We were looking for a peaceful long weekend for the three of us, including our disabled son. Overall the cottage was great - it had all the facilities that we needed, was warm and quiet; we hardly heard anything of the other guests staying there. The ginger snap biscuits were a welcome surprise on arrival!
We visited Scarborough, Whitby and York - all easily accessible with some stunning drives over the Moors and would happily go back to explore everything else that is around.
The dedicated disabled parking made life much easier for someone with limited mobility and the cottage was fairly easy for our son to get around. The stairs in the cottage were quite easy for him but bathing was more of a challenge. The controls to the shower aren't reachable unless you actually stand in the bath - not great if you're clothed and trying to help someone else.
Overall though a great location and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a base ot explore all that North Yorks has to offer.
Really beautiful and peaceful location and good for getting to everywhere.
The best part was the animals, our 8 year old loved seeing the Alpacas, the Sheep with their Lambs, the Horse and of course the Chickens which we visited every day for fresh eggs for breakfast! ... she cried this morning when she had to say goodbye to the Horse.
The only small downside was that the double bed was really hard, I can normally take any bed but this one was too hard for me and was giving me a bad back, we had to swap with my Daughter and have the twin beds- at least she was happy as it meant she had a double to herself!!
We would definitely visit again but maybe this time ask which of the cottages had the softest bed? maybe we would have to keep visiting like Goldilocks until we got the one that was just right😀
Upon our arrival the heating was on , milk and everything needed to make that first cup of tea , including a lemon drizzle cake . The cottage is well decorated and the fixtures and fittings are of a high standard , including the white bed linen and fluffy towels . The views from the windows are simply breath taking . We have used owners direct several times but Sproxton holiday cottages are the best to date --- we highly recommend these cottages as a peaceful and tranquil place for a break away to Yorkshire .
Just arrived back from a lovely stay at Bilsdale Cottage. Our children enjoyed being near the hens, sheep and alpacas! And so did Louie (the dog) Brilliant location 5 minutes from Helmsley and we managed to visit Castle Howard, Hutton Le Hole, Lastingham and Pickering! Even got to Roseberry topping and Guisborough before heading home. The location is perfect and we will be back again to stay. Very tasty homemade cake was a nice touch for our arrival. Many thanks 😊
We stayed here for the first time for a mid-week break mid January to coincide with my birthday. So glad my wife found this whilst researching affordable dog friendly cottages in the Helmsley area, as our small Cavalier King Charles comes everywhere with us. We never got to meet the new owner Lydia but her communications were welcomingly helpful and accurate and she was very flexible. I did meet her charming husband on early morning dog walks.
We found Bilsdale well presented, well equipped, clean and comfortable. Ideal for the two (+ 1) of us. It even has the unexpected bonus of a hip bath under the shower.
It was a nice touch by the owner to leave a cake for us upon arrival.
The useful instructions, and local area information, were very welcome too.
We have already recommended Sproxton Hall Cottages to our friends on the strength of this one visit, and would gladly return.
Thank you Lydia (and Mr Scott?).
We stayed at Bilsdale Cottage for a short break at the end of the school holidays with my partner and two children. I can't speak highly enough of the accommodation. Not only is it lovely, clean and comfortable but the surroundings are first class. Our children had such fun feeding the sheep and chickens and searching for eggs. Gill makes you feel very welcome and we booked to go back straight away. There is lots to do in the local area - check out the International Centre for Birds of Prey and 'The Feathers' in Helmsley.
Everyone we spoke to staying in the other cottages were return visitors which says a lot for the standard Sproxton Hall Cottages offer. I would recommend to friends and family without hesitation.
