about a month and had a wonderful time in Vias. Jeff has taken photoes of the house which are accurate and he was a generous and transparent person to deal with. The house had a good kitchen with a washing machine and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was perfectly clean and the whole house was pristine. Our favourite place was on the top floor where we watched TV and played cards. There is no outside area but we just took our wine and cheese around the corner in the square. We bought all of our food at the local butcher and vege market and supermarket which was all about 50 metres away. Most days we would walk to the beach - a long walk of nearly 3 km- but worth it. Or we went to other places on the local bus- Penzanas is a must and Agde was interesting. Dining out was mainly at L'Amadines for dinner and opposite there at the ice cream place for cafe. We went to the old restaurant around the corner once and thought it was fabulous and well priced. There is a surprising amount of things to see and do in this quaint little village and we have made some friends for life there. The mayor of the village is keen to put Vias on the map as a tourist destination and I recommend this house to stay in.

Great base for exploring SW France!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in Vias. The description and pictures of the house lived up to expectations and we were not disappointed. The house was clean, recently renovated and nicely decorated.

We received a very friendly and professional service from the owner, Jeff, and he made the booking process and arrival at the house very easy.

There are a number of good restaurants/bars very close to the house, great for when you want to leave the car behind. It provided us with a good base for day trips around South West France, including Montpellier, Carcasonne, Agde, Sete and Coullioure.

We would definitely recommend the house and the area.

Wonderful house in a quaint little town

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for two months in April-May 2013 and had a great stay. The property was very clean upon arrival, and the owner went out of his way to make sure that we had everything we needed for our visit there. The property is well located, within walking distance of two supermarkets, the beach, the Canal du Midi, and numerous cafes and restaurants in town. Buying fresh fruit and vegetables at the market and cooking at home was fantastic, and great value for money. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking to spend time in the south of France. Five stars!

Lovely little gem

  • 5 of 5

A lovely little village house which has been well restored by the owner. The property was very clean and well maintained. A lot of thought had been given to the facilities available and we were pleased to find everything we needed, particularly everyday items not always included with holiday rentals e.g. plenty of toilet rolls, washing powder, uk/continental plug adaptors, beach towels, mats and sunshade and a bottle of wine in the fridge! A perfect little house in a lovely old village.

Surrounded by vineyards, Vias is a circulade (round fortified village), and retains one of its ancient gates of volcanic stone from the 12th century. The melodic bells of the fortified church of St. Jean Baptiste (1394-1424) ring out over Vias, its streets lined with colorful homes, many adorned with carved Italianate doorways of black volcanic stone.

Every Wednesday morning from April to September, and on Saturdays all year, the heart of Vias bustles with market stalls brimming with local and traditional products. Just steps from the house are all the essential amenities, including a grocery store, butcher, fishmonger, bakery, pharmacist, post office, and Vias' own wine cave co-operative providing excellent reds, roses, and muscats at extremely reasonable prices. The centre of Vias is full of bars the and restaurants and there is often live music , festivals and dancing in the summer months including the jazz festival and bastille day on 14 july there is a great atmosphere all summer long in vias and all this is on doorstep of your holiday home also there is a amusement park not far from the house

Vias Plage is one of the best beaches along the Languedoc Coast and is suitable for young children, with its shallow shore and warm waters.

The historic Canal du Midi, constructed to connect the Mediterranean to the Atlantic in the 1600's and now a World Heritage Site, crosses the commune of Vias for a length of 5 kilometres. The shaded canal offers holiday delights, whether from a hired boat, or a walk or bicycle ride along its towpaths.
