This beautiful 4 bedroom residence is situated in Gorta Dubha (Gortadoo) on the Dingle Peninsula, 12 miles from Dingle Town, 2 miles from the beautiful village of Ballyferriter and 5 minutes walk from sandy Béal Bán beach. In the heart of the West Kerry Gaeltacht (Irish Speaking) area, the house boasts panoramic views of Smerwick Harbour, Mount Brandon (Ireland’s second highest mountain) and the Three Sisters (peaks). It is a 3 minute drive to the breathtaking Dingle Links (Ceann Sibéal) 18 hole Golf Course and is within easy reach of many renowned gourmet restaurants and live traditional music Irish pubs and bars. On its own plot of land with mature gardens front and rear, the house is beautifully designed and furnished, with timber flooring throughout, under floor heating and wood burning stove, sun lounge, patio and even its very own piano! Ideal for exploring the Dingle Peninsula, hill walking, watersports, fishing and boat trips to Skelligs and Blasket Islands.
I am a retired accountant living in Ardmore, County Waterford with my wife and family. My wife is a working artist and we run a successful Are Gallery in Ardmore. We are very keen on music and both ourselves and all the children also play / sing. We find the Kerry area ideal for playing music at home and also for playing in the many local pubs and bars.
Don purchased this house in 1999
We love mountains, sea and beautiful scenery and even though Ardmore and County Waterford boast some of the very best, the rugged, breath taking features of West Kerry are always a welcome change. We have always found the relaxed and stress-free atmosphere of Gorta Dubha unique and never tire of its invitation to relax and unwind. Our children likewise, for their own reasons (golf, swimming, surfing, music sessions and meeting Kerry friends) have embraced the area and at this stage are almost more hooked on the area than we are.
The peace and quiet is wonderful and with the golf course literally a ten minute walk up the road, the children often head off on their own to the practice ground or the main golf course, for a few shots.
Whwn the family were younger, the garden was perfect because once we closed the front gate, there was no way out and they could pay there in perfect safety for hours. Likewise, when they got older, they all learned to cycle here and could cycle down to the beach in two minutes.
February 2013 - I stayed in your lovely home last weekend for the Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh Festival, and I ... absolutely love the stove you have in the siting room.
