Barbreck Cottage is on the south side of Campbeltown Loch. It is conveniently placed close (1 miles) to the centre of Campbeltown, but has uninterrupted views over the water towards Davaar Island and Arran. There is direct access from the house to walks on Beinn Ghuilean - which overlooks Campbeltown - and spectacular coastal scenery is only a short drive away. The house was refurbished and extended in 2003. The sitting room, dining room, kitchen and one of the bedrooms look over the sea. Barbreck Cottage sits in a walled garden.

About the Owner

My grandmother bought Barbreck Cottage in 1921, so it has been in the family almost a hundred years. I spent all my childhood holidays here. In 2003 I modernised and extended the property to make it a comfortable modern house.

Perfect Cottage

We have just returned to Shropshire after a truly wonderful week in Kintyre. Barbreck Cottage is delightful: spacious, clean, very well-equipped and with breath-taking views of Campbeltown Loch, Davaar Island and towards Arran. There is ample room and the cottage is warm and cosy. Sitting around the open fire in the evening was just lovely. Birds galore and the nightly hoot of owls and seeing so many different sea birds was wonderful. Of particular note is the excellent selection of books at Barbreck - local history, literary classics and so much more. It was a perfect library to accompany our holiday. We are already planning our next visit.

Home from Home

Cannot recommend highly enough. from the moment we walked up the path, lawn was cut and tidy, met by the keyholder who was lovely, polite and helpful to opening the door and finding everything you need from clean rooms, well fitted out kitchen, relaxed lounge and dining areas and importantly with teenage kids -2 bathrooms avoiding all the usual fighting for access.

Views to keep you busy with a variety of shipping in and out of the loch, birds plummeting the depths for fish.

Cottage located on the quiet south side of Campbeltown Loch with ease of access to Machrihanish beach and south to the Mull of Kintyre and Southend.

Walking distance to COOP and Tesco for any shopping needs and some interesting local shops within the town itself.

Off-road parking for 2 cars although the entrance is a bit tight and shed storage for our bikes etc.

But what makes this cottage stand out is the little things are covered from corkscrew to binoculars, letting you just get on with the holiday.

Home away from home

What a fabulous cottage! My husband and I and our 2 young children (age 1 and 2) spent 3 nights at Barbreck cottage while visiting family at the start of June. we'll certainly be back. The cottage is very spacious and wonderfully bright with lots of natural sunlight and fantastic views over Campbeltown loch to Davaar Island. The oil fired heating is amazing and the cottage is cosy and warm. The large master bedroom is at the front on the right. It has plenty of hanging and drawer space and even a little jewellery box. The bed is king size and very comfy. My only niggle is the curtains don't have black out lining and so sunlight floods into the room in the morning. The 2nd (double) and 3rd (twin) bedrooms are at the back, away from the living areas which suited us very well as the children were able to sleep in peace when we had the family round. The bedrooms are a decent size again with plenty of hanging and drawer space. There is black out lining on the curtains and so the children slept very easily in their travel cots. Beyond these bedrooms are 2 bathrooms, 1 with shower and 1 with bath (towels provided). between the 2 bathrooms is a laundry area with washing machine and tumble drier. The bright kitchen is at the front of the house to the left. It has beautiful granite work tops and is extremely well stocked including large electric hob with double oven, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher (tablets provided), lots of cupboards and lots of crockery, utensils, glasses, pots and all cleaning products including fairy liquid, wash cloths and tea towels. A table and 4 chairs are also in the kitchen. The kitchen leads to a dining room with a French polished table (seats 6) and matching sideboard, again very well stocked with table cloths, mats, coasters, teaset etc. the dining room is partly open plan into a spacious lounge with large sofa, armchair and occasional chairs, wooden coffee table, fireplace for a real fire (coal and logs provided) 2 well stocked bookcases with lots of local history books, recent novels, biographies etc and a selection of board games. There is a large flat screen TV with free view channels and some DVDs. The Wireless broadband router in the lounge has a decent speed at that end of the house. Mobile reception is patchy so the complimentary land line is useful for takeaways and contacting local family. The hall cupboard stocks travelling rug, waterproof ground sheet, binoculars and coat rack. It really is a home away from home!

Relaxing holiday

Just back once again from Barbreck Cottage And again we have had a lovely time with our friends and visiting relatives .This cottage is really lovely in a great location , we'll equipped and beautifully presented throughout . The only small criticism I would make is the seating in the lounge area could do with a replacement . We certainly will be using this lovely cottage again .

Just returned from this lovely cottage with the most wonderful view of Campbeltown Loch. This truly is a lovely property well stocked with everything you need The bedrooms bathrooms and shower rooms are tastefully decorated and dining room lounge and kitchen are perfect .We will certainly return again next year .
