50 Minutes Drive From Pescara Airport, and 25 Minutes Drive To Magnificent Mountain Scenery

This property is located just outside a village called Villa Cupoli in Abruzzo, Italy. Villa Cupoli is a small Italian town which benefits from one of the best family run restaurants in the area (Osteria Villa Cupoli, a member of the ‘Slow Food’ organization). There is also a bar and two other restaurants. The nearby village of Farindola, a typical Italian village which clings to the side of a hill also has other bars and restaurants to choose from as well as a number of small shops selling groceries and provisions, bread, milk, meat and vegetables etc. Villa Cupoli is about 50 minutes drive from the main Abruzzo airport in Pescara and about 20 minutes from larger towns such as Penne. The surrounding valley and mountains provide stunning scenery and places such as L’Aquila, Atri, Rocca Calascio and Santo Stefano di Sessanio are all within easy reach and well worth visiting. A sat-nav is recommended for total enjoyment of all that Abruzzo has to offer.

About John Duckett

We are a British family who have visited different parts of Italy over the years and decided we should buy a house here. We were delighted to find Casa Barricello in 2008. It is an ancient farm house which had been beautifully restored in a very sympathetic style by local workmen using traditional materials. We love coming here for the beauty of the scenery, the character of the countryside and the hospitality of the locals. The mountains are stunning all year round, whether snow-capped in winter and spring or stark and clear in the summer and autumn. It is a pleasure to be able to share this amazing environment with visitors to the house, and we get wonderful feedback on the experiences of our guests

Why John Duckett chose Pescara

We were looking for a property which had character and for a location which had some privacy and separation from surrounding properties, without being completely isolated. The house met our needs exactly. Since purchasing it, we have redecorated, installed the swimming pool and renovated the garden to complete the experience. The house has terraces with views on all sides and a large area with a pergola to provide cover for eating out when the sun is strong during the day in the summer.

What makes this villa unique

The house is in a secluded position, set in a valley on its own hilltop with surrounding fields which shelve to the stream at the bottom of the valley. Our nearest neighbours are about 100m away. The house has stunning views of the Gran Sasso mountains on one side and looks out over the valleys towards the coast on the other. The local bakery is a five minute walk away, while Villa Cupoli, which has two restaurants, a bar and small store is within a couple of minutes drive. Fuller shopping facilities are available at the mountain town of Farindola (6 minutes by car) or the major local town of Penne (15 minutes). The house is very comfortable with a mix of traditional architecture and features and contemporary fittings and modern facilities. It is on the edge of the Gran Sasso National Park

Notes on accommodation: Main house accommodates up to 6 people, The annexe can be hired at extra cost to increase accommodation to 8 people. Separate shower room in the annexe. Outside: 4 ha of land among olive trees. Large lawn area and flower beds. 2 quiet patio areas with tables and chairs from kitchen and lounge. Large al fresco patio with table and chairs for 8+ people. Barbecue area. Private 12x5m pool which has an automatic salt chlorination system installed and therefore requires no chemicals. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are provided. Cleaning is normally done at 10:00 am on the normal change-over day (usually Saturday). Mid-week rentals are available upon request Other: Sitting room with 2-seater sofa and easy chair. CD player and a selection of pre-recorded CDs.

Fees No additional mandatory fees

Booking Notes:
A booking deposit of £500 is required. Full payment of the balance plus a refundable security deposit is then required at least 8 weeks (56 days) prior to the rental period. An extra £150 is required for use of the annexe for 8 people

Changeover Day:
Bookings are normally made Saturday to Saturday, 3:00pm to 10:00am, but mid-week rentals are acceptable. The Villa is cleaned on Saturday mornings at 10:00am (usual change-over day)

Notes on prices:
For parties of 8 people, it is necessary to book the annexe, for which an additional £150 per week is required.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
